The doors weren't a flower power band they were the dark side of the sixties

bulls-eye... they scared the industry. thats why so many of their peers of the flower power summer of love either disdained or discounted the doors. to this day david crosby cant help himself from yapping negatively about morrison.

That's why their music is still around every generation discovers it. They weren't like a lot of bands back then they were not a flavor of the month sound. They're timeless.

Keep in context this song was written during the Vietnam War. The singer, Jim Morrison, like many young people opposed the War. Jim's father was a rear admiral in the US navy and he opposed Jim's lifestyle and many of his beliefs, including the war. Likewise, Jim opposed his father's beliefs and role in the war. So this song represents the generation gap during this time in America, it represents Jim's personal conflict with his father, and it represents America, representing colonialism vs the struggle of Vietnam to seek its own path by pushing other powers out of its country. Like most great songs the lyrics can be interpreted many ways depending on the perspective and values of the listener.

The Doors were among the most controversial & influential rock acts of the 1960s, mostly due to Jim Morrison's lyrics & voice. They had a lot of hits including "The End", "Light My Fire", "Break On Through (To The Other Side)", "Love Me Two Times", "L.A. Woman", "People Are Strange", "Hello, I Love You", "Touch Me", "The Unknown Soldier", "Roadhouse Blues", "Love Her Madly", "Riders On The Storm". Sadly Jim Morrison died in 1971 at the age of only 27 but left a great legacy of music.

I’ve been playing guitar for 23 years, and one thing often overlooked about the Doors is how talented and unique Robbie Krieger was as a guitarist. I can tell you from experience that learning to play Doors song on guitar is not as easy as it looks. “Spanish Caravan” is probably the hardest Doors song to learn on acoustic guitar because Robbie didn’t use a pick, it was flamenco style playing, which takes great skill to master.

Jim Morrison was one of the greatest poets and songwriters at this time. sometimes difficult to understand but a little later everything becomes much clearer and you can understand his thoughts better. Okay, of course it's also because you were very young back then and listened more to the music than to the lyrics - at least here in Germany - later when we learned the English language at school better, the words were more important. "Five to one" was the approximate ratio of whites to blacks, young to old, and non-pot smokers to pot smokers in the US in 1967. It was also the amount of Vietnamese to American soldiers in Vietnam, although Jim Morrison said the lyrics were not political. Also Jim was super drunk when they recorded the original. He died at 27.

Jim Morrison was always an intellectual. He was a poet. He was more than a rock star that took too much peyote or LSD or cocaine. I have all his bios and his poetry books and An American Prayer on CD. Even in his lyrics, Jim was an intellectual. He never wrote "dumb, catchy hooks". He read German Philosophers like Friedrich Nietzsche and Franz Kafka. Jim Morrison is who got ME into reading Nietzsche and Kafka. Jim had a GENIUS IQ of 149. He met Ray Manzarek in UCLA Film School. He was going to be a filmmaker before he told Ray about his poetry lyrics and they formed The Doors. Jim Morrison was amazing. He was definitely more than you see if that falsified movie Oliver Stone put out in 1991 where Stone made up some of Jim's history for "dramatic license". Jim started out with drugs for enlightenment. He'd go out in the desert and just spend the day high as if he were on a spiritual journey. After the Miami Indecency Trial he went to Paris to unwind from it all fully intending to return to the states. He had a phone conversation with either Ray or Robby Krieger talking about how great the L.A. Woman album was coming along and how he couldn't wait to sing the songs live. His death on July 3, 1971 due to a cocaine-induced heart failure just happened to be when he was in a bathtub in Paris.

It's bad enough they can't make their own music. But if they're going to do it or if it is allowed, then they should have to credit the original artist otherwise it is THEFT !
