“That’s the golf swing!” What a very thorough, detailed, but simple explanation and demonstration! Outstanding! 👏👏. This video is gold and is a must watch for young golfers who are learning the swing and how the hands should move during the swing! Thanks so much for putting together and for sharing. 👊👊

Thank you for the CLEAR understanding of how the hands works! A part of the swing that would change for me with every shot because I really had no idea how the hands work . Now to get this into a system that works with the timing of the body . I love the small chunks or parts of the system . Work on them , then apply to the whole part. Great stuff !

Another home run video. Not sure, but it could be a little misleading and require just a little explanation regarding how-when the trail wrist goes into it's fullest point of extension while the clubhead goes through these shapes. That is, I feel that the trail wrist goes into fullest extension inactively (during the process of the club shaft goes from vertical towards horizontal). So it starts deepening extension reactively as the club's center of mass falls back below the backswing's swing plane AND reactively goes nto a bit deeper extension as the club falls further behind the back (while shaft completes getting to that "cuts the upper body in half"visual). Furthermore, after "getting cut in half" I feel the supination is reactive-inactive also and that the trail wrist inactively-reactively reaches its full extension upon the supination going as far as it needs to in order to let the clubhead fall enough so it can reach the ball. Lmk if I am misunderstanding anything here - or if this is just my own personal way of doing-feeling. I can tell you that I am flushing it dependably with my manageable misses being a bit leaky-right which I understand now to be from over-supinating a bit - but a FAR more manageable miss than my old overcooks to the left!

Doing it lifting it up first and then the right wrist back before the shoulder turn I was hitting beautiful full shots but marrying it with a shoulder turn without setting the wrist first is a little difficult. Probably gonna take some time eh? I'll play setting the wrists 1st if I got to!!

This may be the best video yet! My question is how much lead arm supination you want in the downswing? Thinking of David Love Junior's old hitchhikers drill.
@elitegolfschools
@elitegolfschools 7 месяцев назад
The lead arm will supinate but waaaaay late. Preference is after P6 👍👍👍 also we prefer to see more external rotation of the lead humerus as a result of several forces occurring that leaks into lead supination from P6 onward 👍

This is a terrific video and clears up numerous misconceptions i had about my hands and arms in my back and forward swing. For 30 years i have felt like i had no clue how my hands and arms should work. I took your ideas to the course and hit some irons like I have never felt before, ball first, thin divots and good ball flight. And a feeling at impact I cannot explain. My only error was i had a tendency to hit straight push shots with longer clubs No fade, just straight push . Any idea? I checked my alignment and my divot is pointed slightly right. Wish this video existed 30 years ago.....

What you are showing appears to me like you are describing a two plane swing. I use pretty much a one plane swing. Back and down with my right elbow moving in front of my right hip . The club does drop some causing the shaft to bisect the right forearm on the down and the face is square to the arc (per video). Am I losing some clubbed speed because I am not letting the club head drop in the manner you are describing? Maybe we are doing the same thing with different concepts. I watch two plane swings by very good golfers and the two planes are often very close to each other much like what I do. I tried doing what you suggest and I had difficulty controlling the direction of my ball flight. I am really reticent to change this part of my swing when what I do works so well for me. Thanks for your response.

@Chris_Traynor 7 месяцев назад
Loved how you explained the hands releasing via supination being similar to ulnar deviation, but with the difference being that the wrist is already in extension. All super well explained. I think the biggest challenge for me when working on this movement is having a sense of where I am getting my hands and wrists to through impact. Arguably it is not something one needs to think about however, if I'm practicing these wrist/hand movements but leaking balls right and left for reasons such as having the face slightly too open/closed it is hard to mentally trust the movement. The analogy I would give is that you have expertly described a route to take preceding impact but before a student has managed to execute that movement correctly and feel a solid contact and decent ball flight it is hard to truly gain the full feel/trust in the movement. I can commit to making these movements but loose contact, or conversely force contact by disrupting this movement slightly, so a feel to be moving towards in this way would be really useful. For example, the sorta so-called 'slap release'. Any suggestions on this??

Great video but I have an anatomy knit pick - the head of the radius (or radial head) is at the elbow. The radial head rotation is the joint that allows for pronation and supination. -- Also a way to remember "pronation" is to lay "prone" is to lay face down.

Funny thing how camera angles work. I was trying to figure out the hands based on a previous Angular Momentum short by Riley, but I couldn't get it. Then, boom! Alex twirls his club off-handedly at 0:56 and I get it. EGS has done it again.

One of my biggest issues is not hinging vertically, then to get the club up I end up lifting my trail arm...gets everything out of wack. In this exercise, you turn and then hinge, but I feel like I still lift my arm if I don't start to hinge vertically almost immediately? Is there any issue with this to look out for?

@peterlesniewski6675
@peterlesniewski6675 7 месяцев назад
This is really cool. I'm still confused about one thing. How you can supinate the right forearm through impact while making sure the club doesn't stay wide open? It seems that at some point we need to pronate the right forearm to square the club. It can't be all body rotation right?
@elitegolfschools
@elitegolfschools 7 месяцев назад
There certainly is SOME pronation to square the face. No doubt in that. Whether that’s active or passive is what we are really interested in, and for most people, pronation is a passive result of how the club forces operate through impact

Is a video on blending the turn and the shape worth focusing on? It’s shown as two independent movements which is fine in slow mo but not real swings?

@@ducngocducngoc7421 interesting for sure... just know that you can overdo any movement, to the point where pain can arise. I think a good general feel for you is to simply sense that you are tossing the club over your lead shoulder just like you would a bag of apples/potatoes. In essence, once you've arrived to P5, turn the midline to finish and 'toss' the club over your lead shoulder. Should neutralize a lot of that left wrist pain. Keep us posted.
