Judith Durham was a close friend to my music teacher back at high school back in the mid 80s She would sometimes come in and help out ...An absolute gem of a lady with a heart of gold who has the voice of an angel
Did you know that the Seekers was a all male band. And one of the band member got married and Judith Durham walked into the there life and they got Judith Durham to be a member of the Band. And there is things that are on RU-vid how they met. All those years ago.
Judith is one of the most recognizable voices in musical history. She still can belt it out. They actually kept the Beatles and Stones out of #1 with their hit song, I'll Never Find Another You, in 1964. Judith has defied death and got herself back to singing after not being able to talk. She lost her husband due to very rare illness and this group was, and possibly still is, the biggest Aussie group ever. If you can do more of their songs. They are worth it.
@@wayne_twentyfive I don't know how she's coping with it. I found out through our fan group on Facebook. I think she's ok, because she's had a goo long life singing and she's had health issues before. However, I can't say I know, because I don't know her personally.
TY for reacting to The Seekers, it is with total shock and deep sadness we found out our Judith Passed away a few days ago at the age of 79. Judith Durham was not only a fantastic singer she was a National Treasure here, a beautiful lady with an even more beautiful soul. She will be given a State Funeral in Victoria so many can at least pay their last respects too her. The Seekers were HUGE in the 60's and Judith went on to show us her fabulous voice ever since then. Sad days for us all who loved her and The Seekers. Ty for this wonderful reaction it was as if you were meant to do it just before her passing. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘💖💖💖💖😭😭😢😢
It’s with much sadness to report that Judith Durham passed away yesterday, Friday August 5th. A true musical legend, RIP Georgy Girl. The carnival is sadly over.
7pm Sydney, Australia 6/8/22 and have just caught up with the fact Judy Durham has died at age seventy nine! The carnival may be over Judy, but we’ll love you till we die!
Judith Ďurham...what a singer, but Mel, you were spot on when you alluded to the expression on her face. She was not just singing but feeling it deeply too. Great to see you young people appreciating greatness in the days of no gadgets or autotune. Just pure talent!! Thank you for your great reaction. Best wishes from the UK.
O my God. can't believe I am just watching this reaction one day after Judith passed away. I am nearly 70 years old and have loved the Seekers for most of them. Rest in eternal peace Judith....thank you do much for the music. Heaven just had an angel return home.
The Seekers were another great Australian folk pop band from the 60's. They had so many great hits including "I'll Never Find Another You", "A World Of Our Own", "Georgy Girl", "Morningtown Ride", "Someday, One Day" etc. They have beautiful voices & harmonies. They don't make nostalgic music like this anymore. Reminds me of a simpler time.
Her name is Judith Durham. She was originally a talented jazz singer who turned to pop music, which is very unusual. The 3 guys in the group are talented song writers/musicians.
Believe it or not it failed to reach the USA Charts! It Peaked at No.105 in the USA! In the UK it was a huge Hit. 3 Weeks at No.1 and 1,410,000 copies sold.
@@stevetimms4100 I'll Never Find Another You" is a 1964 single by The Seekers, which reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom in February 1965.[1] It was The Seekers' first UK-released single,[1] and was the second-best selling of 1965 in the UK.[2] The song was also popular in the United States, reaching peaks of No. 4 pop and No. 2 easy listening on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.[3]
The song was written by TOm Springfield and is based on an old cossack folk tune "The Song of Stenka Razin". It is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard and no one does it quite like The Seekers did it, Melody, harmony, they played there own instruments, no lip-synching and they didn't have auto tune. I never tire of hearing Judith Durham's voice, sadly she passed away last week.
Some very sad people across Australia and around the world today with the news Judith passed away on Friday night, 5th August. Will be sadly missed by those of us who knew her, and those who only knew her through her singing. RIP Jude
Judith Durham is beautiful and her voice is pitch perfect. No other group sounded like The Seekers. I had tears in my eyes hearing them sing this song again. Great reaction guys; this song is not upside down, it is definitely right side up. If you want to hear Judith's voice again, listen to my favourite song of theirs, 'All Over the World' written by the French singer and composer, Françoise Hardy.
@@michaelbaughman8524 Agree. In my head, I keep thinking it shouldn't have been allowed to happen, as though something could have been done about it. I am very upset that the media made so little mention of her passing. She was such a massive star.
Judith Durham has the most beautiful voice ever. One of my all time favourite songs. I want this played at my funeral. Thank you for reacting to this. I love your channel keep up the great work
So pleased young people getting to appreciate songs like this we grew up with ,especially now the sad news Judith has passed away ,keep the memories coming 🌺
We sadly lost Judith this week and Australia is grieving. The voice and soul of an Angel. She is to be honoured with a State funeral and will be farewelled with the tears of a nation
The songwriter is Tom Springfield (brother of Dusty Springfield) who adapted it from an old Russian song. It was a million seller back in 1965. I keep coming back for the best smile on RU-vid (thanks for brightening up our days Mel 💐🔥).
The popular song is known by the words Volga, Volga mat' rodnaya, Iz za ostrova na strezhen, and, simply, Stenka Razin. The song gave the title to the famous Soviet musical comedy Volga-Volga. The melody was used by Tom Springfield in the song "The Carnival Is Over" that placed The Seekers at #1 in 1965 in Australia and the UK. (this is from the Wikipedia entry Stenka Razin so that seems to be the name of the song but if you look at the Wikipedia entry about the Seekers song it mentions that this Stenka song (circa 1880s) was itself adapted from a Russian folksong but they don't make it clear what the exact name of that folksong was - that's about as far as I can get in giving you an answer to your question - hope it helps)
You describe how I've felt about Judith Durham and the Seekers since I was five! I'm 60 in November. I lived for the Seekers as a youngster, and I still feel emotional about all their songs. She recently had her 79th birthday and is still living in Australia. She was still singing until about 4- 5 (?) years ago. I went to see the Seekers in 2014, and her voice was as good as it was all those years ago. The three boys deserve more than a passing mention too. Athol Guy brought the Seekers together, and Judith replaced a male singer they'd previously had. Bruce Woodley is an excellent songwriter, and actually did quite a bit of work with Paul Simon. He wrote 'I am Australian' which moved a massive audience in the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Keith Potger did the musical arranging and was especially talented at it. Easy to overlook this, but without him, the Seekers would not have had that unique sound that their instruments produced. He went on to form the New Seekers in the 1970s, but was not play with them. I think he might have performed with them just a couple of times, but certainly no more than that.
This song is even more powerful since the passing of the incredible Judith Durham on Aug. 5, 2022. Not only was she known for her gorgeous voice, but for being a lovely human being.
It is a sad day today, 6 August 2022 here in Australia. The wonderful Judith Durham, the singer of The Seekers passed away aged 79. Judith was truly one of the most beautiful voices ever. 😢😢 Vale Judith.
You should watch their farewell concert where they sing this live in concert. Judith is in her 70’s and still sounded AMAZING! They all did... Makes you cry 😢
Watching their videos you become aware of her amazing international, male, fan base. Males/gentlemen with more classical taste in music absolutely adored her and her singing.
You're not the only one that's memorized by her Angelic voice. Ever since I heard her voice, and that's more than fifty years ago and up to when she passed away her UNIQUE VOICE remains the same. I mean for a person that age. That's a real God given GIFT. I WILL LOVE HER TILL THE DAY I DIE.
Judith Durham, the lead singer of The Seekers died on 5th August. What a nice truibute it would be if all those who do reaction videos would do so to more of Judith, and of The Seekers. They all made such great music. Her voice was one of the finest and most pure, there will every be.
RIP Judith Durham. She was my first celeb crush. They kept the Beatles and other huge bands out of the number one spot and once performed in front of a crowd of 200 000. They were huge.
Judith Durham passed away 5 August 2022 aged 79 There are many great songs from them .Georgy girl , I'll Never find another you among them check them out.
Judith Durham died a few days ago (5th August) at the age of 79. I was lucky enough to see The Seekers, here in London, for both reunion tours and even in her 70s her voice had that incredible strength and beauty. What a talent! RIP Judith.
Just letting you know sad news today out of Australia, we lost Judith, she passed away on Saturday. Our hearts are broken she was a phenomenal singer and beautiful person. The Seekers lost there angel RIP Judith Durham. 😞💔🌹🇦🇺Australia is in mourning.
Thanks for highlighting this song! I really love to see younger generation people discover The Seekers for the first time! It's such a shame that music can't endure from generation to generation more frequently than it does, particularly REAL music as performed by this group. I do hope Shawn and Mel will continue to explore The Seekers music and learn about the lives of these incredible four. They still hold the Guinness World Record for the largest audience ever assembled in the southern hemisphere for their performances at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl in 1967 in Melbourne, AU.
As of this week, my heart is broken for we have lost that wonderful voice of Judith Durham. No one sings like her, and her voice is instantly recognizable. My tears are many, and I will never forget her.
Judith sadly passed away on the 05-08-2022 at the age of 79. Rest in peace the beautiful voice and human that was Judith Durham. The carnival is over. I will love you till I die.
As many have said below the Seekers are from Australia. they decided to come to London as the 60's music scene had had really exploded here with The Beatles, The Stones. they said they would stay 6 months and if nothing happened go home. They stayed 5 years i believe before going home again and in between had hit after hit inc. the title song the the film Georgy Girl. I discovered the Seekers as a boy from my mums old 45 records and this song was always my favorite.
One of my favourite groups. I played this song at my dad's funeral. It will always be a special song for me. Thank you for reacting. Sending love from Melbourne Australia. X
Her voice was unique... much like Karen Carpenters was... the seekers knocked The Beatles and The Rolling Stones off the Number one spot both in America and the UK several times ... a very humble lady with strong Christian faith.... and sadly she passed away just two days ago... so the carnival really is over .... but their music will definitely live on... vale Judith Durham...
I was born in New Zealand iin 1957, so I grew up with the Seekers. So wonderful to see you honoring these wonderful musicians. Especially Judith Durham, who recently passed away. To be taken into the care of angels, I am sure. Again, thank you for insightful channel.
Thank-you so much for the respect you gave to Judith Durham. I love The Seekers so much and this song IS amazing! It is good on the spirit to sing it too.
Judith Durham and the Seekers were an iconic Australian band from the 1960s and 70s. Sadly Judith passed away two days ago at the age of 78. She was a legend, may she Rest In Peace. 🎤 🌹
Rest In Peace Judith Durham 3 July 1943 - 5 August 2022. She suffered a near fatal car accident and a brain haemorrage but fought to continue her musical career. She will receive a State Funeral in her home state.
