I've been cosplaying for 15 years and my fave is turning abstract concepts into obsessively crafted costumes.

not alot into the video yet, but its only plagiarism if your straight up buying the cosplay and claiming you made it (from another cosplay or a company)
I've often said every cosplayer needs a handler because even a basic outfit like... life us so much easier if you have someone helping re-secure layers, help with fasteners, and keep people from touching you. 😂 I did it for my friend who dressed like an orc at a con and I was like... this needs to be more of a thing.

You’re my dream for who I wanted to be if I would’ve continued on my successful trajectory… I don’t know that I would’ve been making these types of outfits. But I’d be cosplaying mid 2000’s outfits I think of when I picture my favorite celebrities or other cartoons. That is my alternate reality. But! I had a thing happened where I believe someone literally stomped out the other timeline I was heading to - and Anyways. I had three kids and had to put my fun sewing to the side. Sad
Its worse to steal work made by someone else in its entirety like I grab one of your cosplays from your storage and i tell people i made it ... But its also bad to copy someones design entirely too especially if its their own original creation... If youre making a 121 recreation of a character then you should be allowed to copy and alot of people care about being completely screen acurate especially if youre recreating from a live action movie or something so copying in those types of cosplay are like what the cosplay is all about... But for some people cosplay is just about having fun and wearing a costume and maybe u dont care who made your outfit or u just wanna dress up a certain way u might buy most or all of the outfit because its not about the making for u... But for the cosplayers that are craftspeople who enter competitions and exhibit their skills as a costume maker then they need to abide by certain rules, professional rules, like as if youre a designer or clothing manufacturer and im sure there are laws out there from the world of textiles and fashion that set down the guidelines for manufacturers and fashion houses on what is allowed and not allowed in regards to plagiarism and maybe for cosplayers more specific rules could be created to help establish a playing field of what u can claim as yours and what people can and cant take from other works ... But even if there were better rules we do see designers in fashion getting ripped off by bigger faceless corporations with very similar but slightly different designs that are clearly copied but legally and technically are not and they legally skirt around the rules to reproduce other peoples work and profit from it... I think that's wrong... it is an issue when theres ethics involved in the manufacturing process and when peoples original work is being plagerised or worse your design is being used to enrich and make money for slavers who run literal sweatshops who only exist because your design has found an audience... I think this kind of issue of plagiarism in cosplay touches on these wider points of plagiarism in design, fabrics, textiles, fashion, clothing in general. The law even allows it to take place to a certain extent and even if its not legal it still takes place and its very tricky for anyone to ever get into any trouble for it and its so tough to police it. Cosplay is an art form and ultimately it will continue to have issues of people stealing, copying and plagerising as many if not all art forms do... I hate to see it happen but i cant see a path to a reasonable solution i think as long as people can do it and cut corners and so on they will and theres this grey area of "being inspired" by something or capturing its "essence" and being "transformative" ... In music u might have made this composition but the music is written by someone else, the lyrics are written by someone else, the sounds were produced by someone else, maybe someone else performed it or contributed their performances to it... Theres very technical ways of determining who did what work and who gets credit i think theres gotta be a way to do the same thing but for cosplay... Thats my 2 cents
I've just finished binge watching all your videos and I'm so inspired to venture beyond just Dia de Los Muertos costumes and look into cosplay. I just purchased a book on how to create costume armor and props with Worbla and craft foam. Wish me luck!!!
DICE ARISUGAWA. I recommend you listen to some of the songs from Hypnosis Mic it started as a audio drama but got really popular and they made it into a terrible anime 😂 but the songs are still SO good.
They dress up like this because why not? Like I like some fancy clothes too but my family claims I look weird. Well... If your house pets are karate bear who can waterbend, literal local deity, rockband made from liard and gorilla, bodybuilder mosquito from another dimension and living dollop of chocolate cream I don't think your clothes are wreid in comparison XD
I don't really play pokemon much, though I love the truly wild fashion design. Talking about truly wild design, Valerie being the fairy type for Kalos honestly slaps. That is the best outfit I've ever seen. Her sleeves are wings? She looks a bit like a fuzzy moth and also like she would kill me with one of those heels??? Very fae energy which is perfect. Incredible. 10/10.
Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of cosplay or the characters involved. As someone who has been learning sewing for costumes for Dia de Los Muertos, your video ended up in my "recommended" area, and I'm here for it. I'm binge watching your videos and not only being mesmerized by your designs, but I'm also realizing how much I have to learn. I've made three costumes for Dia so far, and they turned out pretty good, but you are inspiring me to branch out and move toward cosplay and character costuming. Thank you.
