This Game is Doing the Impossible 

TL;DR version: Anila is one of the Twelve Divine Generals in in the mobile game (referred to by the larger fandom as the Zodiac characters since they always release new ones/bring back the old ones at the start of the New Year, and are always based on a Chinese Zodiac). Anila was the first Zodiac character to be released for GBF, being added back in New Years Day 2015 to represent the Year of the Goat/Ram; hence the sheep design. Fun Fact: Most if not all of the Zodiacs’ charge attack animations in GBF are also based on various SNK characters because CyGames are just mega-fans like that. In Anila’s case she has Terry Bogard’s Power Geyser and Buster Wolf which are being represented in GBVS as what’re likely her Skybound Art and Super Skybound Art respectively based on the trailer

I disagree with the want for air dashes. Movement is fun and is typically a staple of anime fighters. But, it's clear that this game, from the beginning, was trying to go for a more grounded footsies feel, similar to street fighter. I like that that's the games identity and would be really sad if these new mechanics end up changing that identity to something similar to all the other arcsys anime fighters we have now.

As someone who joined my first ever community discord server just to play this game with a dedicated fanbase, this information, when it was revealed for me shook me so hard. Absolutely amazing day of my life tbh

GBFVS was a game that was easy to get into but still had a lot of depth. It felt like the perfect fighting game for me. Hearing it has crossplay and rollback netcode in Rising is beyond exciting. Looking forward to more GBFVS content from you!

GBVS is the game that made me a serious fan of FGs. I believe the main reason we got this new version with so many improvements for a "dead game" is because Tetsuya Fukuhara, the Granblue franchise director, is a massive fighting games fan and GBVS was kind of a passion project for him. Besides, GBVS sold extremely well, everyone that played it loved it aside from the shit netcode, and Cygames has tons and tons of money. The new mechanics should be a new counter-hit state, a guard break move, and new SSBA. According to a reliable source, Rising is coming out in late August

The first 2 months or so of GBVS was magical. Locals everywhere, meet ups at people's houses, and a fresh experience. Once covid hit all of that stopped. No longer could we drive weekly to a local. Or random meet ups throughout the city. I'd love to see this game get a complete revival. It deserves it

I don't get why others want this to be a anime fighter when its game play design is supposed to be more of a Grounded Fighter like Street Fighter. That's why they have the movement be the way it is. Added Air dash will truly kill the game and I really hope they never bring it in. Solid video regardless but can we have more games be grounded and not changed to every basic Air dashing fighting game trying to be Guilty Gear?

on airdashes, it's just not the kind of game to fit airdashes. you wouldn't put universal airdashes in street fighter because characters don't have kits that are designed to deal with that. this game isn't trying to be guilty gear, so i think airdashes wouldn't really work in it. otherwise, great video!

I had such high hopes for Granblue Fantasy Versus and was disappointed with how quickly it was dropped. When I first saw the Rising trailer, I almost cried. One of my happiest moments in relation to the FGC.

It's really interesting that this game is re-using assets to lower costs and keep the game going, and it's being well-received for it nowadays. The only recent examples I remember are BBTAG, KOF 15 and Tekken 7. It's not a bad strategy at all, and I'm very happy they seem to be expanding the game and keeping everything that people like intact. I just hope they give a discount to people who have the previous version.

The 1st trailer for granblue rising has the honor of being the only trailer I've seen for a fighting game that almost brought a tear to my eye (normally i just get hyped as hell and scream like a maniac lmao), it was a game that deserved better and I'm so glad it's getting all the love it so rightfully deserves. Also thank God they picked Anila and not Vikala because the last thing I needed in the game was a character with Charlotta's hurtbox and Ferry's hitboxes lol.

I think the only thing I need is combo variety. It's a grounded footsie fighter, but the lack of variance in moves and pokes gets really stale really fast to me.

The thing I'm worried about is that GBVS Rising is a whole new game. If I can take the copy of GBVS I have and spend 30 bucks upgrading it, okay. If this is just another Street Fighter > Super Street Fighter > Ultra Street Fighter situation, that could be really bad. Theres still a stigma around fighters doing this even though its not really common practice anymore (for good reason) and I dont want another mainstream game to really be pushing that unless theres an easy-upgrade option.

I just hope it's available as an update to the original. I've already spent so much on the first game, including the collector's edition, character DLC, season passes, etc. And they said everything from the first game will be included, so having to pay full price for everything I already bought, again, for a few tweaks that could be included as an update would make Me not get it, and I LOVE this game.

As someone who was super into the mobile game, loves fighting games, and was super sad that Versus never got a real shot cause of the pandemic, I couldn’t be happier. I hope you keep covering it! I hope this pops off here. I loved GBVS, and I was hoping for a rollback patch (figured it was taking longer because of RPG Mode), but a proper sequel with rollback, crossplay, and totally-not-Fall Guys? Hells yeah!

I really hope Rising is what Granblue needed to get back on its feet. I love the game so much but delay netcode feels so bad after i've been playing rollback in other games. On top of that, the game's probably gonna get a whole lot saucier to play in neutral, land combos, and even just watch in general now

I adore Granblue in general. This was also my first real game in fighting that I was training in. My buddy Dusty has been teaching me how to truly fight in fighting games so one day I could do tournaments. He's also teaching me BB which is so much faster it causes my hands to cramp. I cannot wait for Rising. Hands down.

Hey! I've watched primarily your Hinkami Chronicles videos, but I had no idea you also had some interest in GBVS. I've been playing GBVS for just shy of a year now, and was surprised to see a video in my feed from you talking about Rising. I would love to see your reactions to future things for this game if you still have interest in it. GBVS was my first real fighting game, and it was what made me fall in love with the genre and start trying to delve into improving and getting better at it - as well as make more friends and meet new people. Keep up the good work! Also I'm part of the consensus where I really don't want airdashes in the game personally; I think the nature of it being more of a grounded-footsies based game is what gives it part of its charm, so I hope they don't add that or things from other fighting games (like bursts from Guilty Gear or BBCF) because I think those things will compromise the footsies-nature of this game

Amazing! I loved Granblue Fantasy Versus, but it died out pretty quickly. All these additions are everything I could've wanted for the game. Super excited for Granblue to make its comeback!

That new "Triple Attack" variant reminds me of an idea I had for a fighting game. If it already exists, I'd be pumped to learn more. In short: What if we had a rhythm-based fighting game? Basically, the neutral game would be similar to a normal fighting game, but when doing combos you'd have to press buttons with a specific rhythm and in certain orders to create new routes and abilities. The directional imputs would still be present for hits and neutral, but no quarter circle or stuff.

I was always interested in Granblue but the lack of rollback made me hold off. I also didn't think i'd like a game with shorter combos after DBFZ but Strive has opened my eyes to the fact that combo length not being that important. Curious to see how dash attacks change things and if the game has/will have a dash macro (Arcsys PLEASE).

I played here in the US until online went completely dry. I was one of the topped ranked Grans at one point. I grinded the SHIT outta that game. I am dropping Smash Ultimate to pick up the new iteration on Granblue. I love it.

I tried out Versus simply cause it was free on PS+, It's a fun game, instantly had to buy like, 3 characters right away cause I loved their designs, and 2 of those I'd definitely want to "Main".......if I cared about playing online at all, lol. My Fantasy, no pun intended, is for you to get ALL the previously locked DLC characters upon getting this "Upgrade", but that'd be way too generous honestly, lol, I can't hope for any particular character cause I know next to nothing about Granblue, LOL.

I think for the start they're going to add between 4-6 characters. I think three is too low, especially as they didn't immediately announce when is the game releasing, but anything more than six is asking too much. Regardless, I'm hyped. I might buy this early because I enjoyed the game a lot when I got to it two years ago. I really hope it is successful man. Cygames is one of the only gachage company trying to break out of just gacha games and I hope they succeed.

This game works way better without airdashes, if they add airdashes in this game it would just ruin the uniqueness of this game. If you truly want airdashes that badly there is Vira who sort of has it in her ‘awakened’ mode. Solid video though.

Dunno if it was in the original but the underrated mechanic seems to be the visual feedback when getting hit by lows or overheads, if i saw it right for lows it shows a blue ! and for overheads an orange !!. I'd like this in more fighting games especially for moves that are let's say a bit ambiguous on how they're animated. It won't show you before the move hits but atleast after you can see oh i shoulda blocked low there instead of going WHOOA that shit hits low???!

The only thing im worried is about pricing this game had horrible pricing in some regions and after that horrible monetazation with their battle passes.For me no air dash not all games have to do that even more one that is made with beginners in mind and I like granblue as a anime version of Street fighter . i would be surprised if dragon ball receive anything aside the rollback and maybe a small balance patch the producer they were done and Arcsys is already working in 3 games again with the dlc of DNF duel,GG Strive and GBVS.
