Lee Egan best thing ever can recommend is 3D printing. Websites like 3dhubs.com let you use other peoples printers for free, and thingiverse.com has a lot of printable models
Jell-o... er... in reality it's something many schools and design related facilities have. Design technology students are practically expected to use a vacuum former at some point or another for their project as a laser cutter can't do every single process. It's not that cheap to get one and obviously you wouldn't buy one for home use, but in the prototyping stage of products, a vacuum former is ideal. It isn't seen in mass production all that often because there's better processes that can do the same job, like injection moulding. Source: Actual design student
