The Doors were among the most controversial & influential rock acts of the 1960s, mostly due to Jim Morrison's lyrics & voice. They had a lot of hits including "The End", "Light My Fire", "Break On Through (To The Other Side)", "Love Me Two Times", "L.A. Woman", "People Are Strange", "Hello, I Love You", "Touch Me", "The Unknown Soldier", "Roadhouse Blues", "Love Her Madly", "Riders On The Storm". Sadly Jim Morrison died in 1971 at the age of only 27 but left a great legacy of music.

Jim Morrison's charisma shines in that clip. The Doors were a psychedelic blues-rock band from Los Angeles that took their name from the title of the 1954 book "The Doors of Perception" by Aldous Huxley, about his experiences under the influence of mescaline which he took as part of a psychiatric experiment in 1953. Jim Morrison died in Paris at the age of 27. When you're ready for more from The Doors, check out "Riders on the Storm", "Light My Fire", "Love Her Madly", "Soul Kitchen", "Strange Days", "Five to One", and "Peace Frog" along with so many other greats.

Through most of the song, Jim Morrison left off the "s" in "two times," creating a double meaning to the phrase. The lyrics were inspired by both The Doors going on the road and American soldiers going to Vietnam.

Oh man I've loved The Doors for decades. I first saw this live performance on an old VHS tape I bought in the early 80's and I love this performance especially when Jim stares down the lens at 2:28 and grabs your attention for the next 30 seconds. I think he only blinks once before moving his gaze away. Also the way you can see him psyching himself up for the finale at 5:28 onwards. Pure magic.

There is no bad Doors song. I think my favourite is Light My Fire, followed closely by Riders On The Storm, Roadhouse Blues, Break On Through. Their keyboardist, Ray Manzarek really makes their sound, while Jim's vocals and lyrics really cut to the chase.

The Doors studio albums were all crazy good - deep playlist of quality songs. Robby Krieger was one of my initial influences learning guitar back in the day. Hadn't seen this live performance video before - cool! The beginning dialogue has some of the lyrics to "The Wasp (Texas Radio)" off of their last album "L.A. Woman". The movie "The Doors" is also incredible, Val Kilmer doing an amazing portrayal of Jim Morrison (everyone should watch if haven't already seen, hint hint!)

This song was about Jim's wife who also had a boyfriend. Two times was "two timed" but changed. They had an open relationship and Jim was free to hook up with anyone when Pam took off. It was strange dynamic. This clip was also recorded in Europe in an ice cold movie studio in the morning. Jim was still hung over so that explains the stool he was sitting on. Very few live Doors shows were filmed so this is a treasure.

I became obsessed with the doors as a teenager, even though it was decades later. Jim is of another world. He burned so brightly that the world couldn't hold him. He is buried in Paris. When you go to the cemetery in Paris, people write on other people's gravestones the name Jim with an arrow pointing the way to him. His poetry is out of this world. Blues all the way. I just sink into another place when Jim comes on.

I was a teenager when The Doors became popular. I liked them, but also found them very dark. I had a crush on Jim Morrison & his sexy self. But he was usually drunk onstage. He was arrested a couple of times for being lewd onstage. Of course that kind of news made him even more attractive. He was one of the few posters I had on my bedroom wall. Also, the way the story goes -> Linda Eastman dumped Jim Morrison to go on to become Paul McCartney's girl (and later wife).

This song and "Roadhouse Blues" (also by the Doors) are near the top of my list of great driving songs. This live version is cool, but sometime when you have a chance, play the studio version and imagine a wide-open road in your mind. I don't know which of these you've aready reacted to, but more great Doors tunes (yes, Light My Fire, LA Woman, and Break on Through are big hits, but these others are worth a listen): Waiting for the Sun Hello, I love you When the Music's Over The End

Jim Morrison was something else. He started out as a poet. One day a friend suggested he should put his poems to music. He did just that . But, he became a druggie and alcoholic. He was a arrested for indecent exposure on stage. He was so high on stage he could hardly stand. He O’D at the age of 27. He was buried in Paris France.

The beginning of that is actually called Texas Radio and the Big Beat. I don’t know why they didn’t credit it if they included it, because Love Me Two Times does it usually start with that. The Doors were amazing, cutting edge for their time and may be still today. Jim Morrison was a poet and always pushing boundaries, whatever that meant. They didn’t have a bass player, so Ray Manzarek played bass on keyboards. Be prepared if you dive down this rabbit hole, because you will be amazed, confused, and surprised. Welcome to The Doors.
