Random dude strolled up on my feed w 1,8k subs, and casually told me more about my favorite band, and my issues with accepting myself in 17 minutes, than 31 years of self searching has... Keep it up my friend, if you make content like this, you have a bright future ahead fo you!
Lateralus for the math. Grudge for the polyrythms. Parabol/Parabola for the journey it takes. Drummer and life long Tool fan here. Tool reaction vids have become something of a religious experience for me. Seeing my favorite musicians through a new set of eyes is so experiential. You've got a great mindset and I'm digging the videos. Keep rocking!
I believe anyone who loves tool knows exactly that feeling ha. When it comes to reaction videos Tools fan base is unlike any other. We’re all obsessed 🥵.
It's quite rare to come across someone genuinely interested in exploring the spiral, who isn't already a Tool fan. I guess for some it's a metaphysical, spiritual kind of thing. For me it's really just the more layers of understanding I can cram into my brain, the more expansive my picture of the world becomes. Of course, having a background in biology the themes of 46 & 2 are near and dear for me personally, and this was a really great reaction and analysis.
Lyrics are not distraction, they are main focus of the song wdym? please The Reactiverse,DO let lyrics distract you,we wanna for u to know what exactly Tool means ... when they write crazy shit as this!
I 100% believe the full impact of a 1st listen cannot be had reading and trying to interpret the lyrics. Listen well, let the music flow over you, their composition is a helluva lot deeper than the lyrics alone. The impact of discovering the lyrics organically makes a much bigger impact to the composition, in my humble opinion.
@@chriswebb7822 true but to "figure out" tool music you gotta understand thenreason for lyrics, same as Maynard singing "swing on the spira and music has this gradient sound like musical spiral you envision, its a blend both factions are equaly important and there is not one without the other
What’s the rush? There’s certainly no reason to try and ‘figure out Tool’ on a 1st listen. Trust me, I believe Maynard’s lyrics are absolutley critical to the composition but you don’t have to know everything right away. Listen to the composition as a whole and draw your own conclusions about some things. If you wanna know what he said go look it up, or read the lyrics beforehand. Just my opinion, I’ve been listening for 30 years, I think I know all the lyrics by now..maybe..LOL
@@anatos1722 yeah didn’t necessarily mean they’re a distraction, I’ve just seen several reactors pay too much attention to lyrics on the first listen. Tool was intended to be listened to without lyrics pulled up. That’s why none of their albums come with the lyric booklets
Citing a previous comment, you are ready for the next level of TOOL. You can handle it because you know your shit. Lateralus, The Grudge, Invincible, 7empest all have incredible drumming and Lateralus is my most inspirational song ever
Another great reaction. Considering you're a drummer I can't wait for your reaction to Lost Keys / Rosetta Stoned. That's like 15 minutes of poly rhythms. 🙂
I would start from their first album and just listen to all of them in their entirety 🤣 You really won’t regret it! Tool’s music I can listen to on repeat…over and over and never get tired of it. Been doing it since 1993.
These are great reactions/breakdowns! Not only genuine, but aware enough to speak in and with depth about it. Nice work. This was the album that everything fell into place. Justin Chancellor joined them, on bass at this time. He is the perfect bridge between Danny and Adam.
Being a tool fan and a guitarist and knowing absolutely nothing about time signatures makes me want to understand time signatures only for tool purposes lol
Some personal favorite Tool songs: Right In Two, Ticks and Leaches, 10000 Days and Wings for Marie (wings pt. 2) MUST BE PLAYED TOGETER, Parabol and Parabola also MUST be blayed together, Descending, 7empest, Schism. Whatever you choose, enjoy the ride!
Another great job! Maynard's voice is very low in the mix a lot of the time. He is another instrument in the band. I would not sweat the lyrics much on first listen. I say go with your gut and enjoy the structure of the song, the phrasing, build ups, changes and dynamics. By and large those are the showstoppers! Keep it up, you are appreciated. And yes, Danny's drumming is just at another level. The tasty treats NEVER end if you have an ear for it.
Yeah bro, you earned my subscription. Keep up with your real reactions and speaking your true thoughts and your channel is going to grow fast as fuck. Looking forward to more tool reactions!!
I believe that someone with you philosophies, insight, internally investigative eye would truly appreciate and benefit from experiencing the art put forth by Ren in the one take performance of Hi Ren. You owe it to yourself to be inspired by it.
It's very rewarding watching people hear Tool for the first time; I envy you- if only I could hear all this for the first time again. It's also rewarding watching the evolution of the band: from anger to conscious stoicism, elements of nihilism, no doubt, but always focusing on improving/evolving oneself. You nailed it with the subject analysis- nice. Be sure to watch the lyric video for this song- it explains all the psychological/spiritual concepts Maynard alludes to. Speaking of Ayahuasca, check out Puscifer's Bullet Train to Iowa. Check out Lateralus, Tempest, Vicarious, the Grudge, Aenima and Jambi next. Though this may sound cheesy, Tool is more of an experience than a band. Continue Spiraling Out...
hi there, the wife and me just found you last week with your first tool reaction and you instantly made our top 3 reaction channels! and with all you said in this vid, there is simply NO WAY not to do a reaction to ren "hi ren". this will take you one step further in your journey. have a good one!
4:40 that cheeky thing you heard was one bar of 7/8 in a song that’s mostly 4/4. This motif is repeated several times throughout the song. I love it because it keeps the listener on their toes
Also there's a super low vocal during the intro before you really hear Maynard. I'm probably wrong but it's like he's whispering "join in my Join in my child and listen Digging through, my old numb shadow" it's super faint, but it's there.
Bro - please please start from the beginning and do every song. You are one of the best reactors here. Refreshing - thank you for uour thoughtful content!
Please react to 3 more of their songs. 1 )ticks and leeches on lateralus. It seems like it doesn’t belong on that record 2)lateralus(the song) the whole song all instruments and even vocals are in tune with the Fibonacci sequence. (Each number is the sums of each proceeding ones 1+1=2 1+2=3 3+2=5 and so on) 3) 7empest it’s like Adam jones’ 11 minutes long bohemian rhapsody like Danny Carey’s was pneuma
Tool Army Soldier and new subscriber here. Welcome to the journey. James' efforts in digging deeper into our human experiences, spirituality, and hypocrisy is one of the reasons I joined the Army. Oh yeah, Danny, Justin, and Adam are brilliant too. Keep going down that rabbit hole and you will become a Army member too.
Melchizedek's reference was to the twentythree paired chromosomes, which equals fortysix. The two are the two chromosomes we need to be the next evolution of humanity.
This was great love this song, its not my favourite but its on my favourites list. Check out The Grudge that one is heavy with such a driving groove and so many change ups in feel
Hey man, great review, been a tool fan and always knew about the DNA strain but never heard about the shadow work your talking about so from a old fan to a new fan, thanking you for teaching me something new, keep up the good work and try reviewing (not joking) Hooker With A Penis from Aenima, it's a great song and Maynard isn't very metaphorical in this one, the message is pretty straight forward lol. Don't see alot of people review it and I'd love to see what you think. Keep up the good work
"Nothing in This Book is True, But it's Exactly the Way Things Are" was on Tool's reading list on their old message list. Yeah, I'm old. What other band comes with a reccommended book list? Definitely Melchezdik.
You nailed it with drunvalo melchizedek. That’s exactly part of where this song is coming from…. And then you got the shadow work, and the polyrhythms coming together; you’re definitely dialed in
“You’re only as good as your drummer.” Thank you !! BEATLES and the oft maligned Ringo come to mind !! He did what was needed, always !! With class and restraint.
The Patient is a really underrated one, but all of Lateralus! (In order for a real experience) Edit: It’s a shame Maynard hates everyone or I think he’d really like your philosophical views. Check out his interview with Rick Beato and spiral out! 🌀
Dude, love the content...so far. Do yourself a favor and check out the band "Karnivool". Suggested songs, "Themata", "Deadman", "Change" etc...pick one. You seem to have a fondness for syncopation. Karnivool delivers in spades.
More! Love these reactions man. Can’t go wrong with any song, literally. I think 7empest, Rosetta stoned, and ticks and leeches are Danny’s most creative, But you cannot go wrong.
You have GOT to look the worst of you IN THE EYE ! That’s where the recovery is !! And yes, psychedelics saved my life. They CURED me of intrusive suicidal thoughts.
I honest to God used to listen to this song before every mission I went on. Fueled by this and some Jack 3d. It's on like donkey Kong. This song will take you to a very aggressive place.. RLTW 3/75
@14:12 Nah, Pitchshifter is a different band entirely. ;-) Check them out What’s In It For Me for fun drumming or Innit for something different. Jason Bowld drums. Also the supergroup This Is Menace (also Jason) first album is a terrific drumming workout.
Another amazing drummer is vlad from Jinjer. He's self taught , was a classical piano player first , then guitar then learned drums. Not to mention their front person is the literal Goddess of metal.
Tool army is here. Love your reactions. Before I recommend more tool for you … you need to listen to Sleep Token-The Summoning if you haven’t listened to sleep token yet
If you close your eyes, it sounds like Mr Van Driessen from Beavis and Butthead is doing the reaction. LOL.. seriously, you sound like you could be a stand in for Mike Judge. On another note check out Lateralus, Right in Two, and Sober. Also, you are awesome. :)
