Black Sabbath were a socially conscious band while the lunatic fringe were calling them Satan worshipers. Their music was so heavy and shocking that a lot of people just ignored the lyrics.
True but we all know that ozzy is a lunatic, man turned up to the audition with a pet shoe 🤦🏽♂️, still makes me proud I grew up just down the road in walsall
There was an interview with drummer Bill Ward where he spoke about playing this live in the US and seeing the reaction of Vietnam veterans to the song. He was still emotional about it all those years later.
I think I saw that! I believe the Veterans in wheel chairs were helped to their feet to stand for the song!!! Shit! I'm tearing up merely Thinking about that! What a moment in Rock - Heavy Rock! and Black Sabbath were the pioneers!
Deep purple was the first heavy metal band my friend. I saw them in 1967, three years before sabbath. But metal took all its roots from the greatest guitar player in history- jimi hendrix. I saw hendrix on 1969 and when sabbath came out we all thought they were just hendrix wannabes. Hendrix is the true originator of metal.
@@gordkolle-bl1ci i don’t agree with Deep Purple cause they weren’t that heavy in their beginnings but i will absolutely agree with you about Jimi Hendrix. He was the greatest guitarist ever and he was pretty dam heavy, but i think Sabbath really kicked it all off. Nobody had Tony’s low heavy sound that made u wanna tear shit up when u heard it before him.
why do you think i dont want to enlist myself or get drafted to war although they are removing the soldiers in afghan I still wont go even if they need recruits
As a huge fan of Black Sabbath, and someone who literally travelled the world to see them live, I ALWAYS enjoy seeing peoples reactions to their music. I have heard this song hundreds and hundreds of times, but it’s always fresh when I look at it through other peoples reactions.
@@williamwallace5857yeah that means if you didn't understand that they weren't using traveled the world as a saying but they really traveled the world to see them, ok? Why comment?
@@shawnasears Right? Like I have virtually traveled the world to see them, videos in from other countries, that guy *literally* traveled the world. That shouldn't be hard to understand.
This is true & what I told them in my comment- You're only scratching the surface. They had tons of songs & if there was never no Black Sabbath. There would've never been no Ozzy Osbourne! The guitar player Toni Iommi is who all metal guitar players looked up to & wanted to play like. Everyone from Dave Mustaine of MegADetH, James Hetfield & Kirk Hammett of MetallicA, Dimebag Darrell of PanterA & many other metal guitarists. Tony Iommi & Black Sabbath created Heavy Metal.
I'm proud that Black Sabbath is English too even though I am American...but I'm sure even the band themselves would say that it's all about moving people emotionally not necessarily nationalism. Having said that I am super proud of those 4 lads from Liverpool who made the biggest impact on my musical life.
@@partimeintellectuals8525 , I agree, but current audiences ( MTV and beyond) are more visual, so in a way the great vid this fan made brings younger people to the incredible talent of Black Sabbath.
I was at Judas Priest show and Qar Pigs played on the PA right before they took the stage. The whole crowd sung along. I've heard them play it live, and it was just as powerful to hear a crowd sing to the recording verses the live profomence.
I was at a Sabbath concert when this happened I had shivers, chills, sweats, tears and the biggest smile on my face. one of the most powerful experiences of my 60 year life if not THE most powerful.
"Politicians hide themselves away, they only started the war. Why should they go out and fight, they leave that role to the poor." "Using people just like pawns in chess" Two amazing quotes from the song. It's an anti war song about Politicians that use people to fight wars for their own gain or for fun. It means nothing to Politicians because they use others and don't fight themselves.
This song was substantially conceived during a time when the Vietnam war was going on... Same as many antiwar songs and performances of that time... You guys should check out Jimi Hendrix's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock, 1969...Another one of those epic performances from those days..👍
Loved the reaction. I am always amazed when people know who Ozzy Osbourne is, but not that he is a living legend, and he earned that by being one hell of a vocalist and performer.
@Old Crow All else fails, you called Dio. Fact of the matter still remains, replacing a lead singer an still selling platinum says... There's someone. RJD
Seriously all bands have an original sound we all love but you really cannot dismiss the work of RJD and Tony Martin he was also outstanding with Sabbath. To your point yes the original is the original but Sabbath post Ozzy was still amazing!
It rehashes the same theme that has applied to almost every war: “It’s a rich man’s war but a poor man’s fight.” If we turned on those fomenting these wars like we allow them to turn us upon ourselves then we could end the cycle..
Love Ozzy, the bands from the sixties and seventies grasped, understood the concept of us in wars we didn't belong in and had no issues singing about it
Each word of the lyrics still rings true even in 2021. The video complimented the song. Good to see people love this legendary rock song, including my 16 year old who is mesmorized by the lyrics and the music.
@@3rdcoastobs467 I was young but what's going on right now feels like the Carter years in the 70s. But hey we got the Orange Man out congratulations America elections have consequences .
Watching you discover this song was so cool. It’s as relevant now as when first came out. One of the few videos that work with the song.

Ozzy had (has) one of the most haunting voices of all time. Remember this song was released during the Vietnam war. While controversial, this music fit the times. A lot of folks never really tried to understand what the band was saying and tried to write off heavy metal as some genre for devil worshipers and conspiracy theorists. You have to ask yourself if this was written today, would it receive the same criticisms. Probably yes, but for different reasons.
The founders of metal music. Black Sabbath all the way. I teethed to their music. THE WAR MACHINE KEEPS TURNING. Never ens. Politicians always make the decision to go to war. Amazing video for its time.
Satan's been coming for a long time, this epic song goes back 50 years or thereabouts, this is what us kiddies in the seventies listened to, mind blowing eh!
Just to let You know @Shawn and Mel Tony Iommi the lead guitarist. Missing the tips of 2 of his fingers. He homemade finger tip covers, after an accident at the Steel Mill he worked at.
My mom grew up in Germany during World War II, and lived under both Hitler and (after the war) Stalin. The emotional scars were with her always, and led to her early death. I think War Pigs, more than any other anti-war song, captures the truly evil nature of war. Especially when Ozzie sings about the people at the top using the people at the bottom--the poor--as sacrificial pawns for feeding their own egos and greed. Thank you for reacting to this!
This was Vietnam Era protest rock. The video is heavily influenced by 1984. As for Black Sabbath, there's a lot to go through, and it's hard to go wrong.
Remember, we were still fighting in Vietnam when this came out in 1970. A little historical perspective; not to reject your interpretation, you're dead-on with that as well!
A classic anti-war song done in heavy metal. Listened to this while in the Navy and at sea off the coast of Vietnam in 1971. Would get high when listening to Black Sabbath this was during the Vietnam War. Helped us to keep our sanity.
I used to drive thought Redmond Oregon in my 68' firebird, cobalt blue black vinyl top black interior slammed in the front shackled in the back. Purple hornies exhaust. Buddies and i just thinking we were so dam cool. Blasting Black Sabbath " Fairies Weir Boots ". In a cowboy town.even though i lived and worked on a ranch myself. I just rounded up cattle on a motorcycle.🤘🤣👍🇺🇸
There was never a video to that song when it came out...way too early for that. The video was made by a fan and I love it! I love that dystopian yet timeless feel to it...CCTV cameras...war never changes, just the weapons get more powerful
First heard this aged around 13, we listened to Hendrix, cream, led zep and the groundhogs, great times. However Sabbath were the first and greatest heavy metal band ever. GOD bless you all ✌
deep purple chaild in time deep purple stormbringer deep purple burn deep purple you keep on moving deep purple soldier of fortune deep purple when a blind man cries
You guys' reaction hearing this song for the first time is the same as my reaction hearing it for the millionth. Music is a beautiful connection between humans.
