I love the idea of having paper near the bedside. My plan is to check when picking out socks/underwear. I toss clothing to the end of the bed and collect items needed for the day before showering. I’ll check the paper at the same time and place on the bed with my clothing. This will work for me because I already have the habit of not leaving the bedroom (especially house) when items are on the bed. I’ll then place the sheet into my inbox or do it first thing in the morning as needed. My camera youtube tip: I like your newer videos where you are on the other side of the bed (less distracting) but you have items in view on the camera (stage?) right and the center/left is the closet doors. I recommend placing objects (tall plant? lamp?) on the left (annoying but I tell myself it’s easier than driving to work or paying for a studio and it stops bothering me) so there is something to look at on each side OR move the camera toward the foot of the bed (assuming bed is in same location as this video) but pivot to remove the items on the wall from view. My 2cents from a barely successful youtuber! LOL
Thanks for your tips and for watching my videos. I actually moved locations so I don't have to clean my bed to film! There's lots I could do to increase production value but I don't imagine I'll spend a lot of effort doing that. I focus mostly on quality content.
I definitely have to use this technique of writing one thing on one piece of paper placing it in an actual Inbox. I have been writing multiple things on envelopes leaving them on my desk.
I *love* the one task per paper idea--I think that will help me with how overwhelmed I get when processing! As far as recording thoughts while you lay in bed, Alexa's ToDoist integration is THE reason I bought a dot for my bedroom. Even if you keep the paper next to your bed to write down the notes, you could tell Alexa to add checking the paper to your ToDo list for the next day. Thanks for all your videos!
Thank you for this video! I am getting into the GTD method now and I was looking for something that related to the physical inbox/work environment part, so I was happy to find this video. I do like the idea of keeping a notepad next to my bed for those ideas right before bed since this happens so frequently to me. If you wanted to consider an electronic option, maybe you could instead use the "Reminders" feature to get it out of your brain (or something similar if you don't use iPhone) and set a date/time reminder it to remind you to add it to your inbox for processing the next morning at 8 AM (or whatever time works best in the morning) to take a look at it. Thanks again!
nice video! thank you as always! as for how to make it a habit to look at what you wrote down on the notebook by your bed - what about instead of writinh in a separate notebook you capture those ideas in a list on Todoist or Notion or some other platform that you use on a daily basis? Then when you look over lists on that platform your "before sleep idea list" will catch your attention
I definitely capture these ideas during the day. At night it's more difficult because I ban all electronics from my bedside so I don't have access to Todoist. I could shout at my Alexa to add something but I can't always add the details I need. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching the video!
Maybe index cards would work better for you. In early 20th century, index cards were a big deal. There are even dry-erase index cards that you can reuse
Love the simplicity of the 2 tray system. Using some old tech Boogie Board LCD writing tablet(s) the kids disposed of next to my bed and other places to capture ideas. Just press "erase" when it goes into the system and you have a clean slate for the next batch of ideas.
A pretty awesome tool for idea capture is Apple Notes on iPad. You can set it so that tapping the pencil on the screen (when off/locked) launches Notes. It can give you a new note every time, it can also give you a new note every day (and re-open the days note for subsequent taps) so works pretty well. It’s probably the fastest digital note taking app I’ve used in terms of instantly being able to launch. I use OneNote for more long term stuff
I like your in tray, it seems a bit neater than the ones I have with the metal risers. Where do you put papers that you need to process that you can’t get to that day? Sorry if you mention it in another video but I have only just found your channel, so can feel a binge watching session coming...thanks
Inbox is for any unprocessed paper whether they’re meeting notes or the thoughts I capture on my own. I process them during my regular clarifying time.
