i was so happy to see this recipe pop up. my mom used to make this for us, back in the late 70's, early 80's. this was a 'treat' in our house, and my 2 sisters and i loved, loved, loved this. nostalgia on steroids here! ty.

This is the cake my 37 yr old son always asks for as a birthday cake. Hes not much of a sweets eater and especially not icing on cake but this takes care of it.

I absolutely love "poke cakes" one of the many very good memories from my childhood. Vicky did you know you can also use pudding in place of the jello ? You would have to make your holes bigger my mom always used the handle of a wooden spoon then you mix up the pudding according to the directions on the box and pour it over the cake before it sets up. Then ice the cake with cool whip. It's also good & deliciously scrumptious !! Thank you once again for sharing this childhood memory and reminding me about it. I just made one Tuesday morning. It's my mom's favorite. We use a straw to make the holes. We've always just called it Jello cake.

I was just thinking about this cake last week. One of my sisters would mix in jello into the cool whip for extra flavor.

In the UK we call that a trifle
