"Were interested in the health of our horses" That was extremely rude, and insulting to people who let their horses out on grass 24/7. There's nothing wrong with it, it's good for your horses. They're probably so bored from being in their stalls so much, mental health is important too
@wolfyy664
@wolfyy664 22 дня назад
I’d assume you didn’t mean it to sound the way it did but saying you care about your horses health and then adding “instead of throwing them in a pasture and enjoy yourselves” came off a bit rude to people who do have their horses out 24/7. If your horses need to not have grass 24/7 then that’s fine. But remember horses can live off of grass. They need the pasture. And a lot of horses do wonderful in pasture 24/7. In all honestly it sounded like you’re saying people who do do that just doesn’t care about their horses as much.
@Rhettpoker
@Rhettpoker 22 дня назад
Exactly. My horses live outside 24/7. They get top of the line feed, have everything they could ever need and honestly all behavioural issues they had from being stalled when they were boarded is gone. Stalls are for our convenience, not horses.
@MadyAndDuke

I think that if you exercise your horse like you should, on a regular basis, then they would be ok to be out on grass 24/7.

Please don’t be so self- righteous about leaving the horses on pasture overnight. You wouldn’t make it in Eastern Oregon because there are a lot of “homeless” horses ( they are outside all the time) and do just fine and most of them are working horses.

Horses naturally live on grass... in the wild they roam on grass all day... but of course, get more exercise than your herd does as well. Many riding horses are kept on outdoor board and are happy and healthy for it. I wasn't a big fan of the attitude about this.

I have 7 horses who went from coming into stalls at night then field during the day to now living out 24/7 and their mental health is way better . Even when they’re in no work or full work and retirement they still were just happy . Came into a dirt field during the winter with 24/7 hay available . We had 2 horses crib and usually in my experience it’s either becuase they’re bored , need their teeth done or have some neurological issue which we sorted it out as teeth and Boredom issues and we used a paste literally called anti crib paste and it solved it within 2 weeks

@horseandogs 22 дня назад
Either get her a cribbing collar, line the top wood with metal or let her out 24/7. Once a horse cribs in a stall, sometimes learned, out of boredom etc. they will likely do it their entire life. Sometimes it’s just habit, and sometimes it’s an indicator of being stressed or bored in the stall. Some will even do it in the paddock. But if she only does it in the stall, she likely is or has experienced stress while in the stall. I’m a big proponent of keeping your horses out as much as possible. Some horses like being in the stall, in which case you can let them in during the hottest part or coldest part of days, or if it storms. But I promise your horses will thank you if you keep them out for longer during nice weather!
@tinajones3990
@tinajones3990 22 дня назад
Horses are designed by nature to move and graze and travel to water most of the day and night..they only sleep for short periods of time usually in the hottest part of the day I can understand being cautious on spring grass or a pony that has foundered. But its past that time of year.

Ladybug needs more stimulation she's use to working you can use wrought iron at the top and sides of your wood to help with the chewing and put a cushion on top of your wood milking stand would help.

I think putting two horses in the same confined stall is a very bad idea. All horses get into squabbles and they will end up kicking each other badly if neither has room to run away. It's an accident waiting to happen.

When Sophie uses the flag with Honey she needs to give her a reward with the flag by petting her all over with it once she does what Sophie wants. The reward is where the horse will learn so if she drives her forward with it she should follow it up with a pet with the flag as a reward. Ironically Apple cider vinegar is used in some supplement so it’s actually palatable. I would try one of the specialized sprays that has spice in it. I would also make sure a vet really looks at her teeth because if she’s always chewed wood it can really mess up their teeth and jaw. But a muzzle may be the only option to keep her safe from ingesting wood.

There are many reasons for Ladybug is chewing wood. Separation from other horses that she wants to be with. Like chewing the fence the other day. Today in side the barn... she maybe bored. Wants to be outside or working. I am a great believer that horses should be outside 90% of the time. My good show horse ate, slept, and trained outside. Even before any event we were going to. Our race horses and ponies were stalled 99% of the time. Because of the intense training and exercise program they were on. Wood chewing and cribbing/windsucking are to different things. This comment is more for the people that don't know. Wood chewers are equines that chew on wood. There are many reasons for this action to take place. It also can become an addiction. Cribbing or Windsucking depending the area you are from or the discipline you are involved in. This is a really bad habit or addiction your equine can have. It affects the health of the horses. And harder or impossible to cure. Cribbing actions are. They latch on a piece of wood (generally) with their top teeth. The pull back making their neck arch. While doing this the suck in air. Sometimes the will sort of make a grunt sound. They can stand their for hours. I had 3 hadit horses over my time with horses that were addicted to this. We tried ever apparatus out there. The best was 24 hour our turn out. With one place to Crib and that was way back in the field. The gate and surrounding area close to the gate was metal or electricity. So they had choices. Be with the others or stand alone and do their habit. When I had mare with a foal I would use a collar or grazing muzzle on her when she was stalled. In the field she didn't wear one. Yes foals can pick up their mother's habit. I hope your veiwers can understand the differents between the two. Laura horses can be cared for health was as you are doing. It does not hurt them as much as you think. It is people that have been pushed into believing what is so bad for horse so they accommodate to the people. I have seen so many changes on how they should be feed and then to find out it is wrong. Over doing it with supplement and medicine. It the same as doctors pushing drugs to the people instead of finding the real source of the problem. Horses are naturally survivors. See check them for illness and make sure their healthy BUT people cause 99% off the horses problems and addiction habits. Sam if you put up metal stalls you just maybe opening up a new additions. Stall walking, weaving, kicking walls, pawing, and worse of all depression. Do you Laura want to create more problems or do like Sam said. Turnout. My run in was 20 x 40 for 6 horses. They got along eventually. 3 feeding areas in the corners. If someone got pushy they just move to the next feed corner. There were no corners to get trapped in. An easy flow. Water tank was outside of pen. Wall was made that they can put the head through to drink. It also had a board at the back of the tank so the horses or ponies just could jump through to the other side. When i had to shut the door. They were in their stalls over night. You can water your goat milk gradually so she still gets 3 times a day. Laura now you look like a true farm owner with dirt on you body and clothes. Everyone thought people don't get dirty on a farm. Farmers stay clean like city people. I had a rooster follow my all over. He just love my company and pick up other feed wherever we went. He had no hens for himself because they all had their rooster. Stool looks good. Don't knock it you did great. Love watch Sophie and her ponies. God Bless all.

R.E. Cribbing, get the horse a slow feeder haynet with little holes he has to work to pull the hay through and fill it with some low calorie grass hay he can trickle feed on all day. There are also toys you can hang in their stalls that sort of do the same thing with hard feed. They also make horse balls you can hang up as well. He's probably just board and cribbing has now become a habit/addiction. Oops! I just noticed the misspelling/pun... Board, crib, get it?!😂

She's not cribbing. That's where the horse sucks air in. She's CHEWING the wood.
@xx-vw9ep
@xx-vw9ep 23 дня назад
@@nicolegarwood4554 No, your wrong. " Cribbing *IS* where the horse *chews wood* *WINDSUCKING is where they suck in air which gives them an endorphin high* *Cribbing can lead to WINDSUCKING however. If the horse starts WINDSUCKING they'll need to get a Cribbing strap*
@xx-vw9ep

P.S. I'd just ring my vet to get advice on this matter as it is a medical as well as behavioural issue. I think most vets would be happy to give advice about this over the phone.

Maybe Lady is eating at the wood bcos she’s used to being turned out? If she’s really got Clydesdale they are hardy and thrive outside. I’m not a fan of stalls unless they’re open so the horse can come n go. But it’s not a perfect world. Oh Laura ! Have you seen Damascus goat? £650,000 and they look like monsters 👹 😂

CRIBBING COLLAR! It looks like you're going to have Posey getting bred, , if you can't keep her in one area you need an electric fence. If Posey gets bred at such a young age (especially by a bigger boar) she will have trouble giving birth and could easily die!

Tell Sam to get some U Chanel, you screw it into the wood on top of the fence boards. It will prevent the chewing. Additionally wood chewing is done out of boredom. Horses are grazing animals they are meant to be on grass 24/7. If your horses are getting obese on the grass put a grazing muzzle on them. At least they are out and moving around rather just standing in a stall. My horses never EVER stayed in a stall unless there was a reason medically. It’s not good for them to just Stand for hours on end
