There is a huge amount of military fiction being written by authors that do not bother doing any research at all on how the military operates. I find it kind of sad as some of the world building is pretty interesting but then the story is completely destroyed by getting even the basics just so completely wrong. And it is not like the info is hard to find. I do not understand why someone would spend all the time and energy it takes to write a story and then just wing it instead of doing a bit of research.
