THANK YOU - This is gold - I'm a single figure-once scratch player. This is the perfect answer to my Furyk re-route and dumping it under, humping the goat, and inside-out over-cooked draws with "resistance to rotation". I make my move sound worse than it is but I've been noticing lately that I've been reaching at address. Too much tilt. My mid-70's have been approaching 80. It's been killing me. Nobody talks about this - they all talk about fixing OTT. Thanks much.
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf Год назад
You got it----that should be EASY to fix if you fix the right root causes. I've worked with lots of good players like you who are too under plane. Depends on WHY its happening but adding in a swing plane station like this one below can also help. Make sure your ribcage and chest are also rotating open enough in early and throughout downswing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EmXw-YeD324.html&pp=ygUcRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHN3aW5nIG9uIHBsYW5lIA%3D%3D

This lesson is amazing. Lately, I've been struggling with my irons but hitting my driver and fairway woods better than ever. But this exposed the problem . . . I was 'covering' my irons by moving my head almost over the ball and that resulted in the wrong side of the swing equation. Didn't do that with the driver so this revealed the cause of my iron struggles . . . and vastly improved my results. Thanks!

Great concept Eric. How do you cope with different club lengths through the bag, though? Does it change the chest position over the hips marginally, or should we keep the posture drill (knees + shoulder bend) as is?
@CogornoGolf

Thanks! In terms of the FEELs here.....this would apply the same with all clubs. The length/lie angle of the club would naturally distance some minor setup changes but in terms of the FEELS here....would be the same concepts throughout.

Trail hip must not move out towards the target line/ball too soon or at all! Hips should move in a more elliptical motion rather than in a circle. This video seems to be a follow up to You Won't Believe How Easy This Move Makes The Downswing with Trevor Saltzman. I've been focusing on the hip movement and everything else seems to fall in place.

Hi Eric, love this, I’ve often tried the butt back thing and always ended up messing it up. I think this tip of staying taller to start is what was missing. One thing I found that people might need to be aware of is that if you start taller you might need to address the ball on the toe. I had to do that or i shanked like crazy when I lowered on the downswing.

Hey Steve! could be good. Too simplistic to say for sure YES or NO....would need to see what ACTUALLY happens when you FEEL that. If that simple FEEL produces perfect motion then I love it. If it doesn't then I hate it :)

People don't tell you that your right elbow pushes your left side out of the way .no thought other then you club beats your shirt buttons to the ball. Any sport your elbow controls your throw whether it is a club racket or football or baseball oranything you throw and unless you are trying to straight line your swing you are throwing your clubhead.

I played baseball a long time. If I put so much thought into my swing I would have never played as well as I did. Since I simplified my thoughts about my golf swing it has turned everything around. I do my takeaway and then just do what I need to get the club and hand back to address but with weight forward which causes the shaft lean. So many things happen on their own when you do this. Thanks to you and Mike Malaska

Likewise. And glad you mentioned this bc it's directly related to this vital concept. Spent many stubborn yrs trying to incorporate my baseball swing. Bc its just fun. Even though it doesn't ultimately work...But then a lightbulb went off when I was screwing around with the kids at baseball practice. I realized the proper golf downswing is practically identical to a SS or 3rd baseman turning a double play. I mentioned this to a golf pro not long ago and he said Hogan actually said this! That's fascinating to me.

@@zachwilliams4453 @zachwilliams4453 awesome man, it's crazy isn't it! And wow! Here's Hogan's quote (thank you google) “It has always seemed to me that, in its general character, this motion is quite similar to the one an infielder makes when he throws to first base after scooping up a ground ball,” -------Ben Hogan So for him it was to first base. I do love the idea of SS/3rd to second, but yknow what I think Hogan's 1st base idea could really help me reduce my pulled misses. Because an older thought of mine was to slap the ball to RF. That's a fun/helpful thought as well if you are pulling it too much.

Hi Eric, In this stance since we don't bend from hips and rather bend from upper body I think the shaft at stance will be more verticle (in my case at more than my usual 45 degree angle). During the downswing when hips bend the shaft will shallow. If I keep shaft 45 degrees at stance then I end up hitting very low shots especially my 3 wood.
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 11 месяцев назад
Yes thats part of it.....as a general check I would look to get the butt of the club roughly pointing at the belt buckle from down the line in terms of height/angle of shaft at setup

Eric - Thank you! Doesn’t this contradict video released 8 days ago - You Won’t Believe How Easy This Move Makes The Downswing where right hip goes back (in to wall) during backswing?
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf Год назад
Hey Buck! Nope---this is more so for players who over do that. Unfortunately everything in the swing you can OVER DO or UNDER DO. So for the 3 players I gave lessons too they had their hips too far back. Idea is to draw a line down your butt at setup and simply have right hip stay on that on way back. For those who over do and then EE I like to start 1 inch away and stay inside it hope that helps

@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf Год назад
Hey Juan! Yep! If you draw a line down your right butt at setup.....during the backswing....you just want the hip to stay ON that line. I see people error on both sides. Pushing back TOO MUCH or PUSHING IN. Key is to STAY on the line....thats why I setup with it an inch or so behind for this one
@mattjwieland
@mattjwieland 11 месяцев назад
There is a second, other vital reason. IF the club head is not on plane in the downswing (i.e. over the top), your body will automatically stop or slow hip rotation. If you didn't you would pull it like crazy or pull-slice it. The club head MUST be from the inside i.e. on plane in order to turn through properly.

My pro said that if you look at a lot of baseball players setting up in the batters box, they do this move where they push their hips forward while they're getting set. @@CogornoGolf Yes. Rolling on the instep, keeping the trail heel down until impact... Just that swing thought alone, I find with my students, gets them working the lower body correctly, without much more input from me. ...and it helps in areas like the sequencing and timing of the downswing motion... also impact, release and follow through. Eric, what about weight distribution? Is the top-heavy part also due to weight too far towards the toes? This would create an off-balance situation where the body corrects with hips moving forward. Maybe it's posture and weight distribution where you want your chest move over your toes and an even weight distribution heel to toe?
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf Год назад
100% It can go both ways really in terms of posture (how bent over your are) and your weight in feet. Ideally is pressure in balls of feet. If your upper body is way too far forward IT DEPENDS how far back you kick your hips.....if your upper body goes forward and you dont push hips back weight will be too far on toes. If you push hips back a bunch tho weight could actually be too far on heels So I've seen it go both ways. I went more into details on the setup part here as well may help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5REpAHSNZd0.html&pp=ygUcRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGVhcmx5IGV4dGVuc2lvbg%3D%3D

This is my feel virtual! I lift my toes just slight before going into my swing. Has helped with keeping my hips and chest back (and over each other) and "checking" my posture. It's easy to let all the weight go to your heels though and fall away. Balls of the feet like Eric said is the sweet spot!

Is the focus the same with the woods? I seem to be able to manage this setup and move with my irons, but my driver/3 wood gets super sweepy.

In terms of the FEELS here.....yes, this would apply the same with all clubs. The length/lie angle of the club would naturally distance some minor setup changes but in terms of the FEELS here....would be the same concepts throughout.

I meant no disrespect. Watch all of your videos and really enjoy them, but KB was the first thing that popped into my mind when I watched this. His address is crazy. Clubs look 6 inches too short for him!@@CogornoGolf

100%......99/100 golfers from his setup would early extend like crazy.....we see it everyday. He's that talented

Get in friggin shape. It doesnt take but 20-30 minutes a day Do 3 sets 12 push ups 3 sets 25 sit ups 1 set of 20 body weight squats And look up a RU-vid video on lower back stretches. Idc what you do if you want to get better you have to be able to move. This is just starters for most people that do not do anything but think they'll get better at golf

Eric, thank very much. This tip of your not to keep the center of the chest too much forward has made my swing very solid as I am able to turn easily now. I am 70 and a beginner at golf.
