Hi all, small correction if I may: in the video I state that max efficiency with the optimal spec is 23.1kwh per 100km (or 2.68 miles per kWh). This is actually on the high end of the efficiency you get from the Performance model. In actual fact, the best efficiency figure you can achieve in the P3, without performance pack, with the smaller wheels etc is listed as 20.1kwh per 100km (or around 3 miles per kWh). Still not great in the grand scheme of things but decent for a 2.7 tonne whopper. Anyhoo, hope you enjoyed the vid!

PS3 looks good. I test drove the PS2 (chose a Tesla Model Y though in the end). One of the reasons I rejected the PS2 was that the rear passenger room, for tall people, was awkward due to the slope of the passenger doors (anything above 6' and your shoulder was right up against the glass of the door window). Has this been addressed at all in the PS3? I too loved the gold seat belts and wish they were an option without having to take the performance version (didn't see the point in that personally).

Whilst it’s an aesthetically pleasing design, with a high-end price tag, there’s no mention of the active occupant monitoring that polestar have enabled. On the interior shots, you see a piano black strip, just above the infotainment screen, there’s a series of cameras in there which are actively monitoring the occupants. Sandy Munroe covered this. Given this car is running google auto, polestar need to be very transparent about how that data is being used. Polestar have shown (in the munroe video) that the video monitoring can be used to record your facial expressions and what was happening in the cabin of the car. Advertisers and insurance companies are going to love all that telemetry!

These lumps are so heavy they tear up the roads like you wouldn't believe, and there are no environmentally friendly resurfacing options. This thing will do approx 10x the damage of a medium sized combustion SUV, and approx 50x the damage of a normal hatchback car. Absolutely ridiculous.

It really isn't that giant from an American perspective. The length is less than a Honda Pilot, which is considered "midsize," while also being considerably less boxy. The weight is definitely a lot, but in terms of dimensions and volume, SUVs don't start to seem really big until you get up to 3 rows, something like a Kia Telluride. But it doesn't stop there. The Chevy Suburban, at 5690 mm, 9 seats, and 22 mpg US, would make this look kind of small parked next to it.

The figures quoted are clearly unreliable, 610km range from a 108kWh battery would require a 17.7kWh/100km efficiency, the quoted 'best case' efficiency was quoted at 23.1kWh/100kms, based on the 108kWh battery this gives it a 'best case' range of 468km. Still plenty of range for real world application, but falls so far below the claimed 610km it's little wonder people don't trust the range claims. I'm glad they got the weight distribution 50/50 this time, the Polestar 2 suffers from being nose heavy, a side effect of being an ICE car converted to EV. Look forward to the Polestar 4, a mid size SUV.

I ended up with a Telsa 3 and I have plenty of room including my son who is 7" tall. (P.S. I did buy a KIA EV6 at first and it have total Electrical failure after only 3 weeks ownership and 500 miles and the dealer said it would take 5 months to fix so it had a MAJOR factory defect of some kind!!! Dealer refunded my purchase price only AFTER I spent $2000.00 to hire a real scary Lawyer and he faxed them a nasty letter! Kia is too new at the electric car game so better give them 5 more years to catch up or end up being their Guinea Pig like I was!!!)*

Weight in itself doesn't need to be all bad as long as it doesn't reflect in range and charge times too much. Heavy cars are stable on winter roads and also safer if you would ever be in a crash
@deanrhodenizer938
@deanrhodenizer938 Год назад
@@mackan7086 I disagree. For any vehicle, mass is the thief of energy. Don’t forget that F=MA so you can’t cheat. It takes energy every time you accelerate an EV. Yes, you can get some back (but not all) with regenerative braking. So, for any two vehicles with equally clever engineering, the lighter vehicle will always be more efficient than the heavier vehicle. It was no surprise that the original Tesla roadster was based on a Lotus platform, as lightness (minimum mass) is of the utmost importance when it comes to making an EV as efficient as possible. Lotus’ claim to fame has always been superb handling that was enabled by good balance and minimal weight (mass). This also facilitates less force required to change direction. I also have misgivings with the generalizations that heavy cars are more stable, better in winter and better in a crash as I believe there are far more factors to be considered before one could assert such broad claims.

Really like the bit about the maps staying on the screen! My Dad would get annoyed because the maps would just… go away sometimes in our more modern Toyota with the screen. I think it was something to do with it reverting to homescreen or whatever, or when you get a call it would change or something. Which nice easy access for numbers you regularly call but the map situation not so much. I think you could fiddle around with the settings to change it but well for the average user’s experience who doesn’t want or know how to fiddle with tech I’m glad this vehicle has decided to just skip that step and go straight for maps always there. Speaking of haven’t actually asked them how their new EV’s map situation is like, but Mum’s been having fun tracking the charging etc. in the app, so far more interested in learning about the EV tech basics than they were the ICE.

I don't know why people are going on about the price. It's what I expected. This car should be this expensive. That interior looks really premium. The launch edition comes with the plus pack so you get air suspension and a great Bowers and Wilkins Stereo, heated everything, Brembo brakes, this car is loaded. And to think it shares with the next generation Volvo EX90, a car that's going to probably start at $70,000 without the air suspension, Brembos or Bower and Wilkins stereo, how is this car all that expensive? Add the Polestar tuning and what do you have? Yeah you pay extra for the leather seats and even the paint color but that's true of the Polestar 2 as well. Why should the flagship SUV of a high-end marque not be expensive? Polestar will make the Polestar 4 more affordable but the flagship has to be expensive. It's nowhere near as expensive as the Tesla flagship SUV, nor the Porsche or Mercedes or BMW or Audi flagship SUVs. So I don't get all the comments about the price. This is an expensive and almost exquisite looking car that is likely to stand out on the road due to its distinctive styling.

@@dstarley No. Both Volvo and Polestar are more upscale. If you want something based on Volvo then you go to a different brand like Lynk and Co. Geely has positioned Volvo to be a premium brand, Polestar as a more sporting and a bit higher-level premium brand and Lotus as a very high priced sporting and luxury brand. Lynk and Co. will have some Volvo tech but they're in a lower price point. And there's Zeekr that has a very exciting car, the Zeekr001, that is lower priced. Whoever told you Volvo is bringing out smaller EVs was incorrect. They'll make one smaller than the XC40 but it won't be that affordable. Volvo is moving up, not down market.

It's not large in the USA and it isn't all that high priced in the USA. Polestar is an expensive brand but there are more expensive brands. Right now Lucid is a more expensive brand. Rivian is just as expensive. Tesla makes cars that are much more expensive. A Model X is 40K more than than this car so I don't know why people are going on about the price. Yes, it's expensive. But it isn't anywhere near as expensive as a lot of other cars that don't even have as good engineering specifications as this one does. If the market needs less expensive cars, then look at the brands to bring them. But why get on Polestar for making a fine car in the upper end of the market? Polestar is not a budget marque.

@@benjaminsmith2287 let me try to explain my point. £80,000 is a lot of money for “mister Everyman”, I would find it hard to spend even half that figure for a new car and I am not alone. Of course there are people out there who can afford these very expensive cars, they though, I believe, are in the minority. What’s needed are the smaller, less expensive cars, the type being manufactured in China like the atto 3, these are the cars that will drive the mass adoption to EVs along with a vastly improved charging infrastructure especially here in England. I hope that clears up where I’m coming from.
