Neither this nor the SS did Mirage's justice. One is very hampered by the giant backpack kibble and the lack of ankle articulation, while the other had a more squattier proportion and more spread-out kibble that managed to hinder the articulation a lot more. Hopefully there would be a 3rd party version that did Mirage justice on Deluxe scale 🗿🗿🗿
I feel like it's more of a character design problem. If ROTB Mirage didn't have movie magic (with, you know, the magic panels that come out of nowhere whenever a bot transforms), he'd look like a dude trying to pose in a way to vagely take the shape of a car. What I want to get to, is that his bot design is as easy to turn into a car as AOE Optimus and Lockdown.
I feel like people dont understand that the mainline toys dont have to be accurate so they can do whatever and the SS have to do their best to be accurate in BOTH modes. You can't be shocked when a Deluxe that has to be accurate in Robot AND Car mode (mostly car for Mirage due to Porche) and it has kibble. The SS figure seems to look good in pictures that are in hand. Relying on the stock photos to judge the figure is just... Not a good idea since by now we should all know the stock photos are always god awful
This movie was delayed for over a year. The toys that were supposed to be released at that time were also delayed to avoid spoilers. Those are the figures that are now being called "mainline". None of the previous figures that have been released the same time as the previous movies have never been movie accurate because they are based on the concept art. It's not that they "dont have to be accurate". They work with what they have at that time. It's only AFTER the movies are released that they then have a final design that they can now be more accurate. This delay only made it possible for the "mainline" AND Studio Series figures to come out at the same time.
imma be honest man, I ADORE this figure, as a DIY project, I just approach him like I would a modelkit and start painting away, you have to put very little effort to make it look 10 times better than the studio series one
I mean he’s not that bad I actually kinda prefer the robot more importantly his body and scale more than over the SS. The head is what kinda throws me off on this figure and I think the studio series at least on pictures doesn’t do the head justice well ether 😅 I’m noticing that a lot lately they have accurate upper torsos on SS but the legs on the SS are so simplistic or awkward and the mainline gets the proportions and legs more accurate makes me just confused why but I understand they gotta make some sacrifices but still you couldn’t just make the feet skinnier . Mirage just I hope gets better attention but I just hope his SS proves me wrong because they aren’t accurate
Exactly what I'm thinking. Like take the head, paints, ankle joints and wheels at the back from the SS, and that would be a perfect deluxe mirage. I don't like how the legs look at the SS.
I actually really like the concept design more than the ss mirage. The concept figure is more skinny and looks really cool imo, especially with that mask because he looks more serious than the ss mirage to me
I know I come from the “G1” generation, and many masked robots are in the original line, but I would have liked this one without a mask. I probably would consider now, unless customizing, but then that would be a few dollar, and for a few dollars more, I could just get the Studio Series one.
My only gripe with the figure is that it's 90% clear plastic, I got him from Toys R Us and when I opened him up he already had a stress mark on his thigh.
ThatToyGuy, thanks for existing and being a cool dude to watch! I honestly prefer you to PrimeVsPrime(though I like him too). You just seem more… personal
Decent deluxe with a simplified transformation. Probably unpopular opinion at this point but I really like the Studio series despite some of the kibble. The sculpting/paint is so much better and the car is actually licensed. I feel the same about the upcoming Nightbird but I'll wait until official reviews are out. I like that again it's a licensed vehicle, but what even is going on with that backpack?
A little off topic but I think if you add the matrix of leadership from the new gamer edition optimus prime into the little slit on the chest on the SS 102 Optimus it might look great
He could use a bit more paint in areas, but all in all, not too shabby of a first official deluxe variant. Just don't ask what part of the factory he came from.
He is still a fun figure. I painted his wheels black, so they look alot better. Also painted his blaster silver. My shoulder wheels stay on alot better than your copy, I prefer to have them folded down.
For an accurate robot mode movie Mirage this is probably the most accurate..but Hasbro pretty much leaves it for a customer to paint it properly themselves. And you have to find a printed accurate head.
I only hace two problems with this figure 1:the shoulder wheels pop up too easly and 2: the head but thats obvious why it is like that, other than those i really like this toy
I just realized how well this figure is aligned with the wheel jack look. Imagine if they swapped the names for the two in the movie because mirage sounded better for the Porsche.
I picked up the three-pack with this guy in it and, overall, he's the middle of the road for me. WAY better than the Bumblebee, not quite as satisfying and interesting as Airazor.
You get what you pay for. If my interest ever comes around to Bayverse toys, I’d wait for third party versions. If it’s not at least $80 it must be Hasbro.
@@BRproductions6173 No I am telling the truth, the arms and backpack are clear plastic, and maybe the main mechanism for the chestplate too given it appears to be silver painted as well. SS86 Jazz, Beast Machines Hammerstrike, and litterally any Clear Plastic special release are good examples at what to look at for what I mean by explode too: SS86 Jazz is a tame side of the example where it cracks apart and snaps rigidly, not disolving likd CPS but Pressure causing the crackage be it from a 5mm port or the pins themselves. Beast Machines Hammerstrike is an example at what I mean by exploding because of how that toy is designed, if a part breaks it will build pressure until you move it in the right way and it will shatter in your hand quite violently. the SS toy for ROTB Mirage is likely to be in that latter category idea of things given how it appears to transform, a movement could snap the arms off, and a transformation could possibly cause the full chest to implode, that toy is a time bomb akin to the Phantoka wave of Bionicle with Toa Lewa being the lime green plastic, where it is going to break and the plastic will assure you of it.
I really don't get how others are saying this is better than the SS. Does it capture his physique better? Yes but as a mainline, thats probably intended primarily for kids, its not that appealing outside its "definitely NOT a Porsche" alt.
It’s sad that all the mirage toys are pretty much garbage. The beast alliance one looks goofy, the mainline looks strange and has clear plastic parts that are destined to break, and the SS one… well… it actually managed to fail at the alt mode that got the most work put into it. Every SS mirage I’ve gotten ahold of refuses to transform all the way, and nothing tabs in right. The roof never tabs in. EVER. The part that got the most work, is the worst part of all. At least the robot mode’s upper half looks okay. His legs not so much, but honestly the robot mode is the decent part. Overall, mirage and arcee for done dirty by Hasbro when it comes to their toys…
No idea how you forced that roof down for transformation, it never wants to line up for me and feels like I’m forcing everything Personally really do dislike this figure but glad to see a reviewer I trust make a review of it to give a second opinion on
Because the figures are designed years before the finalized art in order to be released near the movie's launch, can't just have the ROTB toyline released 3 years after the film's release, doesn't make sense.
Know what? Despite the backpack and the lack of paint, he's a much better Mirage than the Studio Series. The SS is a kibble mess and he look absolutely nothing like in the movie. This mainline one, with just a black wash and some silver highlights would be almost it.
I agree he looks "straight". The limbs have no fluidity to them, and the torso is very flat and boxy. The legs are proportionally wrong. And then the backpack is a rectangle. The SS doesn't look very good, but it does look better than this figure.
0:39 People can't save some money by waiting 1-3 months and then buying an obviously better toy? I mean, this Mirage specifically I wouldn't have taken for free even because it looks little to nothing like in the movie and, for me, pretty ugly in general.
The prices for these figures are insane. I no longer double dip. This figure is an easy skip. I'll wait for the studio series version and even then, it's a maybe.
