The M2’s main weapon: the ability to lower the enemies frame rate

Phly, I'm sure someone has already mentioned it, but I couldn't find it in my initial comment scroll. The M2 was designed as an infantry support tank, hence the 4.7 billion machineguns. The two on the outer turret ARE in fact on pivoting mounts, they're simply locked into their travel position in-game. The intent is that an enterprising infantryman can climb onto the outside of the tank in order to better direct the tank commander's attention, and at the same time utilize the mounted gun simply by removing a quick-disconnect pin that would free that back end of the receiver from it's mount and then allow then gun to rotate around the pintle mount under the forward end of the receiver. This tank was designed under the Jingles principle of "Throw enough shit at the wall, eventually some will stick". Also, Warthunder fucked it up. The M2 only carried 12, 250 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition with 200 rounds for the main gun.

It's like the Bob Semple, but with an actual gun. I also remember when this thing was an absolute beast when the US ground forces were first added.

Phly, the two machine guns on the top were designed to be used as anti-aircraft weapons. A feature that was available, but not necessarily used on all of the production tanks. Also, fun fact, the M2 Medium never saw combat and was only used stateside for training exercises due to a realization that it was inadequate in comparison to the German armor of the time.

Those MG's on the side of the turret were meant for AA protection. I've seen a picture of a crewman standing in one of the hatches to the side of the turret and aiming the MG. It seems like Ordnance suddenly realized they needed AA defense and this was the best they could come up with.

3:30 the turret mounted MG were intended for anti-air, but lack of protection and limited movement, they were generally not in place. they were held on with a pin or easy release

The explanation for the M2's top & back machine guns is for when your in a convoy and the enemy planes start strafing your collum of tanks, the collum can keep advancing while the back guns light up the sky! That is a fact US air power wasn't the best during that time when the M2 was in service.

the top machine guns are anti-air. You pull the pin on the rear mount to swing the bottom down with the barrel up. Your angle of fire is if youre on the left side of the tank you fire over the right and vice versa. The hatch to the tank is below them. Open them up, pull the pin, lower down to bring the barrel up and fire. Thought they dont do that in War Thunder.

The backwards facing Brownings were meant to be given to infantry units once it arrived on the battlefield. Its a light infantry support tank.

The top two machine guns had pintles so they were able to pivot and aim. I believe they were mounted there for the purpose of infantry riding on the tank to fire machine guns into battle.

The top mounted mgs are for a specific but essential reason : if while on the battlefield you happen not to be recognized as American, you just open fire and advance with a pair of horns made by a continuous stream of tracers. That way you are not mistaken for anything but American. A very essential feature at the time

Girls Und Panzer.... Loved that series. I believe the M2 was featured in the movie where they versed the University team. However it was only in passing. The Pz 4, B1 bis, Tiger 1 P, Panzer38t/Hetzer, Chi-Nu and I-Go Ko for Ooarai Girls Academy. As for Pravda and Kuromorimine well they the expensive Russian and German vehicles respectively. They're are too many schools and tanks to remember off the top of my head.

Early M2's even had reflection plates where a machine gun was able to shoot at, to make the bullet ricochet behind and under the tank in order to kill infantry that was sneaking around

I question if that tank could even contain 21,000 rounds of 7.62 let alone with crew.. Those generic ammo cans you see all the time hold around 200 rounds of 7.62 with dimensions of roughly: 7 x 3.5 x 10 (inches) per ammo box. 105 of those would take up just a teensy bit of space.

The ones on top was to get a replacement if one or two guns broke. The m1919a4 MG was very easy to replace in a tank.

You can see the tripods on the front of the tank that are used for the machine guns on the turret, pretty much for infantry support

If you look at the chain running to the pin that is on the pivot, that's the release. You pop that pin out and the gun just lifts off.

I did a little research of the M2 it was obsolete when it rolled off the assemblely line. Main armament 1× 37 mm Gun M3 200 rounds Secondary armament 7× (maximum 9) .30-06 Browning M1919 machine guns 12,250 rounds

I belive those MGs on top were just stored here, maybe for replacement or for use outside when demounted.

The American tanks has one of the most tanks with more than 2 machine guns. The other tanks from other nations like the Soviet Union or the UK Had combat tanks that had mostly 2 mounted on the hull or turret. On the front hull, Cupla, Gun mantelet or the back of the turret. Here a small list with tanks that carried more than 2 Machine guns. - T6E1 (5 Machine guns) - M4 Early model (5 Machine guns) - M2 Medium (9 Combatready) - T7 Combat car (3 Machine guns) - Someone!? any others that I have mabye forgotten?

Back in CBT I happily started with US tanks, as I really wanted to enjoy the M4s and such. This gun stopped me in my tracks for a year or two before I touched them again.

The guns at the top were incase a gun jammed and needed replaced on the battlefield, or it could be used as a support weapon by someone i.e. a soldier could walk up to the tank, take it and use it as an LMG
