A fun way to play this modpack: choose to be a demon and commit die right away, taking over a host as soon as a compatible body shows up, and survive based on that.

Lots of people are talking about the coolness and the issue of possessing players. My own take on the idea is as follows: -Attempting to possess a player begins a mindscape pvp, as others have suggested. --While the battle is ongoing, the targeted player's body falls unconscious where they stand. ---If a player's body is killed while they are fighting a mental battle, they respawn in control of their body and their attacker suffers heavy Attrition. ----This makes griefing by possessing players mid-battle or mid-parkour difficult, and also allows players to be saved from mental battle if they are discovered by a friend (or foe, but a foe is under no obligation to return the dead player's drops.) --Attrition reduces the health of an attacking demon, but only affects a defending player if they are possessing another player's body. --Since the battle takes place in a mindscape, neither player can bring their inventory. Instead, every player can prepare three (maybe more?) inventory slots of 'mental defences' whenever they sleep in a bed. ---The items assigned as mental defences are destroyed in the real world, but you will start every mental battle with these items until you switch them out. --Human players start with a randomly selected generic mindscape, but whenever they sleep, they can switch to a different generic mindscape or enter and customize their own. ---Generic mindscapes are less well-defended than customized ones, but customization takes resources (see below) ---When inside your mindscape, you have creative movement, pass through solid objects, and break all blocks instantly, but placing blocks still removes them from your inventory. You can set up any number of traps, secret passages, and hidden caches of supplies, but cannot directly target your opponent (see below). ---Each mindscape must contain two spawn points, which can be placed during customization. When a battle begins, each player is assigned to a random spawnpoint. ----If for some reason a demon attempts to possess a player who is already undergoing a mental battle, they enter the existing battle at a randomly chosen spawn point. The battle does not end until only one player is left. ---Demons gain an additional mental defence slot (or possibly two?), but are forced to use a generic mindscape corresponding to the mob they currently possess. ----Demons in their original body have the ability to customize their mindscape, but still have access to their extra defence slots. This makes it very difficult to possess other demons under normal circumstances. --When you lose a mental battle you started, you can choose to be banished to the nether, overworld, or End. ---Choosing the nether places your spirit within one chunk of the nether portal paired with the closest overworld portal to the point where the battle took place, but you will not be told which direction that portal is in. ---Choosing the overworld places your spirit directly in front of a random overworld nether portal or abandoned portal structure. ---Choosing the End places your spirit in the Stronghold's portal chamber. --Losing a mental battle as the defender ejects you from your body as a special wandering spirit called a Displaced, which can possess mobs but cannot attempt to take control of any player body except their own. You can regain your body by re-possessing it through another battle or by killing the demon currently possessing it. You cannot attempt to re-possess your original body until one in-game day has passed, at which point you will be considered the attacker and banished upon defeat. ---If at any point a Displaced player's body is destroyed, the demon is ejected and the player may choose to respawn as a human or become a standard demon. --Demons occupying a human body (even their own) may leave it at any time, causing it to fall unconscious. A body with no player inhabiting it has no soul and can be posessed as easily as any mob. ---If a demon inhabiting a zombie cures itself, it gains a new human body even if another instance of its body is unoccupied. This allows the creation of multiple backup bodies, but if another demon finds them they can be easily possessed. --While any instance of a Displaced or demon player's human body is intact and has no other demon inhabiting it, their spirit form may instantly teleport to its location at any time. They lose this capacity while possessing any body. -A new resource, holy water, is created when water in a cauldron is exposed to sunlight. --Bottles of holy water can be thrown. On hit, they will damage kill possessed mobs or banish demons possessing players as if they had lost a mental battle. --Buckets of holy water can be placed on the ground like standard water, and retain all properties of such. Demons are instantly ejected from their current body if they come into contact with it, unless they are in their original human body. --Spirits attempting to move over holy water, no matter how far above it they are, will be obstructed as if they were attempting to move through a solid block. Getting through anyway takes twice as much time as getting through a solid block. If there is a block between a spirit and holy water, the spirit may pass freely. --Placing any container of holy water in a mental defence slot makes you immune to possession, but also prevents you from possessing other players. This effect is removed when the defence slot is assigned a new item.

Would be cool if there was a feature to enter other players bodies when you're a spirit, but I guess that would create a lot of issues so I understand why it's limited to mobs

It'd be cool if you could regain humanity by making contact with your spawn point, since the weakness thing seems a little much for a server. I'll see if that's an option or something that can be added with mods.

Hey fun fact my brother used this mod and the origins mod once, and he chose to be a demon and an arachnid, and he died and needed to cure himself since he was a zombie (baby zombie) if you didn't know arachnids have to eat meat and golden apples aren't meat so he was stuck like that until he cheated back to normal.

Imagine installing this mod on a roleplay server, or even on StoneWorks' one - you'll get a straight-up Necropolis Town from H5 in no time

I just saw requiem and i thought of GOLDEN EXPERIENCE REQUIEM

I feel like this could be a god tier mod, especially with certain mob mods, and also if you add the shapeshifter mod where you can kill mobs and then become them on top of it, but it does seem very bare bones so hoping there is a bit more compatibility than is shown since it'd be amazing to possess quite a few really powerful mobs. But also would be fun if you weren't limited by inventory or anything with certain ones since just being the mob alone doesn't really sound that exciting, especially when the shapeshifter mod exists where you can't only become the mob but shift between them, the only requirement being the need to kill it before you can become it.

Note: The Opus Daemonium no longer exists. Now, if you want to turn into a demon (now “remnant”) you have to talk to a Mortician. Morticians spawn nearby derelict shrines in soul sand valleys. There are four effects added as well: Emancipation, Reclamation, Penance and Attrition. (All but Attrition are temporary.) Emancipation allows you to leave your body at will. Reclamation lowers your level of Attrition. Penance 1 prevents you from curing attrition, or becoming human again. Penance 2 separates you from your human form. Penance 3 separates you from any mortal form. (Again, I believe it’s all temporary.) Attrition has four levels, each lowering your max health by 20% each time your body dies (if you are a remnant). In hardcore mode, it adds two levels each time you die and at Attrition 4 will permanently kill you. I am unsure if it’s possible to reclaim a human body without a constant supply of golden apples and weakness potions. More experimentation needs to be done, but this is a very fun mod.

Fun fact: in this mod, if you are in multiplayer and someone's hair colour is ginger in game, you are able to possess them, this is in reference to real life in which gingers have no souls

This, is requiem.

I always imagined "Phasing through walls" as a ghost to be kinda like walking through fog while alive. Except the fog is really thick, even as you come close. As you approach, the matter itself starts to "fade away" and you kinda see the inside of the wall, layer by layer, as you go through. Eventually you come through and you see it behind you. So... yeah, like going in mist. No matter how close you get, you cant quite "Catch" it

god i must say, this is fantastic to see, the evolution of mod reviews. from the classic early 2013 minecraft reviewers just putting items in a chest and talking about them in real time. to now where we have this high production minecraft review. really cool to see

Now i ask myself if someone has made something like WoW respawning already, the death angel and all, even different models to your spirit, this could be so fun

This is one the most diverse and in-depth mods I've ever seen that feels vanilla, but adds so much possibility.

Finally mod that is fun, new and nice polished. I get feelings from 2012 when most mods feels like that.

A bit of a shame this doesn’t have a Forge port, this would be a blast but the Create mod is my priority atm. Maybe once I feel like branching out I can try this, it’s a super cool mod!

I feel like a great addition to this mod would be a multiplayer mechanic where you can try to possess other players, but you have to win a mindscape pvp in order to complete the possession. While fighting in the mindscape, the player's body would look like it was asleep wherever it was and can still die. If a player is unconscious or possessed, other players should be able to enter a battle, and if they win, the original player returns to its body.

Can't wait to play this in my Minecraft Hardcore world
