Unload the SPIRAL for a Powerful Golf Swing Release

Today we dive deep into the UNLOAD PHASE of the golf swing. An important concept that has been requested over and over in the comment section. Thank you for the idea!
While the unload phase is a bit simpler than transition, it still is important for the player to understand what needs to happen through this area to maximize their golf swing efficiency.

So I’ve been kind of thinking about this concept for the last couple of weeks. Correct me if I’m wrong, but essentially you need to start the chest first and then you can “hit” with your hands but if you start your hands before the chest moves, then you’re gonna be whacked out?

Great contents!!! @11:15 .... regarding the arm system unload for the sling effect, I assume this should be applied to all FULL swing (for all clubs), correct? I'm curious about the longer clubs (including a driver). Of course, we need to adjust the position of the ball, but do we need to do the arm system unload a little bit sooner for longer clubs (especially for a driver)? Thanks.

P9, P10 is where its at. Sure it can be screwed up many ways, but giving yourself direction/permission to go there is huge. I would even suggest making a few swings starting @ P10 and go ahead and strike the ball. I would do it with as much speed as your system can handle while maintaining rhythm & Balance.

Teaching a throwing swing, is not by positions. Position is just a picture . Way too much going on to play with position golf . You have the lower half of the body is the action. upper is the reaction. You need the ground action to explore . If one does not allow the trail arm to straighten at impact the lower will take care of most all of what needs to be done. That is when you really really fully let go and club will snap release. It is in the ground forces . You don't get a 169 mph clubhead speed by position golf.

Absolutely mushing the ball center face. I can finally feel what a good strike feels like and the clubface feels so straight. However, my miss is now a wipe fade. Does that mean I'm coming in too steep? What drill should I practice to keep that club more shallow and keep those baby fades?

At 8:55 Riley demonstrates the desired chest rotation as just a chest move and then at 9:15 Riley shows it again but (to me) it seems like a pelvis driven move. Can you help me understand a little better why the two look so different and which one (or perhaps what) should we be trying to actively make happen in our swing to unload the spiral? Many thanks for all the super info. Riley, I am coming to see you in CO in a couple of weeks.
@elitegolfschools
@elitegolfschools Год назад
Tom can't wait to see you stud! When you see these differences you're seeing the dropping of the pelvis which begins to open the pelvis up. The arm and club system is still going up and away as the drop happens so it appears that the pelvis is actively rotating when it is not.

This may be one of the most influential golf instructions I've ever seen. I have struggled with "the transition" a long time. But after watching this, and thinking about it, I've come to the conclusion (and the feels seem to bear it out, but I'm very early into exploring this) that the tempo of winding up the spiral is very important. Just enough impetus to get the club/arm unit all the way to the top, but not so much as to keep it from a feeling of almost floating as gravity starts to overcome the impetus. Just as it's "cresting", or slightly before, I feel freer to make the pressure shift, because I "almost have nothing" in my hands. The unit then falls, and I'm already rotating, now loaded. Am I even barking up the right tree, here? This feeling seems to let me start the pressure shift just before the impetus crests. I have never been able to accomplish that very well, or at all, really, before thinking about it this way. When you see a pro go into the shift before the arms stop going up, it looks like they are doing two things at once. But they are not, right? They're just actually waiting for that passive club/arm unit impetus to crest, before doing one thing, and that's getting the body going the other way. It seems that is actually a confusing illusion (two things at once), because they've "already done the impetus part" (loading the spiral), which gets the arms and club up. They're no longer focused at all on the turn, or elevation, because it's done. They've supplied just the correct amount of spiral impetus to get it done. Not too little; not too much. All focus can then be on the pressure shift and unloading.

I've got an interesting question. So, unloading makes a lot of sense, but what does "braking" feel like? I think I'm just going a bit too free through impact a bit too long and over-rotating in the follow-through (Feeling a little bit of uncomfortable lower back - nothing serious but not ideal). I assume there's a "braking" force, somewhere. Like, what I think I'm doing is either 1) Swinging too hard or 2) not using the right muscle group to stop the momentum of the club. Like, I'm not doing/feeling ANYTHING to stop the club just kinda, letting it take me and that feels maybe wrong.

It seems that Your system has the potential that it is no more necessary to study thousands of golf tips and fixes on YT. But in terms of the engine I have a question. The torque of the upper body is a power source but also the "dropping" combined with squatting, internal rotation of left knee and "backfiring" of the left leg. This drives at the end the torso or is this understanding wrong ?

Refreshing to hear so much emphasis put on “you as an individual”. I fell into a rut after watching a bunch of instruction tailored towards better players. They all tend to get too “slidey”, so a big emphasis is put on rotation for them. Meanwhile, I get absolutely 0 shift towards the target so that feel caused me to spin out even more. It makes sense because you are watching elite-level teachers, but I’ve learned that there is no blanket instruction in golf. Very refreshing to hear this!

I appreciate the explanation of the dynamics along that the feel may be slightly different for individuals. My most recent feel is not having to feel stacked favoring my lead foot and more of a centered rotation with weight more forward. Now I am feeling somewhat flat footed with better width and depth by loading the spiral. The unload is more automatic and more fluid. Misses are better, flushers are mid high ball flight. The kettlebell, medicine ball or dumbell drill with arms in front is a huge benefit to train the movement for me. Going to try the rope drill! Face management is way better. When I fire to early the hands go and the shot is fat or I early extend. Resulting in a block/Push.

I finally have a better sense of what all those people who hit it so far...are hitting it so far. I could see that high left swooshing but had no idea how they got there. Thank you!

Great job of adding a bunch of unnecessary complexity to an already complex physical task. I mean, you guys really have on full display exactly why people play golf for decades and never get better. It's because 99.8% of all golf instruction (including this channel) is completely ineffective. I missed the part where you gave any sort of useful information or explanation that could possibly help golfers who struggle. Maybe your instruction could refine a golfer who was already a great ball-striker, but that's pretty much it. Here's an idea. Why don't you refund all the money you took from people who came to you for help, because I bet their handicap is still just as high as when they paid you. 😂

Jeff, appreciate the input. I do assure you that we are only looking to help people play better golf. If you find this channel ineffective for you, I advise you to move on, and have a wonderful life. Hit them well!

Another fantastic nugget of information! Quick Question: what is TJ's natural flight pattern? Fade, Draw, high, low? Thx, guys!

This is excellent. You nailed me. I must confess that I’ve got that map in my mind that I’m supposed to “hit” the ball by having the energy of the arms and hands release at the point of contact. I went out today and instead tried to focus on dropping and letting the engine of the arms go first without worrying too much about the hands fulcrum. What happened? I ended up hitting one of my best 8 iron shots ever! I appreciate your channel and videos because you explain things in a way that resonates with me. Great use of technical/biomechanical terms with physical demonstrations of what to do and why. Thanks guys!! Onward and upward! Or better yet- up, drop, engine, sling!!😊🏌️‍♂️
