I checked, and there's an anime (tho the art style is more a cartoon) called Blood of Zeus that shows greek mythology quite accurately. I haven't watched it so I don't know if it's good, but it might be worth a peek for Carter!

Then its just classic human animalistic needs, food, water, sex, mixed with traditional and religious requirements to die a warriors death, kinda need conflicts and people wanting vengeance if you want to die in battle.

Greek... yeah Saint Seiya but that's as very loose tie. Blood of Zeus is probably more up your alley. While not anime (made in the east) persay, it's a animated action style. Speaking of which ya'll should check out the Castlevania series. 100% up your alley.

oh man... you guys are gonna love this show so much the more you watch it. I've already got so much stuff to say about it, but none of it is going to be relevant or make sense until you get to like... end of the first season-ish territory. I'm hugely looking forward to that. and then however good you think the first season is at the end, just remember that I felt that way too, and then the second season somehow still blew my expectations out of the water. you're in for such a good time.

Can't wait for y'all get to season 2. It elevated this anime above anything else I'd watched before. Even above Attack on Titan... Which is really saying something for me.

"why are vikings doing this?" its not just vikings but the story of human kind. no chance in hell that great leaders like Alexander the Great or Julius Caesar did not involve themselves or their soldiers in behavior natural to people. how to motivate a bunch of men to violence? very difficult and dangerous. modern times it requires a sense of nationalism, salary and specialized training for the ordinary citizen to become a soldier and kill from 150mts away(and sometimes get ptsd in the process). it took a certain kind of person to kill up close and personal, and a life of deprivation and violence, so the question of how to motivate ancient armies, or medieval period men to perform organized violence? loot and non consensual sex were primary motivators, as modern day factors tend to minimize these in western armies. absolutely loved the scene when askeladd sacked the village in this episode. when one of his men felt utter rapture with just a sideways shot of his face, his mouth wide open
