Saying that it's antithetical for the pokémon movie to have an anti-violence message, is like saying that a martial artist can't be anti-war.

I have a cute story about this movie or better said about that little Pokémon vacation short: When I was a kid I really struggled with reading and did not enjoy it at all. Teachers assumed I had a comprehension/literacy deficiency and constantly commented on it. It really blew out any interest I had in trying. Really discouraged I just let all the books on my shelf gather dust…until this movie came out. I loved Pokémon and loved the movie (I was 7 at the time) and a relative who didn’t know about the reading thing gifted me a literal book version of that short… it was really horrible, with bad quality screenshots to fill space and just…even worse writing, BUT for some reason I decided to try one more time with this because I already knew the story. It was short and knowing what it looked like in motion helped my brain to understand how to visualise words in my brain (well not visualise because I later learned that I have aphantasia, but at least how to make it come to life in my way). This made something click in my brain and from that point onward I devoured books nonstop! I famously read through all childrens books in my local library and they had to order more 😂 And this year I will have my first short story published in an anthology book!

True story, I watched the entirety of Golden Girls with Leigh, their sister, and a bunch of our friends (including the guy who voices a certain green haired shonen protagonist) in their childhood living room, and now I think friendship is TOO POWERFUL! Thank you for being a friend!

As someone who only got a connection with pokemon through the games, its so interesting to get breakdowns of the show/movies and see the different perspectives those gave! As a sidenote, if I had watched more of it, I assume Team Rocket would have made me gay much earlier and saved me a lot of time figuring stuff out...

I think pokémon as a whole did a lot to influence my queerness! I “idolized” (read: crushed on) Flannery when I played Sapphire, I wanted to steal Morty’s gender in Heart Gold, and the Mystery Dungeon games allowed me to exist outside of my gendered body and just be an adventurous pokéscamp! I was a big ghost-type girlie so I am SO stoked to see how this design turns out!! 👻💜

my family had the first pokemon movie on vhs so i have distinct memories of rewinding my favorite parts, and ill be honest, one of them was those eye catches during the vacation short. that clip of the exeggutor and oddish dancing across the screen while screaming their names brought me back lol

I’m the same age as you, but I didn’t watch or play Pokémon growing up. So I’m pretty sure this movie and Pikachu’s Vacation were the first things I *properly* watched and I’m thinking that the fact that it was so inaccessible to someone who knew nothing about it and relied so much on you already knowing the characters is why I grew up genuinely hating Pokémon? Huh. But gosh, I am loving this build! The removable brim is such a clever idea.

There are so many things I want to say right now so... here I go. 16:30 "Unhinged T-boy energy" is something I've never heard before, but it's an absolute mood, because why in the world would I not ride my giant serpentine (not) dragon into a storm on the ocean? That's badass. Also, Team Rocket totally made me gay, as in, I remember James being a childhood crush of mine. Though honestly, Pokemon as a whole kinda just... helped me figure myself out. I remember playing one of the Mystery Dungeon games as a child, and experiencing gender euphoria for the first time, when all the Pokemon used he/him to refer to my character. It's also really interesting to hear about this movie, for pretty much the first time, because I'm an early 2000s kid, and have only really started watching the anime around 3rd and 4th gen. The movies I remember the most were Lucario And The Secret Of Mew (aka the reason I was terrified of the regi-trio for an entire decade), and The Rise Of Darkrai, which is to this day one of my favorite movies. I found this all to be so interesting, just because of how far things have come, just from the first movie, to the ones I'm familiar with and now even further... It's really interesting to hear that there was apparently some fear about cloning and all that back then... I genuinely didn't know that, and knowing about it now, it would make sense that in 10 years or so, the fears some people have about AI would be similarly "outdated". Also the whole "who would I be in that world"... I love that. I feel like that's where a lot of creativity is born... from the question of how one could interact and who one could be in a different world, with different rules. Sometimes you just have to accept that things are weird, and make no sense in the context of our world, while experiencing another. Lastly, I just want to say, that the hat turned out great. I adore the mushroomyness of the bottom brim, with the lights in it, and the ban going around the top just looks so nice. It all has such a soft and very magical feel to it... Wonderful ^^

Oh man! It's amazing! And thank you for introducing me to a new material. I've made a wizard hat out of eva foam using a leatherworking pattern which worked well enough, but that stuff looks great. Also confirming the top of the hat is the crown and also that those leds are probably fine getting wet as long as the battery box stays dry.

The hat turned out so good!! I've gotta say you've definitely helped inspire and motivate me with my cosplay, seeing your original design costumes and book character cosplays turn out so well has helped push me to move towards doing those for myself. None of the convention based competitions in my area recognize anything but screen replica costumes as cosplay, so i was kinda weary on branching out because i wouldnt be allowed to compete and i wasnt sure anyone would recognize the character but ive kinda let go of that and started working pretty much only on book cosplays now! Many of the characters that mean a lot to me and that I'd love to bring to life are either from books or I'd like to put my own spin on, and now that ive started doing that it's made me so much happier than strictly following someone else's design work

I really enjoy your content and listening to you talk about your builds and how you interpret them in a more personal level. I've been cosplaying for 10 years and to me, cosplay has been my expression of how much the show/movie/game/etc. has meant to me personally. Almost like my ode to something that has given me so much joy. I see this in what you do and really relate! Great cosplay! And great choice of movie too, one of my favs! Btw, the uncut Mewtwo backstory was dubbed as well, just added on to the movie later, much like with the Japanese version. I recommend watching the English version of the backstory, it really elevates the scene and delivers one of the most important lines of the film.

I am loving this format you've been doing with your videos! It's been doing all sorts for my motivation and it really seems like you are enjoying what you are doing! As a kid who had to wait till Pokemon movie hit the kids club at our cinema before my Mum would be willing to spend money on it (deal tickets and often just about to leave the cinema), I definitely have the distinct memories of the adults around me really not enjoying/understanding the movie at all. I remember being disappointed because I wanted Mum to enjoy something with my siblings and I! Seeing the recap though I can definitely see where it's downfalls were. I don't think hot glue on its own has ever really been the issue. There are times when hot glue is the more ideal option, and there are times were it would be a really bad idea. It's not about whether it's used, it's about how it's used.

The first line of this video is so accurate. I am slowly working on a cosplay of Daisya Barry from D Gray man and all I needed for it was his poncho so I took a regular hooded poncho tutorial and edited the hood part and stuffed the hood with pollyfil to get it to sit on my head well and also retain the shape while having the regular hood shape act as an inner lining. My sewing machine also casually broke not long before a con so I have been sewing it by hand but I don't mind as I have the time to make this cosplay. Now I just have to finish that and then plan to make his bell out of soda cans because Aluminum is light yet durable and I don't have the funds for paper clay so reduce reuse and recycle.

I feel like Team Rocket’s constant wardrobe changes with zero regard for gender norms were very formative for a lot of trans people in our generation. Most children’s media has very rigid gender rolls, so seeing these villains who in the end were basically quirky friends completely defy those expectations was the first step in the journey to realizing you didn’t have to confirm either.
