Marvellous lesson once again, reminds me of something Ginger Baker said about playing, it is all about having "time." Getting comfortable playing music a person needs to have time.

Thank you for the time and thought you invest into your so great lessons. No longer playing out or regularly jamming, I play a great deal through a variety of pedals into a looper. Laying the bass track down (using an EHX Pitchfork) to a drum track is now even more fun since I’ve subscribed and get inspired by you. Better bass = better groove and that makes me play guitar soooo much better. And when I get a real bass in my hands that is even more fun. Cheers to you, brother - I hope all goes well for you.

That's the whole point of the lessons. I don't really teach any riffs for the sake of riffs. They're simply a vehicle for teaching an aspect of music

The vibe of this riff kind of reminds me of Mellowship Slinky In B major by the Chili Peppers. Obviously not the same riff but similar vibe is all.

When you play i hear a slight buzzing going on in the notes. I have that too when i play. I wonder if that is acceptable or normal and how you think about that. It sometimes bothers me and then i think i'm doing it wrong. But i hear it when professional people play the bass as well. So: do you consider it to be normal? Do you hear it too? How do you feel about it? Thank you.
@Monkey-ry8fh
@Monkey-ry8fh 3 года назад
Well take my advice with a grain of salt but a lot of people like that buzz for certain types a bass lines it really depends on wether you like more with or without the buzz

Super noob question. But if this is based off of the dominant C7 chord, why is there a G + G flat and a B + B flat in there ? I guess it's one of those things that just works ? or is my understanding of it incorrect ?
@talkingbasslessons
@talkingbasslessons 2 года назад
Chord tones are the main points of resolution but music isn’t just made up of chord tones. Chord tones are important to know but nearly all music is made up of notes outside the chord. You need to look at melodic devices like approach notes, neighbour notes and passing notes. These can be diatonic or chromatic and work around the chord tone framework. The line of Bb B C makes use of B natural as a chromatic passing note. This is where you’ll find the spice of music.

I'd dig on hearing Mark play more bass as he is an accomplished bassist-musician, he does transcriptions for other teachers also, but you need to remember this is a lesson to show the finer points of playing a "funk" pattern and how to get the rhythmic nuances right. If he simply played the riff over and over people would complain that he is too busy showing off his bass guitar skills.
