The fact that Microsoft would let Halo and Gears of war, two franchises that felt like they defined an entire generation, fall deeper and deeper into mediocrity is actually insane.
@@jgamez106 4 isn't really awful but it's hard to compete with the og 3, personally I think judgements campaign and overrun aren't too bad and I know I'm not alone in thag
@@SirWinnigton I mean 4’s campaign was kinda run of meh but I was all there for horde mode. I just loved that you could essentially set up camp wherever and some of the maps made it really fun to play on
Lil fun fact, the armor in gears is so good, people get their ribs n stuff broken from taking bullets, they aren’t penetrating the armor. Thats why you can canonically eat a bunch of rounds to the chest and not die
Charlie said he doesn't remember the sires at 51:00 but they are actually the origins of the locust. The COG accidentally made them by mutating humans and the AI Miles went rogue leading to the locust escaping and making their own society under the mountain, led by the Queen who worked at the facility, thats why their Queen is a human. I love how the game doesn't spoonfeed you this but gives you the evidence to figure it out without actually explicitly saying it
I loved the Sires - legitimately the saddest origins for the Locust. Originally they were posed as "They were always here beneath us" then slowly it came out they were yet another human tragedy inflicted on ourselves. Then theres the Lambent
I remember people were commenting about how the Locust Origins long before 5 outright said what they were. It's crazy how it was always there before 5 made it obvious.
I remember going to my friend's house back in the day and cycling between Halo 3/Reach, the current year's FIFA, and Gears 2 Horde mode for hours... Those were beautiful days...
The best gears in the franchise for me, The scene where you find Tai is absolutely crazy to see as a young kid and finding Mia deadass made me cry at like 12 years old 😭😭
@@TheFirstCurse1Yeah, it was very simplistic though. If I can remember correctly, there were no fortifications, no money system, and no boss waves, I still believe after every 10 waves, the locust get stronger. The multiplayer map’s pickup weapons are free to take.
@@TheFirstCurse1 oh damn I did not read that correctly, sorry. It’s Gears of War 2, which can also be abbreviated to GoW… and GoW can mean God of War. Sorry the confusion.
Gears of war genuinely is the reason I got out of the spongebob and licensed games and dove into call of duty, Medal of Honor, and even mortal kombat. Love you forever gears 2
I mightve watched every second of this on stream, but it’s gears 2 so I’m gonna watch it again. Seriously tho my love for this game will never die out no matter how old I am
@@lookatthem3216Gears 2 was probably the second game I played and I didn't play the first one until years later. The rift worm is still one of my favourite
Gears of war 2 and 3 changed me and my brother's life as a kid. We first played Gears 2. We loved it so much that we practically begged my dad to buy the limited edition for Gears 3 and he did. We also had action figures of the Kantus, Ben and Clayton Carmine, and Marcus Fenix.
Seeing the silver silhouetted lancer case took me BACK. I too went to the midnight release for Gears of War 2 and I remember seeing the big caverns after leaving Dizzy to fight Skorge in the ODST drill things, the entire segment with the big ass tunneling worm, and the research station with the sires absolutely blowing my mind and thinking that it could be a movie. The research station even scared the shit out of me with it's clear and for some reason good horror elements.
It happened to be my birthday on the release of gears 2 when I was 10 or so, I grew up playing the first one from older brothers. I will never forget getting home to play this game and sneaking downstairs at night to keep playing. The campaign, multiplayer, it was all incredible.
Say what you want about Gears 5 but I really like the fact that they continued a minor plotline that was introduced in Gears Of War 2 (with the Locust creation)
It had a couple of wins but I think they failed at trying to scale Gears into "modern technology" i.e. Open world etc , and fell short because of that. Also some cringe characters
Yeah them bringing back Niles and finally explaining how Myrrah truly is the mother of all the locust (and in reality was just a traumatized little girl subject to experimentation) was just perfect
@217adaptiveperspective yeah it kinda tripped me out cause on my memory i thought the games confirmed it in 2 but really they offer a very vague glance at a shut down government facility that players could kind of put together their own interpretations.
Army of Two and Gears of War were my first real co-op experiences. Fun times! I brought my TV and PlayStation over to a friend and we didn't do anything until the game was over. That was also my first time using LAN connection on anything other than a PC.
I'll be honest I don't even think the communities for these games are as good as they used to be because the 360 era was something special and it will never be replicated
Idk if it's still going but they had a sale on pass for $1 for 14 days. Me and my buddy got it so we can relive our days of playing coop after school. Beat the whole game with no issues.

It’s always a good day when Charlie fills me with his contents for 2 hours
I used to play this all evening and night along with cod4/waw/mw2 with the boys. Then I played pokemon platinum until the morning. Summer of 2009 was the best I ever had.
Honestly, charlie talking bout midnight releases pisses me off that i missed a golden age of gaming, im a 2000s kid but couldn’t do midnight release in my country since there weren’t any stores like that. The last time i was able to do anything close to that was the release of halo master chief collection For pc, but everything was just dine online and discord. Just as got my gaming laptop, the community for that died down especially when i went to the us for college, i miss those l4d2, halo and dota moments. Wish it came back somehow.
The only gears of war that I play was the one where you wake up in the jail cell and the building is all broken up. I still like watching you stream though
Genuine joy when I just now watched the "lil freak" music video. I only have heard the song passing by on my recommendations but it's so much better now that I've seen Charlie in it.
Speaking of war, *KAIJU No.8* This manga is about a dystopian Japan that is rampaged by giant monsters on a daily basis. But a new variant of monsters wants to bring in a new era for the monster kind. Now it's all of Japan + one human-kaiju hybrid VS all the monsters. There is also a newly released anime based on it as well
Had to have been around 8-9 when this came out so it was my first introduction to the series. Cole Trains entrance will always be a solid favorite along with Might Guy’s Dynamic Entry
This franchise IS UNMATCHED. I still remember coming home from school and seeing my first halo series 360 on my bed with GOW amongst the games, and I was hooked. Best franchise I ever played imo
I remember watching an interview with the producers stating that they gave Dom this emotional journey instead of Marcus because it wouldn’t fit with his character well. They knew their characters when writing the story and it shows
Ngl, I started playing Gears 2 when I was like 9-11, and of ALL the characters, Skorge (the Locust with a helmet that looks like it has locks and the double chainsaw) became my childhood crush 😭😭
I get jealous thinking about everyone else who got to experience these games. As a 2004 baby, I didn't have an Xbox until around 2012, and even then we never had internet to play online. Around 2022 I played Gears 5 for the first time cause my friend wanted to play the campaign. We haven't finished it yet lol, but I played a LOT of horde and some multiplayer. I'm a Cod zombies fan so I love horde. Anyways, since my friend grew up playing Gears he said he wants to play through all the campaigns in order from the first game to the most recent. When we do finally get around to play them, I wanna see for myself what I couldn't experience back when I had my no wifi Xbox. Seeing the story looks really enticing, and I love watching Charlie have fun with it. I don't really get whats going on exactly, but it still looks hella cool.
I hated the part where you pilot the centaur. Felt so bad to handle and the part with the ice, forget it. Sometimes thats one of the reasons why I dont wanna play the campaign again cuz ik im gonna have to sit there for a while and fight the controls 😅
Gears 2 was the first game i got on my xbox 360 but i didnt have a memory stick so i had to leave my xbox on for weeks straight. I still have the disc and its completely laser burned
Can’t believe I played all 3 gears growing up and can’t remember a single mission besides the worm mission and where you and Ty have to carry some box together while shooting shit😭 pardon my language
i played through gears 5 recently with rtx4080 and 4k oled and its decent. not very long though. The game is like 100+gb download and i bet most of it is the multiplayer maps.
Man, this took me back to my teenage years. Had both of the gears 3 and 5 special edition consoles. Gears 2 was probably one of my most favorite games of all time though. So many good memories with my two buddies grinding it out all day everyday in guardian. Then in Gears 3 when Dom sacrificed himself, that is the only time a video game has ever made me tear up. But after gears 3 it fell off. Miss that gears 1-3 era.
Bro actually returned to his roots, thanks so much for playing Gears of War again, this game was a timeless classic of my childhood and seeing you replay it and give it a bit more exposure was great.
Bro, I totally forgot how the last act of this game starts with the cutscene making it look like there’s going to be five of you fighting, but then Baird and Cole just despawn.
