Rule 1 of shaking out a tree: Put a clean sheet (or 2) around base of tree to easily catch fruit. Learned that in Santa Fe when harvesting Piñon (pine nuts). Love your videos. I watch all and get premier notices. This was a comedy kitchen sketch.

Hello Julie and Luke ... coming to you from Virginia. Wow, my grandmother and aunt would make damson preserves. You are the only other people I have heard of making anything with this fruit. So happy that you both started with blue outfits while on your "blueberry adventure"...white clothes would have not been good, lol. Julie, I just put up some elderberry syrup, which is an old fashioned cough and cold medicine that works quite well, but I'll be making some cordial, too. Thankfully, I'll not have a helper like Luke. Tell me, is Raymond single? I enjoy seeing him take care of Mapperton, and he's also quite handsome. : )

Well, your comedy-routine style is getting rave reviews! The fact that you two talk over each other and comment on each other is really endearing. I don't know how much or even if you pre-plan these episodes, but they feel unscripted, with Luke going off-piste at every junction, while Julie attempts to stay on plan. So when you are planning out your episodes, if you can keep this impromptu quality, it will be great! (PS - I've just subscribed.)

Next time you make a damson/mirabelle/sloe gin/vodka, don't put the spirit in for at least a month. The sugar will then extract all the juice by osmosis. You'll get much more colour and flavour. Try adding (just) a couple of drops of almond essence. I only shake it a few times before I put the spirit in. And then only a couple of times afterwards. Keep back a few bottles, it will be even better next Christmas.

I really like Luke’s commentary and his one liners (which I would consider close to dad jokes, which I love!) But I will say I get a lot of anxiety watching you guys interact 😂 Im not sure if it’s because Luke is European and maybe he does things more relaxed and by contrast I can see Julies American “go go go, can’t stop” attitude come out more (which being American I can relate to) It’s still cute never feel you have to rush your videos…I would sit here and watch you guys do a 4 hour video on really nothing lol you guys are just really entertaining

I did not know you could make damson gin. I make sloe gin every year, it's delicious. I find it quite surprising, given that I hate gin, to me it smells of cheap perfume. Luke is wrong, you have to freeze the fruit, so when you defrost it, it is all mushy, you then sieve it through a cheesecloth. By the way, I don't be to be rude, are you sure they are damson and not sloe? Damson is edile, sloe is extremely sharp.

When food are frozen it breaks the cell walls down . That’s the purpose of the freezing of the damsons , to release the juice .

I can so relate to the water problems (coming into the house, that is); we have had water come 3 different times on each of 3 levels separately! All from builder or maintenance errors too. So not fun...
