Today we work on why you can't play fast: economy of motion! This is the topic that changed everything for me and the 2 guitar exercises of today's video will hopefully help you out as well. You will learn to minimize your finger movement with your fretting hand, and you also work on developing a relaxed and economic wrist motion with your picking hand.

How can I make my left hand ring finger move independently? Because I can't move it as what it should be right now. And this is my biggest obstacle in improving my guitar journey.And I have a very very hard time time reaching the 9th with my pinky finger especialy in lower fret. Tnx

i share the same opinion, i've been following it for a while and i think that that's what makes a good teacher. I suck as a guitarrist and following his classes (not only) i could achieve a lot of progress and now i can play sharp and clean stuff that i wasn't able to, like Pantera, Death and other heavy music that demands some technique to execute in a nice way. With a good teacher even ungifted people can go a bit further and enjoy its own playing and eventually make other people enjoy it as well, wich is a real nice thing. I've dug a lot looking for good instructors on the internet and i think that this is the approach that i identify the most as being an actual good class and not only a good guitarrist showing what he can do on the internet, wich is greatly different as we know...

Bernth has very solid left hand technique that any classical guitar player would be happy to have. Notice how his fingers barely move away from the fretboard during this exercise. As a classical player, l learned the best way to minimize movement was simply to relax my fingers. Relaxing them releases them from the strings and they will naturally float up a minimal distance above the strings. This is a good technique to develop because you're also practicing relaxation, which is always a good thing.

You probably aren't still reading comments, but in the off chance you see this, you know what makes you great? You actually draw attention to all the tiny technique details that most other tutorial dudes tend to overlook or assume are implied. And even though they're tiny details, they make a HUGE difference, especially when trying to create that muscle memory. So THANK YOU for all your amazing tips!

So yeah, excellent lesson. My 1st time here, I am Subbed up and ready to go! 25 years playing and today you made me realize 2 things. One, my so called 'alternate picking' is actually a combination of that but sometimes hits a double downstroke, or double upstroke, which I think they call economy picking. Aaargh! Second, my finger height is REDICULOUS! And that many years never really paying attention to them, it feels almost impossible to control them when they aren't holding a note. I appreciate the comment about keeping the fingers relaxed, seems to help a bit, but man do I have some serious work to do! Again, thank you Bernth, nice to meet you, rock on!!

@@_Not_Retarded No guitar exists that was made for my stupid weird hands. I am almost 100% sure that I have mastered economy of motion and minimized the amount I have to move my fingers and I literally cannot play near the speeds some of the best shredders play, but EVERY single shredder I have ever seen has nimble, long fingers. The only somewhat exception I personally know of is Dustie from BTBAM and he generally doesn't play any of the really complex stuff. That's all Paul with his 6 knuckled fingers.
@zainpunka1703
@zainpunka1703 2 года назад
You dont need all that stretch stuff, you can play fast with just 3 strings, its down to pick economy, just learn on small things at a time, 3 strings, keep on that til it get s ok then move up the fretboard. Check out Michael Schenker,
