new series idea: Guess the MMR

Hey Grubby, how about this for a new series? "Guess the MMR!". You spectate a WC3 game which somehow gets chosen for you blind, and find a way not to see the MMR in advance (Maybe block out your screen or something?). Then your goal is to watch the whole game, and guess both players MMR within a range of about 50. If you're close, you win! If you're far off, you lose!

I really like that you are checking in with some new players and evaluating their game. It's very instructive, and a natural expansion of the Bronze League Heroes series. Love it ❤

I checked out your channel and saw you had like 3-4 episodes of bronze league heroes posted. I loved sc2 bronze league heroes stuff so I was so hyped, I loooove these videos man!! Your videos are so educational and your thoughts on why things are done the way they are are so clear. They really bring the chaos of what's happenin on my screen to order. Reminds me of when i started playing dota2 in 2013. Learning is fun :)

I searched for this Korenir guy on w3champions and could only find an account with 2-2 stats and no record of playing against the undead guy in this video. Weird. His first game at 1500 mmr was against a completely different player.

BLH has gotten me back into online WC3. Ive been trying hard to make solo Dreadlord because he has my favorite ult. So far Ive lost all the matches Ive played, thank you Grubby!

Honestly, the MMR placement should take into account indicators such as use of hot keys, apm, etc to land you roughly where you need to be.

given that ~6k+ bnet is usually around 1600-1700 w3c, ~1250 w3c/low 5000s bnet is my guess on the orc

one thing I like about bronze league is it lets Grubby talk way more then when he's playing a demanding game like wc3, same reason I like watching him play Slay the Spire on Stream lol,

The MMR issue is also really rough for new players in League of Legends. The game insists on placing new accounts in low Platinum, which is roughly in the top 40% of players, even though most new players would face a great hurdle crossing out of the bottom 40% of players. The system was not like this before. When I started playing, I was placed in Silver and I only reached Platinum after having played actively for over a full year. Seeing new players excited to hop into ranked nowadays is a bit disheartening since they will have to play so many games where they will lose, most likely because they are a burden to their team or, if they win, it will most likely not be because of their own contributions.

Why are the graphics Classic, but the Heroes shown in Reforged graphics? Haven't seen that before?

To help illustrate what Grubby said about why MMR can't just start a person at Bronze, imagine that instead of starting at 1500, someone starts at 900 (the 'bronze" area of W3C). If Player A starts at 900, matches against bronze players, and consistently wins, then naturally they go up. Player B, the actual bronze player, loses MMR and goes down. And as more bronze players lose, the average MMR of bronze continues to shift down until, say, 500 MMR and that becomes the new bronze. Also, IMO 1500 is a high enough number that it allows better matchmaking within ranks. Let's say W3C first starts matching at a 2 MMR difference between players, and then every 20 seconds that increments higher by 10. So someone who is at 900 matches an opponent who has either 898 or 902. And as time goes on, it slowly expands, and eventually a match is made. Right now on W3C, 980 is right on high bronze/low silver, 520 MMR below the starting 1500. If our starting MMR was instead 900, then maybe 540 is bronze, and at around 600 is the high bronze/low silver point, 300 below the supposed 900 starting MMR. So the 'lower' start results in more lopsided matches because every 20 seconds the search range expands, but the 10 MMR it searches for is a wider skill gap compared to the original 10 MMR when the start is 1500 vs 900. tl;dr - MMR starting point is fine on W3C, it would technically be fine at any starting point because it fixes itself as players play and bronze players would still lose 10 matches straight to reach the bronze level, and starting at 1500 instead of a lower also leads to healthier long-term matchmaking. I think the only problem with W3C is that if you're on a losing streak and you're doing placements, after a certain point you should lose points a bit faster. I lost more than 10 straight matches when i started on W3C, but it only put me at 1200 and actually slowed down my loss of MMR, meaning i had to lose even more to get to where i belong. Considering that I'm just starting competitive WC3 (and thus should be bronze), it should have definitely tried to put me at a lower level faster than it did.

Orcs really are OP at low mmr. They got bats that are insane, because low mmr loves air units (easy mobility and easy focus) and they got the best heroes in game, plus auto cast spellcasters, and easy defense with burrows.

I have installed w3c but once it started wc3 the game keep telling me that I need to login to w3c with my bnet account but I just can't do that anywhere on w3c nor on wc3...When I try to play versus online it's bnet by default... Any help?

WC3 Reforged cureently has (2) themes. Might as well make it (3) and re-reforge it with cleaner classic graphics. Would be epic to use ray tracing for shadows from sunrise to sunset, etc...

I have a good build order for each race and good start to mid game, but my micro is average a bit better then bronze. But my micro for the keyboard to click back to bases suck. Could you make a video on how you set your hot keys when you play or just a general set up on hot keys.

Korenir's micro and tactical decision making were off, good macro and overall strategy though. This makes the range of possible MMR pretty wide, from 1350-1600 mmr, I'd personally guess on the lower end of that.

Does he read comments on you tube? I will try anyway. Grubby, I am being watching your videos for a whole, they are really fun. Also to learn a bit more I was watching you playing the reforged campaing and noticed that the undead campaing just STOP, so there is no video for the siege of dalaran and under the burning sky. As a player weaker then the bronze heroes with 0 wins and 13 loses on battlenet, I am having a hard time on Under the burning sky campaing on highest difficulty and would like to see, if possible, you playing it and win by destroying all 3 dalaran bases instead of time. That cousl teach me a few tricks to use as undead without lich, since I dislike lich as hero (just dislike him, I knwo hwo powerful he is)

Well, you can change elo system. For starters, a simple question on how experienced you are which lands you to specific bracket would solve most of the problem. But humans would rather do nothing than to come with incomplete solution.
