@@_r0n1n15 It's because people are trying to whiff punish an attempted throw or button press. Sometimes by standing there, you give the opponent an opportunity to randomly throw you, basically making you unsafe by forcing yourself to guess when YOU have the advantage. You're trying to get a CC opportunity when you shimmy an stuff but yeah, no harm in sitting there after taking a meaty that is blocked. The pros give the impression that you should always be shimmying.
I remember an episode of excellent adventures where Justin Wong told Gooteks playing as Rose against a Geif that he was to treat a specific tree in the background as though it were the edge of the world. Gooteks had walked himself to the corner and got mixed up in the first round. Justin was like you are not walking back past this tree. Throw your soul sparks, if he tries to walk in use roundhouse, if he jumps DP, or AA button. But fundamentally you're not moving from this spot as a way of training Gooteks not to do this. It worked.
i remember when i used to back up a lot and play super defensive. I can't tell you how many matches i gave my opponent space and got put in the corner. Sometimes, I've had a significant life lead on my opponent and decided to back up and be calm, while playing defensive. Sadly a lot of those matches have led to my opponent getting an absurd comeback on me. Lesson learned, take up as much space as i can from my opponent, so that way they can take risk and make mistakes on their own.
I'm totally guilty of this. Vega has such a good walk back speed, and no invincible reversal, so I tend to walk back a lot. Problem is... I put myself in the corner, where Vega is as his absolute worst! I started working on this problem, but it's a really tough habit to break.
"walk forward??? but that's where all the hitboxes are!!!" lol this is _definitely_ one of my biggest flaws (i barely EVER play online but ive been stuck in Silver since like........ 2016, i think? ive never even gotten to super silver lmao maybe like once for a few matches) and im very thankful that you laid it out for me, @Brian_F !!!!! as soon as i finish learning Alisa in tekken im gonna go right back into SFV and try walking forward more with my main e.honda, maybe throwin out a few counterpoke medium punches, crouching light punch and the odd forward+heavy kick (after getting better at anti-airing with standing heavy punch first, of course)
I like this explanation, this also helps me. I constantly use mids on my opponents on their wake up and they always get to walk back and reset neutral. Ima try incorporating lows on my meaties. Great Video Brian! :D
I legit learned something. I feel like MY actual defense is lacking in this game. I was too busy overlooking the fact that I was beating myself. Thanks, maybe I'll ACTUALLY give SFV a chance, but with this advice.
5:00 - well put. I hate how people say "just go get your ass kicked, that's how you get better" - there's a cap on it. I got washed by AC Slayer in 3S for HOURS, guy beat me 70 wins to my 4. Used every character. I learned a little, but nothing like I would playing somebody who was just a little more competent
"People watch Karin win every tourny and say SFV has no neutral" Yeah, you're not wrong lmao. Real talk, I know the game has neut, but the pacing of it isn't my cup of tea.
There's a lot of rose-colored glasses out there for SF4 these days. People forget the unblockables and vortexes built on multiple layers of offensive option selects. Getting knocked down meant you just lost in a lot of matchups.
inlemur sf4 certainly had its fair share of shit. But it had 2 major saving graces: 1. Not all matchups were vortex heavy and the ones that werent tended to be some of the best streetfighter ever available... watch daigo versus valle ryu mirror. Not everything was fuerte versus fuerte. 2. Your skill could still outshine a vortex. Most vortex characters had sub par footsies and neutral and generally needed to beat you at neutral to get the party started, which keant alot of times you could beat them without them even having a chance to win. In sf5 the game plays great, when punk is playing or when its some player in the top 500 online (or tournie) rankings. But outside of that the game is a shitshow. Also brian is disengenuous in his statement. People arent watching “karin” win, they are watching punk win. The dude has amazing wiff punishes no matter what character hes using. Outside of punk no karin was getting top 8. And dont mention bonchan or phenom.. neither was doing anything with her before copying punks style and neither can with her solely.
@@dimex3362 You hit the nail on the head there about character choices. The worst thing you can do for yourself if you want to win competitively is choose a character based on how someone else uses them. If you do that, the best you can ever do is be a good copy. You want to command a character where you can say "I did that."
@@dimex3362 I suppose if you move enough goalposts that's an accurate assessment. Seems frankly ludicrous to me to discount Bonchan by saying he copied Punk when only one of the two has won evo.
Holy sh*** I put all this stuff into practice, coupled with two hours in the lab....2...(I come from a fighting game background(kof series), so ) and I just had a 16 win streak...dayum
Man, you just analyzed a big problem I have. I never knew why I walked backwards so much. I get hit low a lot too.. Your explanation makes sense. Thanks again coach!
The walkback she was doing here is actually quite good if you use it well. Crouch block the first hit, microwave back, and go back to crouch block. This helps avoid throw mixups and if you're ready gives you a chance to punish a player who's not paying attention to that.
yo what's up bud been a while, been outa the scene for a while but i got my shit together and I'm back, glad to see you're still going strong, wish i knew more about what i was doing during our sf4 days when i first came down to Fl lol your rog was damn good, anyway what are your thoughts on the new characters coming out, anyone you want to see make the cut?
Great video! Hope to see some tips for those who stuck in ultradiamond/master ranks, because right now I'm in there and I still think that I suck at this game, but it's really hard to tell sometimes what exactly am I missing to move forward
If you are in that rank area you already better than majority of players. Lol including me and imma Silver who fights higher level players in diamond and highest was master. You play an entirely different game than my own ranks. So feel proud enough to say you are good cause its lesser players at the tops from ultra diamonds to warlord than below. Just time and points keeping you there and refining what you already know and improve it. Good luck bruh...imma try to get out of silver....i been lazy and just fighting and bother beating and losing to higher ranks but its all for experience and learning. Now i can blast through my own. Muahahahahaah!! Lol
Brian_F... I live in Hawaii, and I have a 300Mb per second internet connection, yet I can't find many matches that have 4 or 5 bars. The online experience is a nightmare. Either the guys teleport, or they interrupt me during my frame traps. It is frustrating, because I am a big fan of the game, and truly enjoy offline play with friends. But Covid and a lackluster online experience really put a damper on growth
I played a lot of matches yesterday with R.Mika and I’ve noticed I allow jump ins to often when I have crouching medium punch to contest cross ups 😂. Need to work on that my patience, mix ups, and meaties. I stupidly throw stand heavy punch and its like it goes straight through the opponent or at least it did while playing practice mode.
I'm curious to know what you think the properties are that make a move a gimmick or gimmicky? Is it something not real that you have to respect anyways?
you should never ever miss a dp aa even online. u should practice it against poison qcb lk special move and get that input to at least 5 frames from a downback position
Excellent advice! Just curious, if you were playing Guile, who requires a charge to be most effective, when and where do you suggest would be the best time to move forward?
I would suggest charging in between buttons kind of like how Brian said to walk backwards in between buttons. And don’t always charge they give guile and his clones good normals in almost every game they are in.
I play a gief and I'm in gold but scrubby. People are always either walking away or back dashing on wake up. Once I identify this is their go to tactic what should I do in response?
I feel like charge characters suffer from this more than other characters since uk we have to charge to do basically everything...any tips for us that use charge characters like when is the better times to actually priotize charge over just controlling space(Bison main btw)😂
Holding backwards while crouching/jumping counts as charging. You don't move backward while crouched and you can charge while in animation like forward dashing or fireball
I find it hard to rank up i was in ultra bronze half away to silver and now thrown back into super I hate how I get matched with ultra bronze should I just spend more time in casual and learn more
I wonder if a good amount of people will still play this game once 6 drops. Guess it depends on the quality of 6, but I can’t imagine this game gaining a cult following similar to 3s. Or to a lesser extent, 4.
This “habit” is actually one of the most annoying things about sf5. You HAVE to go low to call this out and low strings are generally very bad/low damage/dont KD from range which is why so many players abuse this movement strategy/pattern.
He lost the first game against that Karin but won all sets(4 in total was it?). Once he figured the Karin's tendencies and the Karin didn't adapt it was over. Platinum players generally have a pretty good idea how their own characters work but they are lacking in match-up knowledge and they don't really adapt mid session. So occasionally you can see a platinum player getting away with a win the first time they play someone that's better than them if they just happen to know a little about the match-up. But as they continue to play against the better player they will do worse and worse.
5:00 I thought that you grow more from fighting people your level and lower more often than always fighting people better than you. Trying to do the extreme lifts hungering for gains doesn't help your form or give a healthy progression, so to speak.
Walking back too much lead to losing game most of the time I would like to do some set and learn Mr Brian f let me know pls (urbaneddy ) that my fight iD have an nice one
These clickbait titles are veeeeeeeeeeeery annoying. You gotta cut that shit. I might give your channel a few more shots because at least you give some info on what we actually click on the video for in the description. I get that you are trying to make us watch more of the video for ad revenue. I respect the hustle. But meet us halfway here; at least give timestamps for when you actually get to your point.
