Will The People Who Say They Love Cinema the Most Come Back to the Movies? The summer blockbuster season proved that the movie audience is still very much there. But where have all the cinema lovers gone?
Inflation is the reason why the box office is struggling, nowadays most ppl wouldn’t want to go out and see a movie anymore unless it’s worth it or an event of some sorts
Inflation and streaming is a big part of the problem, but I'm just gonna put this out there: Another big part of the problem is other people at the movies. Seriously, people at the movies seem to have become worse over the years. Phone users, talkers, people spilling snacks and drinks around them and nobody cleaning it up, and god forbid you have the dreaded family with loud kids. People have just become so inconsiderate at the movies, it makes going to the movies a drag unless you're specifically going to see a movie where you expect everyone to be loud and act up.
Facts which is why I usually wait for a week or two before going to the movies or I just pick a dAy I know most people don't go to the movies and get me an early ticket .
People keep saying inflation, but you underestimate the hand sheer greed has in it. We have a local theatre that makes the majority of its money running old films like LotR trilogy nights and such, because hollywood studios demand like 90+% of ticket sales go to them from the box office for screening rights. That's why concessions are so expensive, because the tickets barely make the theatres any money.
I think inflation has changed the way we see movies. With tickets being as much as $20 now, people prefer waiting to see the movie on streaming services over paying to see it in theaters. Nowadays, your movie HAS to be special if you want it to be a success. That’s why movies like Barbie and Top Gun did so well.
I also think it's due to the fact that this movies are quickly available in streaming services. The amount you spend on movies yearly is probably the same as a yearly subscription.
I think one of the main reasons is studios themselves killing their own movies by having them in cinemas for such a short window. Literally most movies today are on digital in a month or less, training audiences to wait until then because it’s really just a few weeks. Like your already able to watch Twisters at home now and A Quiet Place came out at the end of July. It’s insanity and they wonder why people just wait.
I love going to the movies me and my dad used to go every week checking out new projects, but now most things releasing are piles of dogshit and the ticket prices are high as hell. We would go every week to see a movie, now we've only been to the movies once for Deadpool and Wolverine and it was 50 bucks for the tickets alone.
I used to have Regal Unlimited and it was so cool, instead of going to the movies every once in a while it would instead be every weekend or month. The only time I had to pay for the movies when I had the membership was for Avatar 2 in 3D. And the movies for the membership were all free for a standard format at the cost of 22 bucks a month. But now I don’t have it anymore and had to spend over 100 dollars to go see Deadpool and Wolverine with my family. The other movie that I’ll probably see later this year is Transformers One and Sonic 3, because those ones I’m excited for the most. And it sucks that going to the movies is expensive now, but I mainly just wait for the movie to release either on streaming or on dvd.
I think one of the reasons is streaming. Because of how expensive theaters have become why not just wait a few years to watch on a streaming service. Also just saw Deadpool and Wolverine and it was really good
Movie tickets here cost around only 8 euros hence why I go to the cinema basically every month. When I learned how much movie tickets cost in the US I was genuinely surprised
The ticket prices are also a big part of the problem-ish. America’s ticket prices are more expensive than they are overseas, and some ticket prices overseas are as low as $2-3. However the ticket prices don’t contribute that much to the box office revenue rather it’s how many people go to see the movie. It’s about $1 per person that sees the movie I’ve heard.
This is in naira since I’m from Nigeria but when I go to the theatres in the my local imax this summer the theatres are empty because despite it being august nobody goes there anymore it’s so crazy. Like after I checked the price of my phone imax being 80000 I thought I’d never watch a movie in imax again only to learn that the other theatre’s cost was 7000. I mean no wonder the only way people go to the movie is for big blockbusters when in Nigeria you have to go with 10 000 every time you go the the movies 😢
Yeah, I have the same attitude towards a lot of films too. I go to the cinema's around 2-3 times a year because I'm struggling to find my first job. I saw Deadpool & Wolverine on July 27th and spent just enough money for a ticket because my cinema sold out of the special Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn bucket. But the ticket price alone prompts me to not go crazy on soda, candy and definitely not film exclusive merch, it's just becoming too expensive, and I really do prefer streaming.
To be honest just because of anxiety, i somewhat wish piracy was impossible. So everything could just go straight to streaming/buy online. ("Somewhat" because that fixes a tiny problem, while creating a much, much bigger one)
20 dollars for a movie ticket? Where i live a ticket for animated project is 3-5 Eur and for live action is 5-7 eur, like Deadpool Wolverine cost only 5,30 eur
Honestly, I just go to the movies just be able to watch it when it is first release. I have been movies in theaters for so long that it is becoming a habit of mine. However, I am also starting to feel like I am just wasting my time watching things that I can always watch on streaming. I believe I should I do that for wait for the movie to be available on stream, no matter good nor great it is. I got other things I need to do at home and other things that enjoy more.
I'm going to be honest right now when it comes to Hollywood movies they're expensive beyond anything else why do movies always got to be so expensive especially when people play in them
Honestly idk what the big deal is, I don’t think that movie theaters have gotten too expensive, minus paying more dollars for snacks and drinks but idk, maybe just pack drinks beforehand, when my dad and my brother went to go see alien Romulus, it was only like 30 dollars for drinks and tickets, and that was AMC, so idk why everyone is complaining
Bro AMC doesn’t even have size options anymore. Unless you’re a child you HAVE to get a large because they don’t offer you another choice 💀 food alone costs like $18 now
Its doesnt support filmmakers as well as actual theatres do, also, the reason their so expensive is becuase of those exact same studios selling the streaming service they usually ask for up to 50-80% of the profit made off of tickets, so the theatres are forced to sell expensive snacks and drinks
