Thanks Biffa! Another great video and it gives me some ideas that I might be able to try in my own cities. The last city I built before taking a hiatus from the game had a massively complex rail system. Outside trains stayed on their own dedicated track, completely isolated from the city. Internal trains ran on their own loops, one cargo and one passenger. Trucks carried freight between the external and internal hubs, passengers walked across the street between external and internal stations. I don't remember the benefits of doing that. There was something I read, something about the mechanics of the game. It worked great and gave me lots more network to tinker with.

Biffa, have you thought of creating an intermodal cargo network? One that's not at all connected to your external connections but instead takes cargo from your raw material industry areas to your specialized factories and commercial areas? That can reduce truck traffic that goes between areas of your city (not jus traffic out and in)

Biffa!! Thanks to you I started playing this game +/- 3 weeks ago and am in love with it. As you always ask for challenges, here you have one: build a city up to X population, but you can't bulldoze anything nor move things that are already placed (as in real life). -> Can't bulldoze roads -> Can't bulldoze abandoned/burned down buildings -> Can't move services once placed -> Can bulldoze: parks, parking lots, 1st Lvl buildings; but can't relocate any of them (you have to buy/build them from zero) Any suggestions to make it more challenging are welcome in the comments, the idea is to make it a litle bit more realistic.

It's neat and looks pretty cool, but like you said a lot of train aficionados out there might hate it. I know nothing about trains but these things jump out to me: - The inclines (you mentioned this) - The sharp angles on some turns - Double bridges -- you have some tracks splitting right before bridging... in reality, why spend for 2 bridges when you could have 1 and then split after - Train roundabouts -- really curious if these exist. Seems like it's overkill given the traffic and it suffers from both the incline and sharp turn angles listed before Interested to hear what some train experts actually think. Anyway, hope this comment doesn't sound negative. Love the vids, keep up the awesome content!

I don't recall ever seeing a complicated rail junction like that turbo rail interchange in real life. Cargo train routes in particular are mostly point-to-point between stations and classification yards (marshalling yards in the UK) where train cars are sorted by destination and coupled into new trains. Even the T-interchange is too elaborate; in real life that junction would be an at grade Y intersection. Passenger trains similarly avoid such complicated rail junctions by putting a large station at the junction location and requiring passengers to transfer from their arrival train to their destination train. The trains themselves can therefore travel mostly point-to-point between stations with no need for elaborate interchanges.

As right-of-ways can be very difficult and very expensive to obtain what I would suggest is on a section of track that you don't need just disconnect one section and leave the rest until the point where you might need something else there. Also, where you have shared track for a short distance and then a cargo station beyond that I would suggest using the same right-of-way and then separating the tracks vertically if you can't do it horizontally. I found this very interesting! Thanks.

Something else you can do to assist is at the split between cargo and passenger, use TMPE to set which line goes which way. Just as you can tell certain traffic cannot go on a road, you can do the same with trains telling it one track is passenger only and another is cargo only. You don't have to do it for the entire line, only where the junction/split is.

I think I'd have split them a little differently. Having all the incoming lines go to one intersection, then that one branch of that intersection feeding every one of the terminals means there's a choke point where all external cargo traffic will be going over one pair of rails. If you instead had two 4-way intersections, you could have 1 of the externals into one of them, and 2 into another, then have one crossover between them, and a still have separate runs from there to the various cargo terminals.

Hi All, Every since your train spaghetti video i have always used separate tracks for freight and another for passengers, they never use the same rail line at all. On ciites with 1 rail entry point not much you can do other than leave space for the 2 merging points, but if i have 2 or more entry points to the map i dedicate 1 to passenger and the other to freight. Also the very first passenger station is Intercity ( ?? is that the right word ) all other have that option turned off. The first station connects to another one for local loop or goes straight to multi station building. Freight has its own lines and no passenger trains use the line, it cut out 99% of train congestion and train stopped on the tracks backed up. Regards George

14:28 You can toggle collision off with Fine Road Tool (Anarchy window, ^v^v button) and place your tracks over the rocks.

9:14 your traintracks were flooding, that is why the trains stopped out of nowhere

The city is looking absolutely amazing. Prolly best natural city I’ve seen. I think modding the whole build is overkill and unnatural. You may have to go back with asset buildings and I wanna see a Mr Tea tower. “Sippa Tea” baddest man on the planet. Used his wealth to make one of the most utopic vibrant cities on the planet. Make it happen!!!

with TM:PE you can determine where each kind of train is allowed to go pass (like with the cars). So you can seperate passenger from cargo

I just used the map view mod on my city and it looks really cool! its like a road atlas or google maps, also a cool way to save your city layout.

Biffa supports affordable housing for all, that's why he keeps bringing down the land value!

Perhaps you should add another cargo train terminal on the newer side of the city that you are building in, it can also help reduce industry traffic in the city.

Love seeing train zooming around like this! Great video. Wish you could turn off the trains despawning though. Really ruins the look of it all. Great landscaping and loving the progress of it all

@13:30. i can't wait for the update where you have to manage rain water runoff to prevent flooding with all of Biffa's sunken roads.
