Hey, crochet tip I got from my grandmother. To get it to keep its shape, instead of ironing it, stretch and pin it to a foam board or something and spray it with some starch water. How much starch in the water determines how firm it'll be.

I'm a teen transmasc who's had a lot of burn out over this summer, I started the school year and found your shorts about your korok cosplay, I had recently started playing through zelda on my gameboy color, and it caught my interest, so I stuck around. I love the way you make your cosplays, the attention to detail, never hitting deadlines, vaguely historical influence on some, the passion you put into them, your editing style, it's all so great. It was also really cool to see a fellow trans masc that was into sewing and crafting in the same ways I am, I've been on the sewing side of youtube for a while now, but your content is relatable in such an awesome way. I found myself with a lot of time this past september, I've been handling school a lot better than in past years. I've always been into costuming for halloween, and as a kid I got upset because I didn't have the skill level it took to make cosplays like this from scratch. But I've been building up sewing skills, and crafting skills, so I decided to give it a shot this year. for halloween I'm making a cosplay of the just dance character for video killed the radio star, by the Buggles. It's turning out amazing, I have geniuenly never loved a project as much as this one, I made the tv head out of peper mache, and I thrifted a pink button up and green blazer (I would have sewn them, but alas, I don't have that skill level, and would not have finished on time for halloween) I still need to tailor the blazer and pants, do all the little accessories, and them I'm going to sew a white tie from scratch. Bonus points, it glows in the dark! I can't wait to see it finished, and to be honest your videos have really gotten me inspired to start, and follow through. you're quickly becomming my favorite youtuber, and I can't wait to see my cosplays and future crafting endevours enfold alongside yours. Love, from canada

New here, elder millennial, freshly realized ace NB, and craft starved mother of one. Idk what else to tell you but just... remember that the reason you 'blew up' so to speak is because being genuine resonates with people. Or.. at least.. with your kind of people. Looking forward to watching your journey! Much love 💚

I'm a 33yrs old cosplayer named Daniela...she/her/they/them. Don't have friends, so I watch cosy creators such as yourself. You are beautiful. And have my heart completely. As soon as I heard you gave crochet a go. Now for crochet I'm intermediate. Have a Mimikyu head to toe cosplay. And now working on Kinomoto magical girl transformation (first outfit) from Cardcaptors Sakura. This cosplay involves crocheting everything from the dress, petticoat, bloomers, knew high socks, gloves, infinite amount of bows, the magical staff, wings and even leaning to make shoes completely crocheted. In no way am I confident in my appearancr, craftsmanship and far from being noticed as a good cosplayer. I hope to one day be as amazing as you are. Congratulations with becoming Emily.

Im a crocheter and a kandi maker so seeing you start to crochet and use the star beads that have been in some of my favorite bracelets ive made was so cool. Im an aspiring crafter and seeing how you are able to just sew and understand patterns and bust out crazy seam finishes is so like out of the world to me. that seeing you start crochet was kinda like a moment where i realized that just as your skill is not limited to sewing i dont have to limit my skill away from sewing.

This cosplay really was worth the wait, I didn’t even notice 50 minutes slipped by while I was watching, I thought this video was like 15 minutes. I don’t do much cosplay but I do make fursuits, your meticulous attention to detail and patience is admirable, that’s my main hold-up during the creative process, I can’t help but want to rush past the boring bits. I’ll be sure to stick around for more long-form videos!

Hi Lizard! Im a little high right now but I just wanted to let you know how much you mean to me. I’ve been using you as a comforting presence while I craft for months and Im so excited that you’re getting what you deserve. As another enby sewist, you inspire and encourage me so much. You talking about girl cosplay as drag is actually what started a change in how I thought about cosplay, and now I’m actively working on a Jessica Rabbit cosplay. 🖤🖤

I randomly get cosplay/sewing content recommended by youtube every once in a while, and I often click for chill vibes while im playing games or doing chores, without having that big of an interest in whatever I'm watching. This video was different. Ten minutes in I put my switch aside, sat up and found myself glued to the screen. I've never seen you before but from first impressions I thought you were super cool, interesting and fun, and the way you talked about your process was inspiring. I used to do some very base level sewing in elementary school like many people, and suddenly I looked back on that and remembered how fun it was to be able to make something with my hands and know that despite imperfections and mistakes, it was my work and that was incredible in itself. My sister was always the arts and crafts person while I was the kid with pen and paper, and because that's always what I've been, I'm scared of trying new ways to be creative. Writing falls into my lap, while drawing or playing piano or crocheting are hard and frustrating. But this literally made me feel like a seven year old again, watching my teacher show off the demo plushie we were going to sow and saying, "You can do this. It'll be ugly and a mess and you might get upset, but in the end, with enough time, and dedication, you can make this happen." I'm blabbering a lot despite knowing that nobody might read this. But it doesn't matter because I feel like I just have to tell you how bubbly and excited and inspired this video made me feel. I haven't felt like trying something new in a long time, but now I think I wouldn't be scared to jump in the cold water and make mistakes and learn a new skill just for the sake of enjoying it, not for recognition but because I want to know that I did that, I could do that. The few tidbits about you being transmasc and how you prefer to express yourself were also really interesting to me as someone who identifies as agender. Genuinely I think you are an inspiring person and I hope you continue enjoying what you do and gain the recognition you deserve!

I love learning about sewing. I make costumes if my own characters, mostly for LARP. Your Shorts came up first, but I really prefer longer videos, so I started watching those. But then I saw the Emily Short! I LOVE Stardew Valley and Emily was my first spouse in the game. I adore her bright personality and her enthusiasm for her hobbies. So I was so happy to see an Emily cosplay. Thank you for the longer video about the process. I am glad you had fun learning crochet! I like it much more than knitting, though I can do both.

ever since youtube reccomended me one of your shorts working on this cosplay, i've been so invested in it. i immediately fell in love with your content - your creativity and talent in craft and art alongside your humour and reliability. only recently have i got into stardew valley after buying it with birthday money in july but i also immediately fell in love with the game and have been mass consuming sdv media since. when i first saw this cosplay, i immediately shared it with my friends who also play stardew and were the ones who recommended it to me. i just needed everyone to see it because it was incredible. your portrayal of emily is so amazing and i love the thought and love clearly put into the design and cosplay itself. as a creative myself, that really connected with me. i have so many (very positive and good and excited) thoughts and feelings about this video and project that I'm not entirely sure how to put them into words in a way that makes sense but i feel the need to at least try really hard, like you did with this project. the dress. emily is absolutely a dress girlie for sure. she would love the flowey ness off skirts and you absolutely had that element in the sundress. also the layering of a collared shirt under it reflects her portrait with the collared shirt, as well as her sprite which looks like it's a layered dress over a shirt to me as well (a lot of portraits and sprites of characters vary and i love how you combined both of these elements). the picnic vibe really works in my opinion as well. overall, you really managed to capture all of emily's unique elements of her design and character/personality in your cosplay. the accessories. admittedly, this is my favourite part of the cosplay and what really cements emily's character into it, even more than the elements in the dress. firstly, the docs? totally emily! that 100% clicks like a puzzle piece in my mind. i love the blue socks with all the other colours in the outfit, matching with her hair and the earrings and bringing out contrast with the reds and yellows (colour theory my beloved). the measuring tape as an accessory is soo cute and i feel like emily totally would. it just works, with her character loving to sew and also her character being a little weird, a little quirky, a little random and a little manic pixie dream girl. its quirky and its cute and it works really well. overall, the clunkiness and maximallism in the accessories and jewellery is so perfect to me. it feels exactly like emily's character to have that aesthetic and vibe with her appearance. i love how much thought went behind each accessory, like with the earrings being joja cola and blueberries being a summer crop in sdv, or the star necklace representing starfruit - also a summer crop - as well as the rainbow bracelet representing the trippy imagery in her interprative dance (and also her being gay with i 100% agree with. she's totally a lesbian in my opinion, but at the very least, she is sapphic as hell). the parrot may be on the nose a bit but its still super cute and fits her well! the makeup!!! i LOVE the makeup. once again, the maximallism is totally emily. she is incredibly artsy, i feel like she would love experimenting with makeup and doing colourful works of art on her face. she is absolutely that extra and we love her for it! it turned out amazing too you did awesome with it!! overall, this cosplay is incredible and i love every single bit of it, including hearing the process of it all. like i mentioned before, i'm also a creative but i'm in the field of more traditional arts with drawing and painting (mainly digitally but still relatively traditional). i've always found sewing really stressful but i admire the work that goes into it so much and i love seeing the progress of it all. i wish i could get into sewing but i've decided it's not my thing, as much as i wish it could be. but this video still really inspired me and my artistic mind even so - i feel inclined to draw your version of emily right now lol but also you talking about your process and stuff was incredibly relatable and validating. i really appreciate you going into the emotional side of the project here as well because i think a lot of us needed that motivation and inspiration to keep on going. my comment's already getting quite long so I'll just do a quick introduction since i plan to stick around this channel now. my name's edyn and i'm also nonbinary (they/them)!! it's always really cool to follow more enby creators! as said before, i'm an artist who mainly specialises in cartoon styles and inspired by manga/anime art, but i also do more traditional realism pieces from time to time (mainly for school). i love character design and so i also love watching cosplay channels and general sewing/fashion/fibre crafts channels because of that, so this video was also inspiring for that reason! to finally end this comment off, great video! incredibly well-made and obviously thought out. as other comments have already said, the editing is great quality and the pacing is really good. i love all the little stardew valley sound effects you used too :D

Hi, Lizard! I’ve been watching your channel since posting the iconic Korok build. The way you hand attached alllll those little bark pieces to the headpiece was so incredible to me and 100% the approach I would have taken, so I knew I had to keep following all your stuff. My current project is Princess Nausicaä from the manga/Ghibli film, as my favorite costumes to make are ones that look very simple in 2D animation but have so much potential for fun fabrics/patterning in our 3D world. My Cosplay Confidence feat of the month will be hand-felting her turquoise gloves, hat, and greaves- never done it, but super excited to try!

I really loved this video. I know basically nothing about cosplay, so it's fascinating to watch your videos and see what all goes into doing it at such a high level. Especially as someone who plays significantly too much Stardew Valley, this one was a particular delight. I've actually been in a little bit of a burnout period from throwing myself too much at doing speedruns and challenge runs in Stardew, so that particular lens of this build through your own burnout helped me think through some of that. So, uh, thanks!

Hi Lizard! I'm a beginner cosplayer and seamstress. I've been following you since the beginning, I think. I find the quality and creativity of your work really inspiring, and your videos always bring good vibes. I laughed when I got to the crochet part of this video because I recently taught myself how to crochet by watching RU-vid too (although maybe I had an advantage over you because I've been knitting for 15+ years). I definitely have that 'how hard can it be?' attitude, but I love that it lets me explore so many hobbies and always be learning new things. I love how your Emily cosplay turned out. The way it came together with all the accessories and the make-up is really cute. While I haven't played Stardew Valley (I definitely want to now), the way you described Emily, it seems like you captured her quirky vibe perfectly!

I cosplayed as a teen and in my early 20s, and am now wanting to get back into as I creep towards 26. I wanna get weird with it though! I’ve always been drawn towards alternate designs of characters, and I have a couple favorite little guys in the back of my mind that I’d like to try reimagining. My wife used to be a costumer for theatre and local drag artists, and they generously offered to help me with the sewing side when the time comes. Looking forward to following your cosplay exploits as I hopefully get up to my own!

Hello, new here! To answer your question at the end: I'm a cross stitcher, who helped beta test Stardew Valley game and wrote the Stardew Valley Cross Stitch Guide. Like you, I love branching out into new crafts and started learning to sew 2 years ago, picked up a crochet hook for the first time this year. I can only assume the combination of my recent sewing/crochet tutorials and my general stardew/cozy game obsession is what led the algorithm to show me your video. :) I loved all the love you put into this project and the little details that truly make it a passion project. Thanks so much for sharing that with us!

oooohhhh my goodness this build turned out SO GOOD!!! Perfectly Emily. I've been watching your tiktoks for over a year now but I just found your youtube channel in august and have been watching all of your longer form content since then, and I really enjoy it! You have such interesting commentary and watching the very precise way you create things is so inspiring. Absolutely fantastic work Lizard!!

As someone who was actively crocheting while I watched this video seeing you learn how to do the basics for the first time was absolutely heartwarming. You did such a fantastic job, and you will get better!!! Congrats on the lovely cosplay, she looks wonderful 😊

That discussion of making was what I needed today - thank you. I criticize myself for having too many hobbies and always wanting to start a new one. But doing something new is how I get my mojo back, whether it’s at my job or for creating. This cosplay is so cool! Love all the little details you put in. Also, I’ve been crocheting on and off for 30 years and that bandanna came out so even and crisp. Excellent work.

Hi! I love longer-form videos, even though I know they're a lot more work. Congrats on 100k! It's great seeing other enbies out there doing cosplay. As a transmasc myself, I have a lot of feelings around being drawn to pretty outfit designs, but at the same time, not wanting to be perceived as feminine... Sometimes it feels impossible. Your 'lavender petticoat + gender things' video resonated with me a lot. I've admired cosplayers for years now, but never jumped in ... until now! Thanks to you and SarahSpaceman's videos, I finally worked up the guts. I've got a shirt and a half on my sewing table and tickets to a convention this year. Thanks!

I'm in my crochet phase right now, and I'm pretty well experienced. The bandana pattern you picked looks a bit complicated for someone who has never touched crochet before, but honestly, choosing something way above your skill level is such a mood lol. You would have had a way easier time with a granny stitch bandana, but the pattern you chose is really pretty! You got to learn a bunch of stitches at once too, and while that makes it harder it also means you picked up a bunch of different techniques at once.

I love how it turned out! I came across your channel from shorts of your Korok cosplay and now have watched all your full-length videos. I’ve cosplayed before but have never been great at sewing, but your videos inspired me to break out my sewing machine for a D&D ren faire cosplay! I was proud of how it turned out despite all the sewing crimes included. Looking forward to watching more of your stuff!

"This isn't just a thing, right? This isn't a thing. This is time, it's time, which is all that any of us have. When you pour it into something like this, what an act of giving, what a moment of love." Lizard I didn't come here to get absolutely destroyed by Brennan Lee Mulligan, this is a cosplay video and I _am_ crying. (So many emotions, heart very full of love 😭) (And as for the "why am I here?" question, you've been in my feed since the Korok video, and I always watched your stuff when it came up, so I assumed I was subbed but realized semi-recently that I wasn't and rectified that. I find a lot of joy in watching a costuber who's committed to doing things right the first time, because I try to not cut corners and sometimes watching someone else do it, and be less happy with the result because of it is, not what I want out of my content lol)

I gotta say, as someone who's crocheted for close to 20 years, you have picked out one of my very favorite yarns as your first! I've worked with those exact colors before and recently thrifted a bunch of sugar and creme :3 I just love the way it feels in my fingers, and it's nice to work with something that's not synthetic but so much easier to care for than wool!

I found your shorts on RU-vid, and I'm a huge fan of longer format videos. So when I saw you have routinely long videos, it was an absolute dream!!!! I'm a huge fan of cosplay and want to start doing some myself, I just don't know how to start really. I adore Stardew Valley. I have well over 500 hours in the game, and because of your videos and shorts, I'm going to be starting a new game tonight!!! So thank you for giving me the spark to pick the game up again!!! I love youe content, openness, relatability, and just everything that makes you you!!! Thank you so much for the hours of content and fun!!!!

It's so wonderful to see how much your cozy little corner of the internet has grown!! I comfort-rewatch the entire backlog of longer videos every time a new one comes out and they're always bangers. Watching your videos and streams inspires me to take up crafting again after many many years of being burnt out (I've been playing so much Monster Hunter lately and the armor designs are so tempting but terrifying at the same time). Thank you for the amazing content and a spark of hope that I will be able to do the things I love

I started following you a few months ago for your chaotic crafting energy, how gosh darn GOOD everything you made was, cosplay inspiration/motivation, and that the franchises you picked were all ones I also loved! Watching your videos has definitely motivated me to start working on craft stuff again, and it's just about time to start working on my cosplay for PAX Unplugged, so you can bet I'll be re-watching them to help keep me going! :D

I'm a cosplayer that dropped the hobby and got back into it years later, and you're a huge inspiration and motivator! I'm slowly taking on small projects and learning the basics, and then plan on making a costume to compete in next year. Whenever I feel like I just can't bring myself to wrangle my sewing machine, I put on one of your videos and soon enough I feel that infectious drive to create again.

I eat these process videos for dinner. They're just infinitely charming and I love having them all while I work on my own projects! Though I didn't expect to be geniuenly moved by that surprisingly emotional tail end.

I've been following on insta for years, I distinctly remember eagerly following the construction of pink diamond's bodice for her universe. Back then I was a community college student, now I have my BA and while you were working on this project I was attending an archeology field school in Europe digging in a medieval cemetery! There is something fun and wonderful about watching creators grow over the time I follow them while reflecting on my own growth in that period. When I started following I was big into embroidery but since 2021 crochet a knitting has consumed me. I was knitting on a textured red triangle scarf while watching this! I started crochet on the same tools seen here, lily's sugar and cream classic cotton worsted and a susan bates hook. I have tried a few hooks now and I always go back to susan just for the sharpness of the actual hook bit, love them. Also love that bit about how crafts are time, that's gonna stick with me. One of the wonders of archaeology is thinking about the hands that made the objects that I work with as well as the time. It just makes my head spin and heart sing.

Watching your videos always makes me feel so warm and fuzzy. Burnout has absolutely wrecked me for years. Literal years. I have dozens of unfinished projects that I feel immense guilt over not working on anytime I get the SUDDEN COSPLAY URGE for another costume. Watching you get excited about a SUDDEN COSPLAY URGE and unapologetically take the time you need to accomplish it just makes my heart sing. You are a total delight to watch, and I wish you the most happiness and fulfillment.

It's a weird feeling, I thought you had a few million people a long time ago because your content was always mega high quality. But still, it's really cool that people are recognising your work. Your projects are extremely creative, what in the medium you're cosplaying from, what in the cosplay material, like a concept from a game. Thank you so much for your endeavours. I'm not a cosplayer, but I really appreciate the unusual approach to your work, so your work seriously inspires mine.

i totally resonate with all that you said about cosplay. I recently started a new cosplay (Akechi from Persona 5) and after not making anything for a few months, its like all my creative cosplay juices are flowing again. Ive kinda slowed down progress on it a bit, but i am learning all sorts of new techniques, and working with new materials. And the best part is I'm working closely with a friend that is making another character from the same game, so we can chat about how its going and share in progress pics. anyway, I love how you talk about cosplay, and your approaches to it. It has helped me a lot, and changed how i view cosplay, and i can already feel myself improving. Keep sharing these long videos, i love them!

This finds me in my own con cronch both as a vendor and a cosplay I want to wear. I both relax and find inspiration by watching other people craft-mostly other cosplayers and DND terrain/minis. Recently because of a "big" move and immediately going into my busy vendor session I hadn't gotten to watch many of the longer form videos that have been put out but it was so nice to watch this one. I adore your crafting style and the embellished versions of characters you do. I don't always get to do that in my own corporate but it's a style I love. Keep on making, lizard, be the icon we all need.

I found you with the Pokémon witch costume and I've been so excited to see your stuff pop up on my feed! I've been crocheting while watching this and when you said you were learning how to crochet to make a bandana I literally flailed my project around and was grinning like an idiot! 😂 I loved seeing people's process when making a cosplay and seeing that someone is also learning how to crochet to incorporate it into the costume is just so awesome. I've been crocheting for 6 years now and to see someone learn this craft that has me in a loving chokehold makes my heart so happy. 🥰 I can't wait to see all of the super awesome and creative cosplays you make! 😄💚

I’m one of the people who subbed after seeing one or two of your Emily Shorts. Your craftsmanship and editing skills are impeccable. Hey Lizard! Congrats on 100k! Found your insta last year after you debuted your korok and have been loving your builds and videos since! Cosplay is something I’ve always wanted to do since middle school but due anxious brain, it took me until I was 28 to get over my headtrash and finally start. Since then it’s been a really fun outlet to create the last 3 years. I even managed to make a korok this year and wear it for the dragon con korok march, and it’s honestly my favorite thing I’ve made lmao. Burnout really can be so crushing, so I’m glad you were able to feel refreshed with this project and produce a fantastic video and edit to boot! P.S. as far as D20 - I’m new to the fandom as of this summer but I’ve been injecting it STRAIGHT INTO MY VEINS lmao. I’m convinced they have cemented themselves as the soundtrack to many a project across the community
