I can't believe how good we had it. Between Rainbow Six Vegas, Gears, COD 1-4, Halo 1-3, Valve at its peak with HL2 and CSS and TF2 and L4D, WoW popping off, dozens of new masterpieces yearly all finished and full of content with no microtransactions. Amazing times.
Fun fact: the famous "Mad world" trailer was directed by Joseph Kosinski. The director of the starry night trailer for Halo 3, Tron legacy, oblivion, and top gun maverick.
The first time I played Gears Of War I was really terrified at the Berserker part, and called two of my friends to help me to play through it. Then we played Gears 2 and Gears 3 together.
Gears of war 1 was a horror game in a lot of ways and that was lost in the future installments, even the ultimate edition phased out a lot of the horror.
@@bubbajoe117UE didn't phased out it pussyfied the attention-to-detail of the game. You dont see bone and organs protruding out of gibbed locust bodies. Plus the corpses littered throughout the game has been dumbed down like the hanging corpses at the prison.
@@EvilPhoenix007 You may prefer the original look, but I can't say I miss the early PS3/Xbox 360 era of gray/yellow filters with dull colors that plagued this era. I honestly think OG Gears was one of the worst offenders about this. You can depict a lifeless warzone while still giving it some color variety. They thankfully found a right balance with Gears 3.
@@alexrogers777 I disagree. Typically I’d agree that in most cases having more than one option is beneficial especially in video games as to not become boring, annoying, or redundant. Like NPC’s with the same 2-3 responses all game. BUT the headshot sound was so perfect it rose above that. Being you admitted it is the best, you by default know it is incapable of being better. So why change something or add to it, when all it would do is take away from what is already perfect? Nothing can be better than the best. By definition.
I still remember playing the campaign back in the day on my Xbox 360 console. I used to be scared of this game because of the monster at the end of Act 1. It’s still a good thing I have my copy of the game disc because I am planning to reply the game to get the Hardcore and Insane campaign achievements.
All of them were except the newer ones. I Remembered playing Gears of War 3 when I was a kid and I cried seeing Dom sacrifice himself (bots are stupid)
I will never forget my dad bringing home our first 360 with Gears of War to go with it. I was like 7-8 years old at the time and it took me days to get through the campaign on my own because the mission where you're stuck in the building with the Berserker terrified me to my core. Life was so much simpler back then lmfao.
Same lmao. My first two xbox 360 games were lego marvel and gears of war. I was 7 at the time. My dad played through the campaign with me and I remember being terrified of the beserker as well. But after rewatching this I remember it being MUCH taller haha.
Gears still has so much unrealized potential but it's had nothing but mid releases for over a decade that it's hard to remember it was THE hottest game of 2006 and had a cultural impact almost on the level of Halo in the late 00's.
For real man. The series is a sitting gold mine but the people in charge don't even know the potential. A Fenix Collection like Halo MCC would be so dope
Sadly I agree, I can remember chatting with my buddies how this is on the level of Halo and could go on to become one of the seriously greatest trilogies ever and although it kinda achieved that, it also massively fell flat on what Gears 1 promised, Gears 2 and 3 were great story wise and the multiplayers were great, but nothing on par with Halo 3.
The whole franchise (from 1-3) was an absolute masterpiece. Dom’s sacrifice with mad world playing in the background still makes me tear up and cry decades later. Fantastic game❤️
Gears of War has a special place in my heart. Memories of me and my sister going to our cousin's house and playing it on her Xbox 360. She was Fenix, and I was Santiago. I came up with our gamertags. We were around 9 and 12. We finally finish the campaign last year, lol.
Gears 3 horde mode was fun. Halo 3 has one of the best atmospheres in gaming, combined with the beautiful soundtrack. Both hold up today and if you have Xbox game pass you can get them both for free :)
My uncle showed me gears 3 12 years ago when I was only 7. Since that day, I played through all of them with him and it easily became my favorite game all time. Praying for the next one to come out 🙏🏼
It causes me physical PAIN that we got a master chief collection with all the games on PC and we havent gotten a god dang marcus fenix collection with 1 through 3 ported onto PC
Man Gears of war unlocks core memories for me. Sitting in the basement the lingering stench of moisture/ mildew. The 24 inch cathode tube box TV with the composite cables. Constantly smacking the TV to get the screen to get static to clear up. Playing on my older brothers Xbox live account, those were the times man. "You never forget the first time you chainsaw a man in this game." True-er words have never been spoken. I still vividly remember it to this day.
Gears is my favourite game series. I had soo much attachment to it based on it being my first multiplayer experience. Along with my dad and I doing the campaign together. It was one of the few times I actually felt connected with my father at the time. And I hold those memories dearly. I was 10 when it came out, and the imulsion factory used to give me nightmares cause the wretches there creeped me out lol
Glad to see you playing this Charlie. Will always be one of my favorite series of all time and it was cool to learn it’s kind of how you got your start as a content creator!
Nothing can beat the feeling of that good ol' chainsaw or grenade tag kill in the GOW series. GOW 3 will always be the king of XboxLive experiences for me
When I was a kid, I remember my cousin and I being absolutely terrified by the enemy that can’t see but can hear you. We genuinely had to take a break cause we were too scared of it
I've played these games so much, it's so nostalgic to see this campaign again, I played through Gears 1-3 with my brother one Saturday all day, some of the best times of my life.
I just finished playing through all 5 gears with my dad he first had me playing as dom back in 06’ and we just went back and wrapped up all the gears games. Love ya pops 🙏🏼
I love this guys channel. I am a really busy guy and sometimes I need to fast forward through some of the videos or I just cone back and watch little sections at a time.
I always laughed whenever Kim got a kill with the chainsaw. The freaking war cry he made was always made me laugh in tears while the locust was getting ripped in half. Even funnier when a locust came through the door and he had the chainsaw just ready
First The Act Man and now you Charlie. As I die hard Gears of War fan, thank you so much for making a video about this beautiful game. I have really good memories with my dad thanks to Gears of War, specially the first game. It was gorgeous! I've played all of the games and Gears of War will always be my favorite game franchise ever. The orginal trilogy speaks for itself. Just perfect! Gears of War 3 has a special place in my heart because it was the first ever game I played on online. It was my introduction to online multiplayer and it was a blast! I have an unpopular opinion and that is that I absolutely loved Judgement! It wasn't as fleshed out as the others but it was inovative in a lot of ways. You were able to use a Mauler Shield in one hand and any other weapon (excepting heavy weapons) on the other one, such as a Gnasher or Markza, you were able to select your favorite grenade and main weapon and the absolute best thing is that it introduced Free For All for the very first time in the franchise. The waiting was eternal but it was worth it. I have so many good memories playing FFA in Judgement. The distinct gameplay, alongside this gamemode was truly iconic. Then Gears of War 4 came out and it was insane too! I played a ton of multiplayer too but I want to shoutout horde in this game. It's design was very compelling and I completed the 50 waves so many times. Personally, the best horde experience I've ever had is in Gears of War 4. Insane! And last but not least, Gears 5. The most frenetic, polished and fun Gears to date in my opinion. Surprisingly, Gears 4 didn´t have Free For All, which was dissapointing but after I saw Gears 5 brougth it back, I was so so happy. A dream come true. I have to say it. Gears 5 Free For All mode with 14 players is the best multiplayer experience ever! A Masterpiece gamemode! If you have Game Pass or Gears 5, I really encourage you to play Free for all 14 players. The game has been out for several years now but I always come back to Gears 5 just to play FFA and I always have a ton of fun! Never get enough of it. It's truly unique and an experience worth having. Gears 5 is very underrated and deserves a lot better. There's have been other type of games in the franchise too, such as Gears Tactics and Gears POP (I played the hell out of it! It was amazing too. I miss you so much... R.I.P Gears POP). I know this video is dedicated to the original Gears of War but I just wanted to express my passion for this franchise and how much it means to me and hopefully many others. Once again Charlie, thank you so much for making this video. Seeing this video brings me a lot of nostalgia, specially playing it the way intended, as everyone else for the very first time. I'm pretty sure you encouraged a lot of veteran players to revisit the first games and hopefully brougth a lot of newcomers too. If you're new to the franchise, I really recommend you to give it a try. Gears 6, we're waiting for you. :')
Excited about the new eday prequel! Gonna get me an Xbox for it. Just turned 25 the og trailer for this game at the time got my dad getting a 360 when it came out. Pretty cool to see a new game using ue5 most next gen games ive played have been on ps5 but hadnt had the need for an Xbox since halos been terrible since forever. Hopefully the new game will not only hit on graphics having true next gen graphics with a good story and that heavy gameplay of the first 2 games but in a good way. We don't need an open world game all the time. They should be able to do something spectacular.
This made me so nostalgic…back in the day I was actually nasty with sniper battles on GOW. We all remember those blind fire/pop-shot battles on Canals!
@@aayushsharma8771 i like 4 & 5 now but they were busted on launch, especially 5. Took about 2-3 weeks for the servers to finally work properly and they made fan favorite characters that were always in the series cost $7 per skin, which was made worse by there being no content to unlock. TC also planned on releasing the game in 2020, but Microsoft forced them to release it early alongside gamepass, and it never really became a full packaged game until operation 4, which was a year after the game came out. Too many people had already left the game by the time it had content, which is very similar to what happened to halo infinite but at least infinite was free
I was top 100 in the leaderboard numerous times, that’s how little of a life I had in 2006. I never got my “seriously” achievement despite being well over the threshold. I’m still upset about that to this day.
You've inspired me. I'm going to get gears 1 and 2 again to complete my collection, bust out my red gears controller, and get back to it. These were great games man.
The series that got me into gaming I was co oping this with my father at age 4, also my older brother would always make me kill the berserker for him 😂
I grew up in this era. This was a pinnacle in my life you posting a gears video have a special place in my heart thank you this IP needs to be brought back
GOW was my shit dude. I played this so much... I even made some of the most popular glitch how-to videos back in the day for this game. I remember shotty/snipers on Canals and Gridlock. Id play that all day every day.
the kung fu flip is : get into cover look down and vault over, while vaulting hold down on LS then press AB at the same time the crab walk is : get into cover and while switching to the next position you have to hold down on LS constant actives is : pull out pistol, shoot a few times and reload, while reloading switch to desired weapon and hit reload again then hit the actives
Great to see this franchise (1-3) get played by big creaters such as charlie, this is a much loved game series, wich I've played many times. good to see Charlie.
Gears 1 multiplayer was truly a gem and ahead of its times, despite all the problems it had (e.g. the massive lag and host advantage). To me, even though I enjoyed playing Gears 2 and 3, the first one had the steeper learning curve and the most satisfying sense of accomplishment when killing someone or making a huge play. I remember that 5 or 6 years ago I logged in during a summer and could still find a group of OGs playing private and ranked matches. I wonder if someone is still playing it.
to this day i will stay stand and died on the hill that the golden days of gaming was 2004 to 2014, all games series were at there best Grand Theft Auto halo original cod series gears of war mass effect batman arkham series portal bioshock half life series red dead elder scrolls far cry assassin creed fall out metal gear mafia star wars resident evil uncharted hitman saints row left 4 dead god of war battlefeld dragon age kindom hearts good sports games final fantasy starcraft zelda the fucking sims spinter cell metro infamous dark souls dead space witcher the last of us wolfenstein destiny so on and so forth, all of them were at their best and you cant denied it. im so glad i got to live though it
This will always be the golden era of online gaming for me. I’d remember coming home from school on a Friday and literally play Gears 1 with my friends online until 10am the next day. Fuck I miss those days
I got my cousin into Gears of War because Dom kept jumping into the darkness and dying during those "don't go in the dark" missions and I needed a player 2 to stop him from doing that. Gears 2 horde mode has some of my favourite memories.
While I appreciate the remaster for what it is, the original feels more like gears of war with it's gritty, choppy visuals which actually looked really good for its time. The series X, 60fps boost is actually insane, it's like playing the rose tinted memory you have of the game.
I have thousands of hours on all gears games and 2 is without a doubt my overall favorite. Best campaign/multi-player maps and it still has that broken feel of the first one. I can't wait to watch you play through that one
All i remember from playing gears on my uncles xbox was there was taht hand monster who was digging around underground and i loved playing it bc it was so badass to 5yo me
Gears was what really showed off 360 capabilities first time I hit the story mode I was blown away. The graphics were better than anything I’ve seen at the time. And I used to be up till 3am weeknights playing online
I own 3 physical copies of Gears of War 2. One just the standard case. One just the steel bookcase. And one of the whole boxset with the art book in French. I will continue to buy physical copies of it whenever I see it simply because it is byfar my most favorite game I have ever played. I love you, Gears of War 2. And as a side note. The Carmine family is my absolute favorite series of characters in any franchise whatsoever. Their story is one of the best in my opinion.
I watched the first part of this stream a few nights ago and had to go back and play through the game again for the first time in Idk how long. Loved every second. Started the second this morning.
Oh my God, I literally just went to a retro store the other day and thought to myself you know what I wanna play the original gears of war 360 a few days later Charlie drops a banger like this on his channel. I’m glad the years are more fandom is still around.
This game was so good for the time. This was my favorite by far. I took a class that helped the chorus teacher set up for events and stuff and he would just sign me out all day long so I wouldn’t have to be in class. I brought my 360 in with gears and we set it up with a huge tv in the chorus practice room which was super small. We ordered pizza and played gears all day long it was awesome. I wanna say I was in 10th grade
I played this game for the first time ALL the way with my dad in campaign as Dom (cuz achievements), and then again as Marcus by myself. I was absolutely in love with Halo, GoW, Original COD4MW, and L4D. This was the peak of shooter games, seriously.
Probably the best time of my life was back during gears 2. My prime gaming experience was from WAW to around Bo2 (obviously includes gears 2 and 3). I remember having a blast playing gears 2 co op campaign and obviously multiplayer was a blast. The whole Xbox 360 experience can never be replicated.
