Yeah that was the right thing to do take some pictures and release it it probably wasn't very good evening anyway it's better that it makes more halibut for everybody I like the ones under 150 lbs or less better eating nothing huge monsters
I don't know why everybody celebrates the release when there's a 40% chance of this great old fish dying within a week after release. Just so you had your fun. Is that really worth it?
halibut release mortality is far lower than 40%. they arent marlin. better chance of it dying within a week due to being near the end of its natural lifespan considering its size than from being caught.
