The expression on Marius's face when he saw the direct wired power cable was very familiar... I had to have my house completely rewired when I bought it and the electrician team had that expression more than once. I heard a lot of "Hey, you gotta see this!" and "Oh my god!" which are not things you want to hear from your electricians! 😂 Glad to know Marius has conquered the dangers in your house!

Regarding electrical. I have seen so much horrific bodgery done by "pro" "electricians" that i consider the legal situation in Germany criminal. I.E. Germany does not have a National Electrical Code and uses a weird, almost corrupt system of semi official rules set up by trade associations, the local power companies and various labor safety bodies etc. to govern electrical safety. As a result only a Master Electrician may do electrical independently but nobody will ever check (in your normal home situation) if it is actually done right. Technically you can also do it yourself, since there is no national law, you are just putting yourself up for undue liability and maybe break of civilian contract with the power company, but not law. A system with a National Code and inspectors where you can legally DIY if it passes and professionals will be checked on more often would be WAY better.

Draw a diagonal line across each box on the to do list and when you start a project colour in half the box. Than, when you finish the job, colour in the other half. It makes it easy to see where you are in the list without having to check both ends of the words. This massive time saving idea will pay for itself in, oooh just a few weeks, I'm sure.
@michaelbonet9062

The fuse box looks good so far, but you should definitely get some RCD (Fehlerstromschutzschalter) added (by a professional of course). These are mandatory in modern electrical installations and can prevent some kinds of fire hazards and save you from getting an electric shock. I really like that your videos keep getting better and the become more personally. It was nice to watch. Have fun all of you and be safe! ;)
@TristanJCumpole
@TristanJCumpole 2 года назад
I would presume that this is what Marius has been drafted in for. Perhaps the RCD will be added when the building is rewired and circuits specified.
@charlotteice5704
@charlotteice5704 2 года назад
Some additional info about the RCD for anyone interested: the normal fuses (Leitungsschutzschalter) are, as their German name implies, only there to protect the cables (at least as far as direct protection goes): they protect from short circuits and overcurrent, basically anything that could cause the cable to heat up too much and could cause a fire. The RCD on the other hand is meant to protect the user as it detects when there is current flowing to ground, indicating a fault, and stops this current before the human can become the easier path for it. Ground rods and all that exist in the form that they do in order for them to become the easiest path for current to flow, but it's always possible for at least some of that current to flow through the human body. That is, unless there is an RCD, which will shut off the current in that case.

We have had 4 houses with basements or cellars (unfinished / dirt floor). All of them had the electric box in the basement. If our current house ever has to have the wiring redone, I will insist that the box be located on the first living floor. When do you need to go to the box? Typically it is when something has tripped a breaker and some of the power is off. When the power is off, usually some of the lights are also off. That makes going to the basement more dangerous - particularly when you are old. If you can find a convenient location in your house, consider having the electric access above the basement. Note that this also keeps it above the dampest part of most houses. One of our homes when we bought it had small streams of water flowing across the dirt floor during the wet season. Glad to see that you have an electrician on the team.

I wish my tools were so organized. Important to remember, make sure to plan out the big inflexible placements so that smaller more flexible placements, can avoid them and be close enough to supply them where needed. Plan heating/cooling, then water/sewer, then electric. Then build them in reverse; electric first, then water/sewer, then heating/cooling. Saves extra work.

Hei Laura! Try hunting down a mechanical pencil by Pilot called, "The Shaker". I've been using these for over ten years for marking up....when the lead breaks or needs lengthening, shaking the pencil advances the lead rather than clicking the back of the pencil. This reduces distraction and keeps the marking tool you're holding in place.

Just because you guys seem like you want to be awesome at English: "Lighting" was actually correct which laura said but changed to "light(n)ing" which is the word for the strikes you get in a storm. I'm so jealous! Thanks for sharing this process with us. I have 120 year old house that is in very bad repair like yours. But I don't have the money to be able to fix it all at once. Which is so frustrating... because it is cheaper to fix it all at once than it is to do it a little at a time lol. Things always work out like that. But yeah, it would be much easier to take it to the bones and repair from there... however that isn't possible and I'm trying to do what I can with very little money and while disabled and sometimes I just want to give up. But watching you tackle this without all the knowledge and just an able body and attitude is cool and inspiring... glad you found some people to work with. Can't wait to see more :)

We were lucky when we removed our electric night storage heating. Ours did not have asbestos in it but mineral fiber insulation (made from slag). The stones in the heater are very nice to build a BBQ since they retain heat very good and are very heat resistant. We sometimes used the BBQ for forging steel bars and even melted copper in it. We had to tore it down when out garden was remodeled. Most recycling placed demand a premium when handling these stones since they are often contaminated by asbestos.
