It was there in the original game, just about older models of computers and televisions. They updated it for the digital age.

A cool detail about this fight is that Doopliss loses the moment he's knocked out, like Mario does. It also means you can do a challenge run by going after Goombella first, who will be swapped out with Koops after she loses. Then Flurrie, then Dazzle. And the partners with upgrades have the third skills. The remake went the extra mile by making it so beating the first fight while wearing the W Emblem makes Doopliss dress that way for the rest of the chapter *and* twilighters commenting on "Mario"'s appearance have their dialogue changed to match the colours he's wearing.

@@larsbohmer6319 You mean the ONLY leveling method. Especially after completing the pit of 100-trials. Even the enemies from 90+ aren't paying out anymore. (I think I'm level 36 or so...)

Well done with clearing the chapter, especially with the timing with the attack boost from the charm. Also it’s nice that Vivian joined because of how kind Mario was to her despite the not knowing who he was at the time.

To explain a little bit, Duplighosts like Doopliss do naturally possess the power to copy and transform themselves into their enemies. However, the whole body snatching thing is pretty unique to Doopliss. As for why, in the original GameCube version, the birds who give you the hint about Creepy Steeple mention that if people don't know your name, then "you can use unstoppable magic". You know what they say, names have power. And knowing his name robs him of his power, allowing you to beat him. The conflicts between you and him prior to guessing him are also a little different compared to the GameCube version. As for the Gold Bar, they're basically just for selling. There is a place in the game that buys them for the highest price though, unlike in the previous version

Back in the GameCube day the coin limit was 999 so buying gold bars was a way to convert extra coins to gold without losing them. The coin limit here is 9999 so that’s not much of an issue in this game.

In the gamecube version, the coin max was 999, where here it's 9999. The gold bar is essentially a bond you can store to bypass the 999 coin limit. Also, he's based on Rumplestiltskin, Doopliss is called Rumple in Japan.

"Not more Vivian hate please. Vivian doesn't deserve it." The whole of the fandom for this game, veterans and newcomers, agree with you Zorin. Whether a girl always (original 2004 script) or trans(formed) into a girl (original Japanese script; used for 2024 game), Vivian has always been my best girl, for Paper Mario in general and for this game. Yay, you did it Zorin. Congratulations on beating my favorite chapter in the game, and thank goodness for that pipe being put in that empty house for the remake. It addresses the backtracking complaints the original iteration had, just like a certain jumping platform will for Chapter 5's backtracking sections. Do you like Pirates of the Caribbean, or just ocean-going ghost stories?

Indeed not. If people did not read faerie lore, they likely learned the "True names have power." concept in the original Thousand Year Door, playing this very chapter.

Yay, we have best girl! And she packs a wallop with her abilities, she's my main partner when I don't need a specific strategy. This chapter may be backtracking central, but it's one of the best story-wise. Art Attack is incredibly helpful against high-HP enemies. You can do up to 15 damage with good drawing, and it bypasses defense. And Chapter 4 has the Amazee Dazee, which has 20 HP and 1 defense and does 20 damage with its attack, but it drops a LOT of Star Points, starting at around forty-five a pop. Follow up with a partner attack that can do at least 5 damage and they go down easily. If you feel like doing a bit of grinding for levels hang around here for a bit and Art Attack Amazee Dazees. I always do it until I max out BP at level 33 XD

Apparently, in the original, if you one-shot the faker before Vivian joins… she's just… there… in your party afterwards. Also, I just now realized the coloring of Mario without his identity, plus the background color of the area near the Fake’s castle definitely make it seem like you're intended to get attacked so you know how to fight without partners.

Fun fact: As mentioned by Vivian, she’s trans female, something that’s actually in the original Japanese script. Ironically, some people had thought it was a localization error and made a huge fuss about it. Great video Zorrin!
