I personally vote for Gon and Killua vs Netero, it just gives you everything. Netero just being a house, refusing to use one arm and one leg, not attacking yet injuring Killua when he kicked him We got a character establishing moment for both Killua who is calculated enough to understand that they have no chance and Gon's resolve to perhaps not win but set himself up with smaller goals like forcing Netero to use his other hand. A lot if going on in that fight, we establish the gap in power between Killua and Gon back then, we establish them as characters, we establish how far and above Netero is beyond anyone and everyone else. We even get a look into Netero's character establishing him to be who he is. It's not a 'real' fight, but it's absolutely a real fight.

I love this “fight” as well. It’s enjoyable every time I watch it (watching as I type this funny enough) Not really a fight but another scene that’s highly underrated is when Netero hops out of his airship and basically forms a crater from his landing. Such a casual feat but crazy when you really think about it in context, as right after that a bunch of applicants died or got disqualified because they were scared to die from a fall which for Netero is like hopping out of bed

Hisoka vs Kastro is one of my favorites in the series. The short but thorough establishment of Kastro's strength throught Killua, the explanation as to why nen users don't just create hundreds of nen abilities but rather tend to stick to one and the fact that Hisoka just plays the entire fight for shits and giggles, while actually devising and executing a complex strategy flawlessly... it's also the first high level Nen fight using more than just the basics in the series.

Gon vs Bat & Owl is pretty underrated. We see him dissect his opponents attack under utter darkness and confusion. Gon's fight with Knuckle is also pretty cool. Gon has very interesting fights. That's also where we got the most scaling for Razor funny enough, a throwaway line on how he is responsible for facilitating all the emission nen on the Island, the whole island! @abortedphoenix

It also helps that they had no idea what he was capable of, aside from strength. Razor recognized all of their strength and knew a fight with them would probably end up with both sides dying. But the troop didn't know the complexities behind the space they were in, and getting there already took calculated effort. As soon as they get on the island a "GM" appears?? Shoot doesn't get as much focus as he arguably could have but I love the symbolism between his anxiety making him feel caged, which influences his nen ability and then after he overcomes that he gains the ability to fly, like a freed bird. I think the Togari vs Hisoka fight did include nen. They just didnt want to expose it that early in the show to give away the mystery. It's reasonable to consider that Togari used manipulation to control the blades but hisoka just used his bungee gum to catch it in the air perfectly and redirect it back to him. Togari could have been a nen user but just a poor one in comparison to Hisoka.
@ali_p_q7920
@ali_p_q7920 Год назад
True that. And being an examiner doesn't mean he was a good fighter. We don't know the nature of the test Togari applied. Maybe it wasn't an interesting test (something like Menchi did) and that could be exactly why Hisoka attacked him.

Exactly. When you take into account the type of writer that Togashi is its safe to assume that Togari was in fact using Nen given what we learn later when its finally introduced officially. Gon VS Genthru might not be my favorite, but it really went out of its way to remind the audience who their main character is, how he views right and wrong, and what lengths he'll go to in order to win when that's at stake. It had this buildup and expectation that Gon was far out of his depth and that there was no way he takes this guy down on his own, and it ended in the most satisfying way possible. Literally the entire fight felt like Gon was on the backfoot, being forced to slowly lose against an opponent who was smarter, more brutal and just plain stronger, but Gon won by undermining what Genthru expected him to do and sacrificing both arms, the literal opposite of Genthru's own belief that you should be able to undermine Greed Island's rules and kill other people if it means victory, Gon sacrificed himself to do the same.
@skelitonking117
@skelitonking117 Год назад
I actually have the opposite reaction; Genthru's Hatsu was incredibly situational, and incredibly short ranged, with a ridiculously long activation requirement; I was legitimately frustrated with how they handled those 3; Killua with his equivalent knowledge of nen, mixed with his insane assassination skills could have easily killed all 3 of them, and let's not even get into Bisky, who absolutely could have taken all 3 out, in one go, without being injured. I also refuse to believe that Gent's Ten/Ko would have been strong enough to even take a single Jajanken. If before even learning Nen at all, Gon was able to make Netero use his other arm, without knowing, just for funsies, I refuse to believe that fighting Genthru would have been more difficult then that.

You underestimate Genthru so much. Yeah I've heard fans, even those of the spiders heavily, call that "filler" and I'm just like...this is so good. Theyre primary reason is that they were formed there and some ant who made herself queen is morphing and destroying there home-area. They are all really ready to kill these evil ant beings regardless of there own morals, and by doing so actually help. This doesn't even feel like they are anything but dark AF when a few ask to be killed whom had been turned into chimera ants and they just straight up oblilerate all of them. A contrast to the end of the arc where we see a decent amount of them simply chilling with no intention to keep harming people or even being pretty damn helpful in there own ways, and with a will to live. I suppose I asked that question "whom would be fine with this, or want to live?" before this and many may have not, but upon rewatches I'm lost on what the fans are missing tbh.

An interpretation why Shoot covers his right eye in his fight with Youpi: Neurologically, your left and right brain hemispheres are in charge of different modes of thinking. Left brain is analytical, unemotional, calculating. Right brain is emotional, instinctual. The brain hemispheres are cross-connected to the rest of the body, so the left brain is connected to the right side of your body. Shoot covering his right eye dampens his left brain (at least symbolically), keeping him from getting into analysis paralysis.

Shoot removed his doubts and fear by covering his eye, it's a very human like thing to do. Once you restrict your self from the privilege of full sight, your forcing your self to tap in instinctive reactions under desperate situations. Pluss, you can focus your one eye on the target without getting any distractions from your surroundings. Obviously, with both eyes you have more chances for survival, but with one eye you have the determination to succeed in what ever you are attempting to do even if it means killing your self in the process.

IMO, incredibly well done and couldn’t be done unless the person is willing to put a lot of time, effort, appreciation and love for each series. 2nd, IMO, would love a Shoot vs Youpi analysis video from you! Totally understand the profit from business aspect plus the layer of “potential insignificance” from the characters, which IMO makes Togashi that much more of a genius. 1 of my fav fights as well for many reasons, especially how it begins: The gang gets teleported right in front of Youpi, at the same time as Grandpa Zoldyck literally bringing down the house (or Palace XD) with MF’n Nen Dragons. Injuring Shoot Instantly, distracting everyone else as well EXCEPT Gon. Gon Pivots his rage from Pitou, changes his opponent and doesn’t waver a step or moment as he rushes in, ALONE. Killua realizes first, then everyone else and Shoots fear inadvertently changes from fear to excitement? Some positive emotion, the catalyst to his transformation, proving Togashi is still genius for making Gon as his MC since he still found a way to leave his imprint on such an amazing fight. P.S. ur hilarious, “Zoldyck customer service is so off the charts it probably resides on the DC” lmfao

Gon vs Knuckle Henreigh and Knuckle let their guard down and it almost cost them. The mixture of fight speeds and advanced hand-to-hand techniques. The way Knuckle was ready to double down every time Gon thought he caught up.

I agree it was very good combat wise, but I think it showed us how much Gon had become better and stronger and also showing us that Gon is still week compared to the likes compared to people like Meruem or Netero. Also that Knuckle won makes it much better. I think from the fact that Gon lost shows us that he still has a long way to go and it was also essential for Killua's needle removing

I think it’d be cool to see a video differentiating fights used as character development vs fights used as plot climaxes. They seem to be used distinctly differently in togashi’s writing style, I think he tends to enjoy the former type over the more often hyped climax fights that really just serve as entertainment spectacles/gambling matches. Even when we think a fight is all about just hype, we find out information later that packs so much development into a reviewing in highlight.

I was under the impression that the reason tonari talking about training the juggling blades meant that was a manipulation hatsu -- like he controlled using nen, which is why he thought hisoka would not be able to catch it.
@blueplayer6197
@blueplayer6197 Год назад
That would be emission, the ability to cover something with Nen then launch said something over a distance, not sure manipulation can even be done with objects and if it could he wouldn't need to catch them (which he said took him months to do) Hilariously Hisoka is very well equipped to ruin the day for emitters who for some reason use objects instead of just opening portals in mid-air since assuming this was a Nen fight Hisoka probably bungee gum all the blades while Tonari was doing his pointless juggling. It can also explain the blades coming back since his aura is still active on the objects. It could also be the Tonari is a terrible awful transmuter for virtually the same effect though instead of launching the blades he is covering them with Aura in order to be able to catch and retract them, unlike Hisoka he can't do anything else so he needed to train throwing and catching them while his Aura is only responsible for the 'boomerang' effect. This better explains his confidence that Hisoka won't be able to catch them since if they are both transmuters and he doesn't understand the gap between them he wouldn't understand how Hisoka can possibly use his bungee-gum to attach his aura to the blades then instantly catch them, cause ... they are sharp! I think either way this puts Tonari as an absolute trash Nen user
@ernesthader1109
@ernesthader1109 Год назад
@@blueplayer6197 , manipulator and emitter are similar in that they both emit nen. They differ in controlling nen, emitters control nen like what razor does, he gives commands or rules for his nen constructs. Manipulators on the other hand infuses their nen on objects just like what illumi and ironically, morel does. They can also set rules on said objects that has their nen. That's why it's a bit annoying to hear that morel is a transmuter when he is in fact a manipulator and his pipe is a very important part of his fights because it's the source of his smoke which is what morel controls and manipulates.
@blueplayer6197
@blueplayer6197 Год назад
@@ernesthader1109Morel is a manipulator according to Togashi, he maniuplates smoke puppets, who said otherwise? Ponzu as well she manipulates bees, the way Tonari is using his blades is not manipulation, absolutely can't be. His knives are being thrown and caught, they aren't being magically mind controlled from a distance and he mentioned training to catch them, manipulation wouldn't need it, they'd float around like Morel's puppets doing their own thing. Razor is conjuring for his devils, his emission is his ball that he used to blow up the troupe's ship, possibly the teleportation as well and it's likely he then controls his devils not with manipulation but emission (since there's no medium, unlike morel's pipe), Leorio is an emitter as well with the whole long distance punch thing, the idea is launching something or launching aura and then having some control over it at a distance, control that's nothing like a manipulator's which has full control or basic command control, this is seen with razor being able to 'magically' move his ball after he already threw it. And is one way to have blades come back, just very poorly. And again the other way is transmuting, transmuters manipulate their own aura, that's how Killua makes his aura electric and how Hisoka makes his Aura stretch, so one could imagine a sticky aura attached to the thrown blades and used to pull them back, effectively being a strictly worse bungee gum. It's 100% not manipulation, he has no true control and he said so himself and every maniuplator be it as weak as a random ant soldier or as strong as illumi had full control over at least 1 target, so it's either transmutation (dragging them back after thrown, but not at a controlled speed so he has to learn to catch) or emission (using the blade's natural spinning momentum to slightly curve the trajectory back at himself, again requiring him to physically catch) Illumi's needles aren't what's being manipulated, manipulators usually need a 'medium', like Illumi's needles, shalnark's well.. needle... and remote control, Ponzu's beehive, yada yada, the object allows them despite not emitting their aura to still have connection to the target and use commands. Which is why ponzu can only command the bees with simple commands, Illumi isn't moving the needles on his own but rather the people attached to the needles and why the first comes first served rule shalnark mentions exists - because once a medium is stuck to a target it's already loaded with the maniuplator's aura. No maniuplator that I can remember emits their aura, they all use a medium which becomes an aura hub to anything that touches it - though many of them detach their target from the hub (bees, snakes, smoke puppets) but in exchange they are limited to simple commands Well Ponzu being a slight exception since she has a leaning towards emission which is why she can control her message bee a little further than the hive (probably, can't really explain where her emission affinity came from otherwise) Edit: actually woops, Melody is half an emitter half manipulator, she is using sound that she emits aura with to manipulate anyone who hears it (so her aura is now in their ears presumably), so that's a neat way to be an emitting manipulator, certainly better than a message sending bee

The most underrated fight that I see no one else talk about is probably Gotoh Vs. Hisoka. He was the first character in the series to make Hisoka struggle even for a little bit due to his Nen ability to shoot coins he enhanced with his aura and used his Bungee Gum (which, no I'm not saying it) against him. Though he didn't account for Hisoka to undo his power at his feet and used it on his back to fling out of there and fling Gotoh's coins back at him and use that and taunt him as a diversion to sneak in for a surprise kill. It shows just how adaptive Hisoka is and how other characters have got to keep up with him before he overwhelms them

Underrated or meaningful fights: any fight with the leopard ant. We've learned to fear the Chimera ants at these points in the story, especially when they unlock nen, but this character shows that pure strength is not as important as training, strategy and mastery of the system. It builds up our human characters like Morel, but they also do wonders for Meruem and Pitou. They are indirectly made to seem smarter, more capable and deadlier by comparison.

@oneandonlysound3453

It was also solid foreshadowing that despite the immense power of these beings, and however one interprets the conclusion, is that despite all that raw power, all the abilities and how young all the chimera ants were, they didn't have the training, nor did they have the technology humans do. In the end it almost makes humans look worse than them, which was a point meant to be made, but it is bone chilling. So when the leopard Ant Cheetu is involved, to him he has to win cause "all the speed." Then he makes an actually bad creation where Morel is just laying down lol, and you see how much inexperience with something so powerful as well as intelligence in itself. In a way the intelligence part is a good reason for not even close to all people being able to really tap into nen past anything basic on top of it.

Wonderfully specific, I'm sure, seeing as he only has one long ace fight across many combatants, but the fact it's this fight that restores a bit of Youpi's humanity while having the Ants being recognized by the Hunter Assoc. really makes it underrated af but heavily meaningful to the story.

Rewatched the Genthru fight yesterday. Couple things: I could never take the Bombers seriously, and they seemed painfully weak but were always treated as being absurdly strong. Gon was told to follow the plan but had a "great idea." The idea? Getting one arm blown off and almost losing the other so he could kick Genthru once, before doing the plan anyway. I know it's Gon so he's a stubborn fool, but holy shit the narrative for the whole fight is quite bad.

To me Hisoka vs togari can be explained by nen being used but not seen yet. Togari could be enhancing the blades or they could be conjured, it doesn’t matter to us at the time so it isn’t spot lighted. And for Hisoka, I just assumed he attached some bungee gum to the weapons before they ever left Togari’s hands or even hand them on his own hands.. either way the message got explained that hisoka was more skilled than Togari without spoiling the secret of nen. Now I know that’s not perfect and the real explaination would be that nen wasn’t a thing yet, but I don’t thing it is too hard to make that fit

We also got to see that Morel could create a good raft with his Deep Purple as well as his immense lung capacity that helped him survive the whirlpool. I also like Gon vs Knuckle it just shows how kind Knuckle is for helping Gon grow so much especially saving APR for the last day so Gon could use his nen al those days prior. If they had selected shoot to be in god's accomplis would he have had a potentially greater effect. Stealing eyes and tentacles little by little while knuckle tried to get youpi to chase him. If hotel rafflesia's condition was to have gathered 10 pieces of it's target before it sucks in their whole body then this would be a doable win. If he has to get their whole body in piece by piece then I'd argue the ability is worthless.

Killua counter assassinations these guys and completely dismantles their group in what would've felt like the blink of an eye if you were to actually witness it but since its slowed down you get to see every detail.
