Thanks Qualcomm for enduring the lonely path of supporting my music career. Learn more about Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform and on-device AI at www.qualcomm.com/
So many people helped make the bubble wrap music box happen! Here’s a list of build doulas who helped bring it to life:
Stu McConnel did a lot of the engineering and has a helluva brain. Please don’t try to hire him because he now works full-time (!) with me.
AJ Lodge helped film the music video and wrote the song for its debut! / aj.lodge
Amanda Lodge did the story boarding and assisted on the shoot! She does character design and murals and you should hire her: / amandajanelodge
Sami Go is a machinist who helped install the rotary kit! And she’s also taught me pretty much everything I know about CNCelia. You can follow her here: / gosamilee
Victor Broadley lended me his fancy tapping arm and saved me ~so much time~. He makes a bunch of movie props and has a cute dog: / veektohr
Jorvon Moss lended me his 3D printer when I was in a pinch! He also makes hella cool robotics projects if you need inspo: / odd_jayy

Everything is better with you, Sarah the instrumentalist
Luckily and Happily, Baegel

"Popcorn" by Hot Butter was made specifically for your machine, and released exactly 50 years ago. You were channeling that song's ghost, I swear, when you decided to do this project. There's a video game called Pengo that uses that song as a soundtrack too. So, that's my request.

Thank you for being so open about how hard it is to persevere through a project like this. I’m a new electrical engineer working on my first big side hustle project, and while it’s nowhere near as fun looking as this one, it is certainly as frustrating as you made your project sound (the staring contest analogy really hit home). It’s been getting hard for me to keep a positive attitude towards it lately, and with how passionate I normally am about my field of study, I find myself less and less able to keep these dark feelings away from my personal life. Seeing you push through your stuff helps me to feel like I can push through mine, and reminds me that all problems that cross the path of a capable engineer are temporary.
@vosechu
@vosechu Год назад
I spend so much time thinking and worrying about the “hustle” part (the money), that I forget to enjoy the “side” part (the fun, non-work part). As an engineer who’s been at this for a long time, my advice is to find an idea, ground it in the barest amount of financial reality, and then forget about that part entirely. Just enjoy the side part and the hustle will come.

I love that you take us through the process. I had a couple of the same ideas as you of the top and it was really interesting to see how they failed and how you then got around it. That's the fun and madness and victory of the design process. Its a little like crack, you know it will drive you mad but then you still do it again. Hey, lets design something random again! Also, I love the new new CNC tools! I didn't know about the drum stuff. I didn't need to know about the drum stuff, I don't have a place for of it even if I want it now! But I don't have the room to do it in an apt and don't have the money to rent a place to do it either so, I'm left to have idea come to me write them down and just continue on until the day I have a place to do my prototyping and learning like you do everyday I'm sure of. Simone, I just never get tired of watching you come up with the weirdest and quirkiest damn ideas, and making them work. Also you are kinda cute. I used to work in the field of software engineering, which I think is easier than physical engineering. Cuz if your software code doesn't work, it's fairly easy to just change your code and try it out. You don't need to make a new machine part. However I used to design and build wooden furniture, and I loved that, so that part of me loves watching you come up with ideas for your inventions. LOVE your quirky creativity. And LOVE how you are DETERMINED to make it work. And you do make it work. :)

As a printmaker, to me this seems like you made a dope printing press but for bubble wrap popping (Mostly because in intalgio printing, we have to use like three layers of fabric to get the press to push the paper into really thin copper plate lines that are etched into it with acid.) Point being this is sick as hell! Always love seeing your videos!

programmer here - yeah, basically every project (sometimes even task) starts by constructing a perfect idea in my head of how I'll do it to be clean, simple and elegant, and as soon as I start implementing it, every step is just discovering new and new problems and difficulties I failed to think of, requiring me to think of horrible workarounds that complicate the whole thing more and more, later finding out that specific ways how I made some previous workarounds have become new obstacles for whatever part I'm doing at that specific moment... and often all of this accumulates to such a degree that I just flat-out delete everything i've done up to that point, and start completely over, this time knowing of all the complications, so I can design the whole thing again, in an actually good way that takes those complications into account from the start... ...and this process often repeats several times.

Firstly, let me say, “That is so cool”. Secondly, it would be great for a group like Blue Man Group Thirdly, my heart sank when I realized the amount of plastic waste that would be generated. It would be great if you could have an endless loop of self re-inflating (is that even a word?) bubble wrap. We could call it bubble rewrap. Anyway, great job with this.
@Dorian803
@Dorian803 Год назад
Refilling is not too hard. Lots of things use foam to self re-inflate, like some camping mattresses and whoopee cushions. Resealing the bubble is more difficult because it needs to be so small and very reliable. I would scale up the bubbles to maybe an inch, and have a one way intake valve on the non-popping side made out of just a flap covering a hole inside the bubble. I still don't know about the resettable popping, but I know I've seen something somewhere that does it

Since so few bubbles are popped, maybe it could still be used for packaging?
@edwardpaulsen1074
@edwardpaulsen1074 Год назад
Since bubble wrap is so very often used for packaging only and is very often simply thrown away, this **IS** recycling it a bit first... it is also saving quite a bit of dead air space in a land fill... It is only generating "plastic waste" if you buy the bubble wrap ONLY for this and then throw it out. I would personally pop sheet after sheet of bubble wrap after receiving a day's shipments to relax and I was able to fit 40% more expended bubble wrap sheets in a given volume... I also went a step further by re-melting the dead bubble wrap into plastic sheets for building models. It can be done, it just depends on how much effort you are willing to put into it... it can even be kind of fun creating new materials from scraps!
