I've watched the pesentation with Netageo who translated it in his stream. There are interesting stuff like Bonus games: Unreleased games Saturn Games adapted on Megadrive! 😱 Puyo Puyo Sun didn't exist! Space Harrier II remake! (with Zoom s and 60 fps frame rate:!) I think they said it couldn't even run on the actual hardware.. and other bonuses/surprises.

Shining Force CD is so good. Definitely my favorite in the series especially for the 3rd book which is unique to the game unlike the first 2 which are remakes of the sega game gear games.

I knew it - they screwed us out of MUSHA again... It would have complemented Robo Aleste nicely, especially since they screwed us out of getting MUSHA after the Mega Drive Mini got it. Based on this, I'm also predicting that we'll get screwed out of having a Tower of Power accessory pack too. If Sega of America trolls us again by sending a tiny run to "RU-vid influencers" only, I'll scream.

I actually like Night Trap, but it's already been ported to everything lately. If you want it, there's loads of options to play it. That spot could have gone to anything else and it would be no loss.

Not all computers can smoothly run the recent re-release, though -- my desktop included. I still keep hold of my U.S. and Japan Sega-CD releases of _Night Trap_ -- boxes included -- *and am still desperately trying to nail all the enemies in a perfect run without anything except handwritten notes made by myself.*

For Truxton there's an "option to play the BGM at its original arcade speed." And Space Harrier II has improved sprite scaling. Sure, Streets of Rage 2 is better than SOR 3, and I would have preferred Earthworm Jim CD and Snatcher, but overall this is not a bad selection, considering they're not duplicating any of the titles from the first mini.

The genesis version of Ecco the dolphin was in the Genesis Mini. The Sega CD version is basically the same game with an animated intro and some extra levels.

@@HardPumpers Night Ttap and Sewer shark were never overrated. They were always universally known as bona-fide trash. I only think Sega put those in because they were the only two FMV games that were better than most (which is not saying much at all), and for variety sake, made it a part of the lineup.

There’s some bangers here on the Model 2 but I still feel the Model 1 had a better list of must have’s. I’m glad there’s more SHUMPS this go but also Crusader of Centy is a fantastic surprise.

Yeah that's the one Sega Cd game that's missing (I don't care about Lunar, Snatcher & most of these visual novel rpg games that people don't really play.) that I would've been hype for. I didn't think it'd be there though. It's too violent and would raise the age rating. Even more violent than Mortal Kombat.

With that said, I would've preferred Lunar 1 & 2, Popful Mail & Snatch over Sewer Shark & that other meme garbage Night Trap. It's just I feel that Snatcher and the like are also meme games. The type of games everyone name drops on the internet, but most of the alleged fans don't actually like playing them lol.

No snatcher was expected but no lunar games is very disappointing. Sure I already beat these games on the sega cd but it would’ve been great to have them officially rereleased for this mini console. I’m buying it regardless because I still believe it’s a great package of 61 games for its price but I’m definitely a bit disappointed

I believe they got the rights to Lunar from GamrArts but GameArts don't have the translation. It was done by working design and they are no more sadly. Same for Popfull Mail.

Correct but at the same time its likely SOMEBODY will find a away to HACK the system TO allow the 2 Lunar games to be playable on it IN English I prefer the PS1 versions but even the PS1 Classic Mini ONLY had FF7 and Wild arms 1 as its DEFAULT list of games without finding away to hack it.

What might be adding to the disappointment or meh feeling is the fact that this system has been declared as a limited production. When something is limited and not even possible to get for the rest of the world (outside of usa and japan), we probably expect to be blown away.

While the list might not be exactly what I was hoping for, Crusader of Centy honestly makes the whole unit worth it considering the value of the cart. I'm still honestly surprised that the Lunar games weren't included considering how they are considered defining titles for the Sega CD platform

There are a few omissions for sure but with these type of things it’s to be expected. I do like there are bonus games you can’t get anywhere else coming stock on the system. There is still enough here to make it worth the price of admission.

Space Harrier II is getting a long overdue remaster. I always thought it would be an amazing game if the sprite scaling graphics were just like the original arcade game. Now my dream is coming true. God bless M2 :)

Got a lot of great shooters for my tournaments. Robo Aleste. Ranger X, Lightening force, Granada, Hellfire, Truxton, Elemental Master. For Shooter fans. This is sweet candy. Also the Strategy Games. Warsong, Populous, Herzog Zwei, and Shining Force CD. Deep cuts into a library that took me decades to explore.

Likely licensing issues with a number of them, like Lunar, for thr US market. Snatcher very like Konami saying no this time. The Mini 2 has a wide mix of games in it. Warsong is a strategic RPG wargame. Elemental Master is a vertical SHMUP. Clayfighters was likely demanded to be put on there by those who had the IP.

I actually think it's a way better list than Genesis Mini 1. Genesis Mini 1 had all of the classics, minus Outrun & Afterburner but that's part of why Mini 1 didn't interest me much. Outside of the Konami games, Mini 1 was the same rehashed collection that Sega always releases.

Well, we did expect SOME disappointment. It would've been nice to have the SEGA CD versions of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace, but why go for them, when you can get it on other sources, be it Blu-Ray or Digital. I, for one, am grateful for the lineup. It doesn't make me feel so bad about it.

Elemental Master is actually a REALLY GOOD game. It's a vertical scrolling SHMUP by Technosoft, the same team that brought us the Thunder Force games. One thing unique about it is you run around on the ground so there's no space ship involved. Great graphics, a kick-ass soundtrack, and it's a really good game for people looking to get into SHMUPS because it isn't too difficult. You should play it, you'll probably enjoy it.

To me is an amazing list. Lunar and Popfulmail were never going to happen due to the licensing situation with Working Designs/Victor Ireland. I doubt Sega of Japan would put up extra cash for a limited western release.

The main issue with Lunar and Popfull Mail is that the translation was done by a separate company, Working Designs. They went under years ago and seems that anything they did was bought by Giajinworks and likely would had been an extra expense for something that, as they admit, only will be a tenth of the systems made. Sad as those three where a highlight of this for me, but it still looks like it will be worth it.

The reason why Lunar 1 and 2 are not on the usa Version is victor Ireland didn't want to take just the 1 payment from Sega Japan. He wanted royalties for the games. cj_iwakura wrote, "So Victor Ireland himself reached out to me via DM after I tagged him about the Lunars on the Genesis mini. He said I can't quote him verbatim, but he said that, basically, Sega of Japan aren't offering enough money to make it worthwhile, since they only want to pay a flat fee to get as many games on there as possible without offering royalties, and they're confident it'll sell out anyway, so they're not eager to go overboard more than they have to. (Sadly, they're probably right.) Still, he said not to give up hope, so maybe there's chance. He also says the JP versions would be very labyrinthine for US players, and doesn't recommend them as a selling point. So yeah, uh, maybe telling Sega how much you want the US Lunars would be our best bet..." Daryl Modjeski

I do wonder why does he need so much and could not take the lump sum on something I do not think has had anything happen with it in decades, but I would not be surprised if there is one I am not thinking of.

I'd love to know what kinda money we are talking about here, since these are just emulated, zero work has to actually be done to put them on the USA mini2. Literally dragging and dropping files. Victor Ireland should license it for free just to get the exposure for the Lunar games, maybe even wake up interest in a Lunar 3 or spinoff or hell mobile game.

The Lunar and Popful games are stuck in limbo rn cause their dubs' licensing rights are owned by Vic Ireland. A man who, allegedly, was in talks with Sega about bringing the games over, but either he didn't accept Sega's offer or vice versa, so now nobody gets the dubs now.

The "can't afford the cartridge due to ridiculous secondary market prices" game that I was most hoping for, Crusader of Centy, is on there so I'm not too disappointed by the lineup but I thought for sure that M.U.S.H.A. would also be on there this time so its absence is a bit glaring. Not that I'll likely be getting a Genesis Mini 2 unless they give Canadians a way to order this without having to spend a lot extra on a US proxy remailer since the U.S. Amazon listing doesn't ship to Canadian addresses.

The cartridge games list is pretty impressive. There are many third party gems. You should check Atomic Runner, it's one of the best shoot them up/ run and gun games on the Genesis.

At 4:51 Midnight Resistance I believe was a spiritual sequel to Data East's 2-player vertical shooter "Heavy Barrel". Not only Midnight Resistance ported to Genesis / Mega Drive. But the soundtrack to MR is very impressive !

exactly.. its basically heavy barrel 2. the genesis music is better than the arcade, too. while it's no contra, i liked it a bit better than contra hard corps on genesis. hard corps was... hard! midnight resistance is at least playable and can be beaten. has good arcade feel.

Midnight Resistance is on the Data East Collection 1 for the Evercade. That's probably why it seems familiar. Warsong = Langrisser. Elemental Master is an awesome Technosoft vertical shmup. Killer soundtrack. I really feel that they should have added Dark Wizard to make up for the lack of the Lunar games.

They could've had Sonic 3 & Knuckles on this console but with the Sonic Origins version of the music. Sega should've saved Sonic 3D Blast for Sonic Origins Plus along with Sonic Spinball, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (for outside Japan only) and Knuckles Chaotix.

It's a good package, all things considered, but the ongoing issues with Victor Ireland's massive ego and Working Designs/Gaijinworks is still a massive let down. Sega _needs_ to resolve this dispute with him if for no other reason than to be able to rerelease those games for collections like this, sequels (I've given up hope for those) be damned. Hell, I would be more than happy to pay $100 for a Lunar Collection if the money was needed to reacquire the western distribution rights. In the end its the fans that pay for the squabbling of these parties.

I think Night Trap and Sewer Shark were added for the nostalgic value. They were heavily advertised with the Sega CD. I’m still getting one for my son. He has the 1st mini and plays it regularly.

Yeah, you are right. I remember Sewer Shark sold so well in the USA that it actually became the pack in game with the system if I remember correctly. It is a pretty good FMV game too, I love the Running Man-esque plot and the Danny Devito style character in the cut scenes.

I’m still gonna get the PAL one of these, defo hyped for Alien Soldier, Sonic CD, Final Fight CD and the CD versions of the first 2 Eccos! I would like Snatcher to have been there, but hopefully that’ll get a PAL rerelease through Retro Bit or someone. Retro Bit seemed open to my suggestion for a rerelease of Game Gear Mega Man! Night Trap I’m interested in for historical significance.

I own the mega drive and Genesis mini, and I know they had the region/language option on them. It would change box art and versions of the game. My question is, Would that be a feature on the mega drive/Genesis 2?!? Cause if that’s the case, I would think that the mega drive mini 2 would have the English versions of Lunar 1/2, and PM…which would make the mega drive mini 2 the one to get!

If you pre-order from the amazon japan in the listing you will get it at retail price. This is an amazon exclusive so you actually have to buy it through that link if you want to get it. My guess is after the initial stock runs out at amazon that you will have to buy it from a scalper at a 400% markup as this is what ended up happening with the TG-16 mini, which was also sold as an amazon of japan exclusive item.

I doubt I'd get my hands on one due to production limits, but I'd be happy with a copy of Night Trap. It played a role during the inception of the ESRB, so I feel it has won itself a seat at the history of gaming table. Just my thoughts on that situation. Apart from that, as I'm not big into Sega, a few games do jump out at me as familiar titles but it does seem like a mixed bag overall.

I had absolutely no clue that Puyo Puyo Sun was on the genesis. I knew it was on the Saturn and N64 in Japan but I had no clue it was on the mega drive over there. It’s actually a really cool and unique version of puyo puyo

The reason why the Lunar games are not on the Sega Genesis Mini 2 has to do with Victor Ireland from Working Designs/GaIjin Works. Victor wants more money in licensing costs than what Sega Japan is willing to pay. This is all about money When the Lunar games were originally released in North America, they were considered collector's items. I believe Vic wants the Lunar games to remain high priced collector's items.

Not having the Lunar games on the NA console is pretty disappointing, but I'm really glad to see some of the other titles, like Shining Force 2, The Revenge of Shinobi, and Desert Strike. I was hoping there would be at least one Strike game (Desert, Jungle or Urban Strike), but since they were EA games I didn't think it'd happen. Pleasantly surprised!

Super Locomotive is a dope as heck early sega arcade game that was ported but never released genesis game. It's super technical to play where you have to pay attention to two different views at once. The arcade version used the commercial song "Rydeen" for the soundtrack, but they had to use a remix for this release.

This final list of games is honestly pretty amazing, almost all of the mainstream popular Sega CD games in the USA including the two main FMV games, obscure RPGs like Crusader of Centy, not one, but two Shining Force games, including CD, the Wolfteam and Gau games, missing sequels like SoR3 and Revenge of Shinobi, and just look at all those shooters! Yeah, they didn't have any Konami or Working Design games on there, but outside of that I think they covered pretty much everything else on the Mini 1 and 2. I am super happy with this list at least (O.K. maybe not with Clayfighter, but with everything else).

Didn't Sega state they weren't going to do any repeat titles?. The Japanese repeated Party Quiz Mega Q (culture shock title for us westerners). Ecco the Dolphin CD is a different game from the Genesis cartridge which is RADICAL! I'm glad Space Harrier 2 is a retweak with an increase of the speed. My journey with the Genesis started off with Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection in 2014, and I fell in love with the Space Harrier Arcade bonus title. I later found the Space Harrier 2 game free on the app store years later, and I downloaded it. Not very fun with all the slowdown (and lag), so much so that I deleted it. The OG Space Harrier 2 just doesn't hold up without that extra speed and is just a boring 5-10 minutes wasted.

I respect your opinion but...No way this mini console has anything on the TG-16/Core Grafx Mini. Konami went above and beyond what anybody could have expected or asked of them. The only game they missed was Legendary Axe. Not to mention there was so many secret games that we were still finding them months after release. It's so complete I haven't thought about modding my Core Grafx once but after this Sega list I will likely be doing it to my Genesis 1 now.

The Working Designs rights are owned by Vic Ireland at Gaijinworks. According to someone else in the comments, Sega contacted him about including the Lunar games but he wanted royalties for using the rights instead of taking a single flat payment for the rights like Sega wanted. Personally, I think the window for making money re-releasing games like Lunar and Popful mail is rapidly shrinking, but hey, I don't own the rights to these properties anyways, so it is not my decision.

But Sega could consider to replace these games to other Sega CD titles, like Dark Wizard, Panic!, Eternal Champion CD, Snatcher, Revenges of Reverence, Mortal Kombat CD, or Keio Flying Squadron. I don't see Konami let Snatcher be in the Mini 2, because it's "A Hideo Kojima game", but Rocket Knight Adventures... It was a miss on the first Mini. ☹️

Honestly, it reminds me a lot of the 6-Pak cartridge from way back in the day. Where as the Mega Drive got some really cool games, we sorta got what Sega had lying around, and even then they didn’t go as all out with their own IP’s as they could have. I’m tempted to cancel my Genesis preorder and just got with the Mega Drive.

I’m about on the same page. I was hoping for more Sega CD classics and gems especially because they are not accessible. Most the really good Megadrive games are available digitally even in rom form on Steam and that covers a ton of games (almost 60) on both minis. If they would have only focused on Sega CD and 32X instead of making a sequel to a mini console I would have been thrilled. I loved what the PC-Engine mini did. But of course they had Konami backing them so of course it was awesome. I was hoping to see mini consoles improve after the standard was set higher.
