This Golf Swing Mistake Can RUIN Your Game!

In today’s session, we do some important MYTH BUSTING on some common mistakes we see in the golf swing.
Namely, we’ve found that the Snead Drill, or the Basket Drill, has taught people to externally rotate the femurs, making the pelvis the active rotator. This generally leads to early rotation in the pelvis, causing the player to have to “save” it, in the downswing.
As we squat in transition, we want to keep the lead femur relatively internal, as opposed to external. This delays rotation until the right time, and smooths things out tremendously!

You said the greatest truth: the correct words build the correct mental map about the movement. The ability to find the right words is what separate great teachers from bad teachers. People that say that golf is easy is the few lucky people that receive the right words and convert them in movement easily.

I've been rebuilding my golf swing over the last few years, because when I was young and flexible, I could sort of get away with no lower body movement. I've heard rotate, rotate, rotate...so what do I do, spin out. Every video from you all resonates with me, finally makes sense. Between this video and the one about inactive scapular movement towards the body's midline, I finally feel like I'm close to putting it all together.

You fella’s keep delivering. Learning to understand this is the key to understanding how the bump and squat truly occur in transition phase into P5. Forget the rotate the hips advice all that does is lead to early extension and excessive tilting (in my case).

Milo explains this exact topic, sounds like you’re on the same page. The one caveat as you said actively externally rotating the trail leg is not optimal however actively holding the lead leg in adduction is probably even more detrimental I struggled with that which caused knee issues until Milo helped me fix it. In your demonstration at 6:16 your lead knee stayed too internal and it caused inside ankle bone low strain on inside of knee I experienced. How about allowing the lead knee to work out naturally as you drop and as you explained the knees will separate passively dropping the ball or basket not actively rotating external with the femurs.
@elitegolfschools

It should absolutely NOT be prevented from moving, however it will still be moving internal based on the femur and pelvis’ interaction ❤

To my last comment, basically hockey stick is an extreme example. The center of the face is way off of the shaft, so you gotta support the golf club like you would support hockey stick when you hit it.

I can just hear Sam Snead saying from high above, "Finally, someone gets me!" Video request: how the toe of the golf club is supported through the hit, what kind of forces you have to apply. Since the sweet spot is eccentric from club shaft, it has to be supported, otherwise face goes open. Probably a reason a lot of people dont get club face closed, because this is one of only sports where the strike is not in line with the shaft.

@ericdehnert3779
@ericdehnert3779 9 месяцев назад
I it’s my biggest issue right now, I’m supporting the shaft how I should, but haven’t trained by brain how to support the club face with torque in my hands. Sort of how you hear people saying twist the club through impact, but I don’t want to flip the club face, I want it to still be stable.

Ive just stumbled on your channel and now going through the rabbit hole. Great content! I asked this question elsewhere but i wanted to get your take on this. I’m starting to experiment with my wrists at address. Do you promote left wrist ulnar over radial at setup? Should i even be focusing on the left or should i focus on the right wrist? And is that wrist setup the same throughout the bag? (For context i have a bit of a strong grip, left thumb just slightly right of the middle of the shaft)
@elitegolfschools
@elitegolfschools 10 месяцев назад
Good question... proper grips at address will have some amount of ulcer in both the lead and the trail wrist. The amount of internal or external rotation in either arm is what denotes the amount of 'strength' or 'weakness' in each hand at address. Neutral grips will have roughly the same amount of internal/external in each arm at address, in essence, they mirror or counter one another in order to make them 'neutral'

You knew I would be all over this one. I never understood how GG got any traction from forcing his students External on the lead Femur? The Core (Rib System) acts on the adjacent upper & lower supporting systems! Obliques and Lats work the Pelvis and the Pelvis provides support for the Internally wound Femurs. The Sacrum Falls toward the lead Heel that re-plants forward of where it started. In this action the Right Drafts nicely Behind the Left. Get that right and the whole system becomes a Slingshot. Great stuff Gents..
