Non 1444 start dates in EU4 can get a little... weird. Regardless, today, in celebration of the 4th July, we play as the United States in EU4, or the EU4 United States, EU4 USA or even the USA EU4 depending on how you search for it. We need to free ourselves from the British and get a rare achievement as we dominate the new world in EU4! No need for an EU4 guide or eu4 usa GUIDE!

So, the American Revolutionary War is really interesting from the perspective of British strategy. As you mentioned, they didn't commit as many troops as they reasonably could, but they did commit a LOT of money. Like A LOT of money. Mainly because they were worried (and were almost correct) that a full committal of their forces to America would result in the French fully entering the war on the Americans' side, leaving the home islands very exposed to the French.

George Washington according to some other history channels I've watched was great at leading people and big picture strategies, but pretty bad at fair up-front engagements, Benedict Arnold was also known for being a great on-the-field general. That is probably why they have such stats.
@braxon
@braxon Год назад
I always saw George Washington as a mediocre tactician but great manager of great minds. He was always willing to listen to the opinions and criticisms of his people and take them to heart. More than that, He had an almost supernatural ability to determine whether suggestions from his generals were good or bad and then act on the good ones. History is full of otherwise great generals who were convinced to make bad decisions by their men or who ignored precent advice on their way to tragedy. George Washington on the other hand seemed to always follow the great advice while properly disregarding the bad advice.

There is an incredible way TONS of money as this start. See you paid off your debt, but what If I told you there was a way to take on Infinite debt? Well you see, there is an amazing event around 1800 where Alexander Hamilton asks to set up the National Bank. One option gives you like 1000 ducats (which Laith probably immediately took), but the other option drops your loan interest rate by 2.00%. That combined with economic ideas, parliament, policies gets you down to 1.00% Interest Rate Loans. ONE PERCENT. Which yes means less loan interest expenses, but the game also recalculates the total amount of loans you can take out by an absurd amount. I took out 1000's of ducats of loans immediately and built manufactories in every single high value province I could. Then I used all my diplo points for the rest of the game on developing provinces. This both increased income, but also the loan totals. So pretty soon I was able to take out 10k ducats in loans, then build more, then 20k, then more, then 30k and so on. By the end of the game I had taken out 200k ducats in loans, had manufactories in every province and all other buildings I could build, and I had the largest income in the world by like triple the 2nd place, like 1000's of ducats a month. I used that immense wealth to fight off the british, spanish, natives, and colonize every province I could all at once because I so much money. I had the largest army in the world as well. It was an incredible game. Also, the Americans get the most absurd generals in the world. If Laith had just kept rerolling generals at the beginning, he would have gotten a 6 6 easy and just destroyed the British right away.

What is also fascinating as you say later that "five years Canada will be ours", a lot of early America did desire that Canada join the Union, it was seen as natural that both Anglo-American colonies would unify together in a bid to break away from the British. The thing about George Washington is that generally speaking he was an okay general in terms of tactics and actually quite good in terms of strategy. The reality is his skills in generalship were not enough to compensate for the fact that his army, on average, was quite bad. Had he been given a reasonably competent professional European army (let's not get greedy), he most likely would've defeated Howe some time between the Battle of New York and the historical Battle of Trenton. He would not have won New York most likely, however, because the terrain favored the British. Garrisoning the various islands that made up New York City would've led to the British surrounding and cutting off each detachment with their navy, giving them the luxury of defeating each in detail, professional army or no professional army. This almost exactly happened historically had it not been for that foggy night that allowed Washington to sneak his army out of the trap. The smarter play would've been to position this new professional army on favorable ground outside New York City and wait for Howe to come to him. He most likely had political reasons to fight for New York. But with a professional army he would've found it much easier to reconstitute his army once across in New Jersey and would've been able to fight Howe on much more reasonable terms.

its funny you just did this playthru.. its almost like we have the same thoughts... i just started on the american independence date 2 days ago, but i played as released spanish nation (i forget the name) and formed CUBA asap.. i was expecting a fun but tough fight against America later, but Paradox has made it virtually impossible for America to win.. they got their asses kicked easily by England & 13 colonies (80k troops?) vs America (30k?) - You would think that paradox would add something to the game to make it more likely for America to win? like France being against england from the beginning (not historically accurate but it would help them survive maybe?) or give them some special troops that are amazing in defence? or more forts to slow englands advance? what this game doesnt take into account is historical things that gave America an advantage - like hit & run tactics (guerrilla warfare) - the fact that the local people will help the revolutionaries and maybe hinder the British... and the fact that Britain didnt actually want to have a long war killing tons of Americans and making them hate the British... the truth about the real history of the war, is they were hoping it would be a quick easy war.. Britain didnt send all their troops.. they could have won, but at the cost of removing troops from other places worldwide and at killing many more americans... having a colony that hated british rule even more... and eventually they would lose in the long term anyway.. and i think at that time America wasnt particularly profitable compared to asia etc. the fact that in this game tech and number of troops and discipline and moral are pretty much the only factors on whether a nation could win.. and cos the ai is dumb as hell.. you would think paradox would add something to hinder Britain in winning, like spawning in rebels constantly on british troops to weaken them?

Interesting that the Devs put so much effort into these start dates but then they don't have the colonies being allied with their mother countries (or England being Anglican). Yeah, it makes it easier to Manifest Destiny all of New Spain and Newfoundland as the US but it makes no sense, even by EU4's own rules (and actual history), that you shouldn't have to struggle to get any colonial land. On the other hand, annexing New Spain's ample gold mines is pretty awesome. I've never managed to make the Revolution work out, though. I just started after the war to skip the headache or, more likely, resorting to console commands (but you get Washington as your starting president that way). Also, wars make everyone broke. Frowny face emoji. Addendum: If you think America having a goal to take Quebec in their mission tree is odd, you'll really dislike most of Europe's trees. But, yeah, it's odd that Quebec is included in the mission to take Ohio. You'd think it would be a separate thing since those two areas are a bit different from a geopolitical goal standpoint. At least they bothered giving this late-game formable nation some of it's actual goals (even if they didn't ever manage to get some of them [like a lot of countries, actually]). They could have just went full generic and called it a day. Also, you can keep playing past 1821 if you're not in Ironman. Seems odd but I guess it's some kind of anti-cheating thing? Granted, I usually don't play to the end, but there it is.

Also, to be fair to how many British sayings we have, America preserved much of that era's slang, and ways of speech as 'their identity' while Britain continued to evolve away from it.

The British ran out of money. So, yes, they send every man they could send. They were fighting the French, the Spanish, and the Dutch were sending aid. (That's the other three colonial powers.) The war lasted six years. That was a bare-knuckled fight.

@@KingAlton9403 Americans are obligated to do this. There is a scene in The American President (1995) which does it well: "Oh yes he does A.J., I'm a citizen. This is my President, and in this Country it's not only permissible to question our leaders, it's our responsibility!" When did Americans lose their lofty ideals: ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HKTqS4bXugg.html )?

You should do a video where you take control of the smallest Indian nation at the time of either the Mughal, Maratha or British conquests and try to unite all of India + all territory of the Mughals, Marathas or British. #ReverseRaj

You get missions to take Canadian land because the US tried to "liberate" Canada both during the Revolution and during the War of 1812.
