That's standard from the early days of forums to today. The M owners will never let you forget how much more special the M car is to drive typically with a statement like: "completely different animal" etc. etc.
With your knowledge and experience a lot of people can tune their car and be safe while turning their cars into supercar killers. Hope you make an ultimate guide for n55(I own one planning to tune it, ran it stock for 5 years now) and b58 which I plan to get in future.
Thats quite interesting. I admire your logic and way of thinking, never thought about that. B48 might be a good N54 replacement in terms of power while having a much better fuel efficiency. Great Video, as always :D
I watch you for like over a year and all I got to say is... Hats off. You are doing God's work. You have so much knowledge and on top of that there is this very wise and smart approach to do things. 28:37 I wonder how new engines from BMW would behave, like in the new 520i. It would be funny to pay for base model and tune it to be on par with - let's say, 540 or 550e.
1st of all thank you for your guide. Just a few technical questions that i think most f30 320 330e would appreciate i see that the main issue is that the higher compression and fuel system of the f30 320 would lead to knock. So my question is? Does swapping the piston to OEM 330 help?? So might as well swap to a forged piston (CP etc) 2) another way to control the high comp + knock, would a methanol injection kit helps?? As it would increase the ron rating and allow the piston to cool down and avoid the dreaded piston melt. Your data seems to coinside with why most f30 b48 owner have piston melting issue after flashing bootmod3
Hi there maybe i can help on this mate Honestly if your gonna change pistons best to go forged and keep your motors stock ratio Less stress and you dont need a MAP just to drive it normal Also the higher compression of this engine will actually engage a better faster turbo spool So if you upgrade the turbo also, then the lag will not be to bad and youll make alot of power In regards to methanol kit i see your thinking its a good one, alternatively you could upgrade the air intake manifold better for cooling also
I got a 330i without m sport differential. It has open differential instead. I'm aware that you talk about differential topic at 20:03. Sounds like it is near impossible to install M sport differential afterward. How do you feel about 3rd-party limited-slip differential, like QUAIFE?
ive looked into it and QUAIFE seems like a good option from what ive looked into, its doesnt use conventional disks like a M car/perfromance diff, so the maintaince is non existant
Just got my 3201 2024 delivered last week absolutely blown away by the power that 4 banger can produce with the turbo loving it and cant wait for the warranty to expire hehehe
Love the content! Keep it up truly! But side note (hope you don't mind me adding my 2 cents) about the n20 rods, you mentioned they were forged? (If I heard that correctly) N20 has cast rods like the PWG N55s, only the EWG N55s etc got the same forged rods like the S55. Definitely does not the N20 help with TQ capability unfortunately 😢
great niche you got into, nice and early too! B48 is gonna be a legend. .. question.. I have a F48 X1 (dont laugh), not that I would swap turbos and go crazy on it, is the engine still built to take that kind of power? is my B48 variant any different i.e., rods, fuel system etc? im considering a JB4 tune to have some fun on the commutes, would you suggest any other mods?
BMW released 306Hp version of B48 it features a reinforced crankshaft with larger main bearings and new pistons with a lower 9.5:1 compression ratio So WHY Bmw would do that if this engine can reach much higher HP with good reliability?
What an incredibly smart man you are. I cant afford anything like this because these cars are really expensive in europe but im really enjoying the content and eagerly waiting for what you can make out of this platform.
So I guess you're saying that my 834 torque n54 factory internals days are numbered unless I turn it down? Lol. Yea but my tuner did it not me lol. 😮😢😂 WAIT WAIT JUST A TIC I'm measuring in NM not ftlbs. Since it's about 615 ftlb I should be alright. Whew!!
Question from the EU. If on pump gas (98 eu, 93 us I believe) will I be good to make 450whp on a 2019 330i xdrive? The option for a cold air intake and decat down pipe are very much on the table. Thanks for the great vids❤
i think with a few more mods yeah, ethanol adds a lot of power with a tune specifically for it, as far as i know. i plan on keeping mine 93 since there's no e85 near me
just saw a stock subie engine go over 1000hp on baderbuilds, i think theres some instances they can definitely go beyond the math youve shown here. with that said, street tune your car no matter what it is to a reliable level.
bmw is done, lost its technological excellence. This cars are considered low quality and very expensive to maintain. And they fail, badly. Such a shame.
The 4 cylinder Supra has the exact same engine as this car. If you’d be happy with 500 whp then I’d take a 2.0 Supra for the handling. They weigh very little.
I know that people in US don't like diesel engines but could you make a video about BMW diesel engines,e.g. B47 and B57?Here in Europe diesels are still very important and play a huge role on the market and they are highly tunable.
Love this Vlog, the prices for BMW 3 series are allot more in AU. The 330i in Australia is not XDrive actually we don’t have XDrive in any 3 series only the M340i. However we do have the M235 coupe in Australia that is running the B48 with XDrive which I assume it does not sell in the USA.
Can you give any insight to the potential of the specific version of the b46 found in the 2020 230ix and whether this can be achieved with the same safety? I assume an upgraded hpfp would help avoid lspi as well?
Sweet because very I’m interested in your setup, I’ll probably buy most of if not all the stuff on your affiliate links. I’ve drove the M340i but I’m glad I went with the 2021 M330i the 14k delta didn’t make sense to me when I spent 40k on getting my car plus the handling is much better on the 30i. I drove them back to back before my purchase now I could A: mod this bad boy or B: upgrade to the M440i 2022 edition. It’s a pleasure to have anyone of these cars 🙂
In your opinion is it worth upgrading the fuel system for a 330i f30 if only trying to make around 400whp, and if I wanted to take it to the next level will the upgraded fuel system be as reliable as your g20 ??
But if you want a light and nimble street car do it, 6 cylinders your only gonna get the power out of it top end if your on the highway, if it suits your needs upgrade b48 man
@@Reaper_f30 That makes no sense. The 6cyl is only slightly heavier and can produce far more torque (You know the thing which stops you needing to "top end" rev out) than the 4 pot. Stop talking rubbish.
@@sheilamorrison1954 i never said it was better top end, and no the weight and handling has a difference ive driven both, yes b58 is superior no one saying it aint, what im saying is for a 0 to 60 car quick pick up b48 modded is more than enough, ive had this confirmed by many garages and tuners so, no rubbish talk here ...mate...lol
@@Reaper_f30 "6 cylinders your only gonna get the power out of it top end if your on the highway" - This is exactly what you said and it makes no sense both factually and logically. I'm not sure how a garage/tuner can confirm a car is "more than enough". The B58 is quicker in every scenario which renders your comments like tuners favour it for anything wrong too. They dont, at least not the ones worth their salt. The 4pots aren't as well good, definitely wont put out as much power or last as long. Something else you might not know is that the weight distribution of these cars was based on a 6cyl (Almost perfect 50-50). The 4cyl has a worse, more front weighted, unsteer led bias. 1.2% more in fact, so while marginally lighter, the balance of the car gets worse. Go figure.
Add a transverse B48 project. Need some videos for X1-X2-Mini upgrades/engine mods. They did sell 200k+ since 16 and i happened to pick up a 19' for cheap.
@@phoobindustries8905 sales figures not high for Minis. I’m assuming less content viewership. But combine the 3 transverse B48 & you got #s. BMW forums keep telling me it’s an easy diy auto>6spd. Would need a video for that b4 I even try lol.
@@F85M barely any content on minis for a reason, a couple bolt ons and a tune and you max out the tranny. Even the manuals have a limit and at that point it’s just too sketchy
My BMW stranded me three times in 6 months. First time is so simple, the ground strap corroded and no start condition. Second time was the starter went out and third time is the water pump went dead. All I can say is, lease BMW new for enjoyment, but do not buy a used BMW. It is fun to drive when it runs, but it seems it spends more times dead then running. Again, I owned three and they all turned out to be money pit.
I’ve got a 2019/12 330e with the B engine. I only pump Euro 100 octane (US 93+). I’ve got BM3 but the off the shelf tune is for the F30 330e turned out, so I’m looking for a tuner available on Bootmod3 for a remote tune as I’m located in Central Europe. Looking to make 420hp 700nm gas & electric combined, on pump US 93+ octane / EU 100 octane. Any recommendations please? Thanks! 😁
What an amazing video. I’m hoping to get an F36 430i soon, and here in the UK i’ll be running the US equivalent of E5 93 octane (97 octane in UK). If my goal is ~350whp, I wonder what you would recommend? Obviously you say that the pistons are slightly different (but not massively so), so i’m wondering - can I not just fit the 350bar HPFP from the G-series to the B48 in the F series? That way I should be able to push a little bit past that 300bhp limit the F-series is known to have with the pistons cracking? Also, I’d upgrade the turbo to achieve the ~350whp with as little boost as possible. What do you think? 👀
Question, but why did BMW upgrade the crankshaft, pistons and other parts in the engine in the more powerful version of the B48 that is in the Mini and 235i? Would this not mean that the older 330i G20 (2019/2020) have weaker parts?
So I had a discussion with navardi tuned, regarding the B48A vs the b48B, as i myself have a 2018 B48A, I was informed that the only thing making the b48A more lspi prone/ damage, is the Compression ratio itself not the material used or shape, in fact the material and shape of the b48A was inferior more so on the early b48A versions, specifically the mini coopers, now im not sure if this is more europe based information but ive basically been informed that my 2018 b48A is the same material and quaility as a 2016 - 2019 b48B engine, and the limiting factor for tuning in this case is the compression ratio. in which case if i wish to push it into the 320BHP to 350NHP(300whp) area, the tune just need to more focused on the fuel quality and careful output of torque based on rpm and gear essentially. would love to know your thoughts on this info I've come across.
Would you say its worth getting a lower milage 330i with 4300miles or a bit cheaper one with 6000miles and this one even has some spec that I prefer. They both have followed BMW oem service intervals. I'm considering the IM450 turbo and cooler upgrades with my aim set on about 400hp safely.
Is there a shop that would install this setup for a guy who doesn't want to DIY? I understand the words you are saying, but it feels like I'm listening to an automotive version of Albert Einstein.
Help! Question: I have an F30 with the N20; how can one tell when the balance shaft chain wears and needs replacement? Have 91,000 now and did cam chain guide around 65,000. Thx!
So for my fellow 320i owners or 330e if thats what you got, seems in order to mitigate any piston damage if you want somethung like a ipos450 is Fyi im talking in the instance of running 99 octane pump gas A) GET YOURSELF A B58 TU PUMP and a custom tune, you wont have access to the full 5000 psi, still the b48s 3000, BUT when your at high speed and rpm, you'll be ensuring the volume of fuel being pumped as your not near the limit of the stock one Again the pump does not allow more fuel to go in, but ensures the max volume of 3000 psi is more achievable I wouldnt tune it at this stage above 290WHP -300 (340bhp - 360) and 480nm torque Keeps psi under 21 or below on stock turbo Hopefully tuner tunes good timing B) FORGED pistons first for saftey C) new turbo 400 to 450 whp 320i or 330e more than enough considering how light the car is. Vehicular DIY sound about right?😊
Hey i’d really like it if you got back to me on this I have a 2017 F30 330i and i was going to follow your exact set up turbo charge pipe down pipe port injection and intake manifold and when you drop the heat exchange video that too lol but when should i stop pushing i don’t what to lose a piston as you say the f30 might do so and i Love your videos been following your journey on this car for a minute now great videos
Adding of what @PapiAndrey after your getting into mid $40k price range u can buy a M340i with m sport pkg + mid range spec of options for that price. Im still thinking of building my 330i and get a gen2 when it drops even more
Hangouts Ethan off for me besides invisible flames, it's the energy content is not that high if you're on a long trip it's just not worth it. I'd be interested in a gas version that can produce 350 to 400 horsepower reliably.
Great video wow you put in the work on this platform would it be safe to say the mini JCW would should similar potential being it’s shares a B48 power plant. Keep the videos coming you’re putting out the most technical informative BMW material on this platform 👏
Where did you get the inlet pipe for the new turbo? Obviously you cant use the stock one because of the different diameter. I emailed IPOS and they said to use a rubber coupler.
I’ve been at a bit of a crossroads with what car to get. I have an ‘11 X5D with third row for hobbies and kid hauling. I’ve wanted an f80/82 for awhile, but the pricing hasn’t made sense for me when you consider the G20 videos you’ve made. I picked up an ‘18 430i vert just for grins (b46) but the roof is noisy when closed. I’m thinking I’ll sell it and look for an M Sport 330i like yours and do similar upgrades and enjoy the modern touches. Just out of curiosity, are there any differences INTERNALLY between the b46/b48? I can’t find solid info online. If I can find a way to quiet down my vert interior I could play around with the car since I already have it.
Hi! I have a 330e with B48B20B engine and i’m currently tuned with MG flasher. I would always drive my car in xtraboost (sport+ for hybrid) so it would always sit around 2k rpm + but after getting a straight pipe exhaust I wanted to keep the revs down therefore using sport individual. When this happened I’ve noticed the car starts hesitating when it’s cruising on 8th gear and 1200ish rpm. After some research I’ve figured out it is LSPI and now i’m worried. How can I make sure that my engine is still healthy and is it actually some knock happening in the engine or is it ECU’s way of protecting the engine by cutting the fuel when it notices it is getting too hot therefore the hesitation. I would really love it if you could please enlighten me a bit.
Use the logger tool, do pull in each gear from 3rd to 6th Then all in one go if you can. Check knock, if you do get some dw First check thr afrs, IATs and cylinder correctjon timing (no more than value of 3 no less than -3) If everything is withing acceptable values, you should be good
Can I ask you a question for my 2019 F36 440i xDrive Grand Coupe...changing my stock HP Fuel pump to TU HPFP without tune, will it add power or I need a tune? Also is it recommended to change to catted free flow down pipe?
Okay so 320i and 330e gen 1 dont tune above 350hp, for saftey just dont to above 330, and dont go above 300 area unlless you got the b58 tu pump with a custom tune 330i gen 1 and the b48 gen 2s can take near 400 on stock internals saftey, of course you need new turbo.
330e will respond differently to throttle than M340 thanks to that electric motor response. Instant power power under 1000rpm. No turbo can do that. Combine that e-motor with the upgrades you've made oh my. That would be the sweet spot for sure. Touring for me please!
Any comment on the cooling issues of the closed deck design? BMW techs are reporting cracked plastic and coolant leaks everywhere. Also the entire OFH is warping and needing replacement instead of just needing to replaced the gasket like on the N54 and N55.
