Demian I Totally agree, unfortunately Sin City was made by Miramax, who are owned by Disney, and Disney don’t support 4K Blu Ray for library titles so it’s unlikely. The best hope is they license it to another distributor for 4K UHD disc.
@@colinbooth531 but there not the 4k versions, thers lots of films re done to 4k that dont look much better than there standard definition (HD) counterparts that why i said "colour grading" because thats where i think films like Sin city will shine if done right because i dont think the 4k resolution uptick will ad anything new to film like sin city, its just how it is with the way certain film are made.

Agreed! The high amount of grain is Definitely the way it was filmed and intended. I remember seeing this in a drive in theater (believe it or not) and even on that screen the grain was obvious. And yes the Blu-ray is extremely grainy as well. Personally, I think 300 Rise of an Empire was a much better looking film.
Another movie that I would like to see in 4K UHD that used a similar production style is Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. It was released three years before 300.
After 4 weeks, I finally got my copy of 300 4K Steelbook. My local Best Buy never got it in when it came out. Went to another store, they were out. Then the BB online store was out of it. Even had an online chat with a BB rep and he said demand was high, and none in the system, but to keep checking. That paid off, Got an email from BB yesterday saying my store had 2 copies. Zoomed up there and picked one up. Finally.
The reason 300 kicked off that "style" of filming is because the movies you named are all based on Frank Miller graphic novels. Those GNs all have a similar aesthetic so the movies followed suit after 300 was successful. Love the channel!
I love this movie and couldn't wait for the 4K, already preordered. Not a fan of "grain" but hopefully between the atmos and my love for the movie ... I won't be disappointed. I got part 2 in 3D as well :)

The artificial grain they added to blend the effects with film elements surpassed the natural 35mm grain, I think. Not a positive or negative thing. Glad to hear the atmos track is good!

Yes. I remember these same comments about 300s grain when HD-DVD demos were being criticised. The grain is supposed to be there and serves an artistic purpose. I suspect it's a simulation of the offset printing dot separation you would see if you look very closely at the original source material Comic Books and Graphic Novels.

And then you would think that someone would start thinking and stop collecting for good, but nothing could be further from the truth. I sold part of my collection to pay off my debts, and then just started collecting again. Collecting is just an addiction, and it's always hard to get rid of an addiction. Now, years later, I have developed a great aversion to collecting. I know what it can do to people and also that it doesn't get you anywhere. I watch a film once or twice, and never again after that. So why should I buy that movie original if I can also download the same movie in the same quality? You buy such a film original, watch it once or twice, put it in a bookcase, and there it is standing there without any sense. A collection also takes up a lot of space. My whole house was full of DVDs and Blu-rays. When I had come to repentance, I suddenly started to get irritated. I felt restless because I saw DVDs and Blu-rays everywhere I looked. I started to realize that this is not normal. I also began to realize that collecting never ends. In this case, there are dozens of new movies coming out every month, and if I continued to collect, at some point I would run out of space to store them. What was I doing? I now prefer to spend my money on things that I can use every day for years to come. I recently bought a soundbar, just to give an example. I never had money for this kind of stuff in the past, because all my money was spent on collecting movies. In hindsight I regret that very much, I should have known better.
@@WayStedYou No. Maybe it had some weird festival premiere in 06...but this movie was released in March of 2007. Go to IMDB, check the "releases" section. Every market outside of a premiere at the "Austin Butt-Numb-A-Thon" was in 2007. No other film ever gets logged according to when they had a festival premiere. It always goes off of their proper public release.This is a 2007 movie. Every market had the film released in 2007. Only people who just go to IMDB and assume that year is correct think 2006 was the real release year.
I bought mine from an eBayer: Skunkmonkeys, they were super fast on shipping and the follow up by C/S was a pleasant surprise! I needed 2 cases, one for a 3 disc set and one for a 5 disc set.
Movie is cool. But not my favorite. My Blu Ray is sufficient for me. Picked up another 160 movies at two dollar stores today off your last dollar store video. Lol. I have picked up around 300 films so far based off your videos. 👍
Doesn't matter if they shot it on 35mm. It's most likely just one layer.... Only the master format counts, I think is digital. So no way to rescan 4k because they should still remake the whole editing process just to make a real 4k version. If there is 35mm stock with the finished movie, it's just a copy from the digital master for cinemas with no D cinema projection.
No, it couldn’t be released as a “true 4K” because there is no source higher than 2K to draw on. They would have to remake the movie - go back to the original film elements, re-render the backgrounds and visual effects and recomposite everything.

300 rules!!! With movies today I wish Hollywood wasn't so afraid of CGI. Personally as a CGI looks much better than practical effects if done by the right companies like ILM. They can make aliens look like real aliens like real breathing characters as opposed to a guy in a rubber suit that looks like a guy in a rubber suit. But because of all these sjws and purest we're getting effects that just on up to par in my opinion but what they don't seem to realize is that these movies that they think is all practical effect is mainly all CGI. And then they talk about movies like The Phantom Menace for example which has the most models Miniatures sets and practical effects out of all Six Star Wars movies Disney crap don't count. Pisses me off when they say it's all CGI it's not the CGI was done for the compositing and some of the characters everything else is practical and it blends perfectly and completely holds up to today's standards in fact I think it looks better than today standings another percent photo-realistic. But I'd love to see more stylized movies like 300. It's too bad the second one sucked. I can't stand these purists but have no imagination 300 has to be one of the most unique films ever made. And one of the coolest looking
I wish I would've waited for reviews to buy this. Years back when this movie came out on 1080 TV's this movie was eye candy 1080p GOLD. This 4k transfer looks horrendous. I mean the 1080 version on a 1080 TV looks 10times better which blows my mind. Crazy thing is the menu to this movie looks A1 but that's about it lol. Just glad I decided not to splurge on the steel book version 😅 😂🤣
I don't mind grain as long as it isn't intrusive. Heavy grain really annoys me, makes the film look worse, I'll still pick this up at some point though 😂
What was a stand out on the blu ray is a stand out in 4k but just with the added HDR. I think this movie is intentionally a little drab looking otherwise.
I really didn't like the 4k transfer of this film. I like the movie but this looked terrible on my 8k QLED. I'm generally not a fan of this high contrast, bleached look with colour filters. I expected it to be rather grainy but it was so heavy it obliterated any fine detail in the picture, and I thought it was dark and lifeless overall.
If you have Dolby Atmos Reciever and 4k player. Do you need to buy atmos speakers? I have a very Nice 7.2 Surround sound system. Im only curious cause the receiver says its playing,and I think it sounds really good,But my question is. Am I missing out on the Atmos sound without an upgrade to speakers??
I think you mean you have a 7.1 setup...what you need is precisely a 7.2 setup (height speakers (atmos) that go on top of your 2 front speakers, that shoot the audio to the ceiling), or you need a 9.1 setup (7.1 setup plus 2 more speakers (atmos) installed directly to the ceiling, shooting the audio down)...
The last time Zack Snyder made a good film. Then again, you didn't have to think with it so it was hard to fuck it up, like he has everything since 300. And if this upsets you, you aren't a real DC fan or understood Watchmen outside of the pretty pictures.
I’m not an expert but It seems 300 wouldn’t suffer from DNR-ing it. It’s such a stylisch movie that it should be grainfree. But maybe not. I don’t know.
I don't think we can blame 35mm for all the grain. It looks like they washed away many details with some heavy DNR and then applied artificial grain - with the purpose of achieving a certain style and to hide any flaws of the digital effects.
I just ordered this movie today on amazon. I chose to buy it not because it will be a great 4K picture, because I checked online and it found out it wasn't real 4k, but because this movie is a classic. I saw this movie before I went to USMC bootcamp in 2007 and and they showed it to us in bootcamp. LOL. I just want to relive this movie again for nostalgia sake.

Im not buying this one becoz i think its gonna look like Batman vs Superman .just grain u cant see anything .when i saw Batman vs Superman i thought that zack snyder shot this movie in a sand storm in sahara dessert.
It's surprising how a film can look so good and terrible at the same time. Glad i got this with an Apple deal as I would've been furious paying good money for a film that somehow has managed to look worse on 4k than Blu-ray
I was never a fan of this movie. The CGI and bullshit storyline. The end battle was cool but I couldn't get into it. Now if they would have made the movie like a Braveheart style movie with practical effects and no CGI I would have loved it. Only watched it once back when it was released and took the movie back and traded it in on the DVD Unforgiven. 😆
Too bad it wasn't your cup of tea but for me it was an amazing cinematic visual experience as it was so true to the source material. Google some images of the Frank Miller graphic novel 300 and you'll see. Frank Miller himself was involved in producing the movie.
