My favorite thing about Roger is that he doesn't give off "king" vibes. He's just a man living life to the fullest. Enjoying every moment with his crew. He does not look down on others as Kaido and Big Mom do.

My favorite thing about Roger is his judgment of character. He surrounded himself with a crew he could depend on, and not based on their abilities. The best example for me though is his relationship with Garp, and how he trusted the safety and life of his only son to the man who was sworn to serve his enemies. Because he knew Garp's heart and that he was a good man, a worthy adversary and therefore deserving of his respect and trust.

Why I dont think it's 'eating anywhere for free': 1 - why would Oden be so impressed at this and write with such emphasis? 2 - as pointed out in the comments, Ace would let people laugh, and not take this seriously. My theory: it's to make the whole world happy/ smile. 1 - it's pure, simple for a child to imagine. 2 - It's quite shocking, and could make Yamato cry cuz it's a beautiful dream. 3 - it fits with Luffy's role as Joyboy, and wherever he goes he makes people smile, and their lives brighter and happier. Any arc where he saves a country, people get freed from tirany/dispair/slavement or something, and are in a feast mood.

My favourite thing about Roger is how much he respected life. He went with his gut (first meeting with Rayleigh), he was kind to enemies who were not evil (as told to Ace and Luffy when helping a lost pirate find his way out to sea) and how he faced his death (knocking the entire world population out of their shell to dream of treasure, in essence helping them to live, not just exist and accept how things are.)

My favorite thing about Roger is that he was willing to give himself up to the navy in order to inspire the world to find his treasure, therefore inspiring Luffy himself to go on his journey.

What if it's something like, "I want to be friends with everyone." That's the kind of thing I can see Ace shocked about and Sabo laughing towards it. It makes sense in the purest form and it would make sense on why being the king of the pirates is an important role to achieve such a dream. I honestly think that Luffy isn't that selfish, I believe he wants to bring everyone laughter, smiles and joy to the world and by being everyone's friend and being the strongest pirate in the world would give that kind of power to do just that.

After the most recent chapter I don’t think it’s this. Some of the crew, specifically Usopp seemed intimidated by the scale of Luffy’s dream so it has to be something dangerous.

When roger met Rayleigh he said "do you want to turn the world upside down with me?" for me, this is the closest thing we know to their true dream. Also, Oda loves his inversions you can see them everywhere so it fits very well

DUDE, CHAPTER 1049 JUST CONFIRMED THIS! IT WAS IS DREAM ALL ALONG: "I want to create a world where my friends can eat as much as they want!"

My favourite thing about Roger is the fact that his indomitable presence draws everybody around him to follow him and support him in his dreams. Especially with the reveal of his relationship with Whitebeard, Oden, Shanks etc. it’s undeniable that he was a man who was going to achieve greatness and everybody in the one piece world saw that.

My favorite thing about roger is how fearless he was. He turned himself in to the marines and even when he was faced with death by execution, he smiled all the way to the end.

I think it was just revealed to us in 1049. With that being “A world where everyone eats.” It explains Yamatos reaction perfectly and is very plausible for Luffy.

Theory: Luffy and Roger said “ I will be the man who frees everyone.” Or something like that Reason 1: The world of one piece is always shown to be a place of injustice, racism, enslavement, human trafficking, and indentured servitude run rampant. Reason 2: Luffy would have been aware of this as a child since his best friend Sabo’s one wish was to be free and their home island was awash with all of these issues Reason 3: Luffy has spent literally every arc of his journey rescuing people from enslavement, and terrorism Reason 4: Gol D Roger laughed and cried when he got to the end of the world because while he was one of the D. Family and the inheritor of Joy Boy’s will he did not possess the Devil Fruit needed to become the great liberator, he cried because he couldn’t complete his goal, but laughed because he knew then that someone could and would proving that his goal was not crazy and was attainable. Reason 5: Shanks carried on Rogers will and waited for the opportunity to steal the needed devil fruit, then hand delivered it to Luffy “by accident” Reason 6: Despite Luffy’s selfishness in some ways, in truth whenever it really counts Luffy sacrifices his own safety to liberate anyone who needs it. Whitebeard would have laughed at Roger for the same reason as Sabo, and Oden would have been shocked but also moved by the gesture. Reason 8: All of the Characters in One Piece live in that universe and the concepts of the unjust and terrible reality of the world would be very “real” to them. From their perspective the world has always been this way, so Luffy and Rogers dream would seem both impossible, but would also be what they all secretly wanted. Reason 9: The void century is always viewed like some terrible disasters went down, but when you think about it that doesn’t check out. The great wars happened before the void century and were well known. What if the void century was actually an era of great peace and justice? An era after the great liberator (Joy Boy) liberated the world, if that was true the world government would definitely not want modern people to know, since then everyone would be aware of how the world should be and it would turn all people against the leaders.

I love Roger's general character design. The old one looked dull but this one actually makes him look like a rich pirate living his life to the fullest.

I loved how Roger had the determination to do what had never been done without an example or a title to claim. It was pure adventure

I loved how Roger was such a big mystery early on in the series and then he plays this big part later on in Wano where many more characters connect to him and more story is revealed

The final theory of "I want to be able to eat free wherever I go" makes TOO much sense for Luffy. He is always shown to be especially grateful to people who feed him/others for free when he is/they are hungry: *Sanji feeds a starving Gin after he's kicked out for being broke, Luffy avidly wants Sanji as his cook *Luffy is livid with Zoro for beating up all the Bounty Hunters in Whiskey Peak who fed them *Luffy is grateful to Koza's father in Alabasta, who worked hard just to get Luffy some water from the Oasis *Luffy forgives Hatchan for his past misdeeds just for some Takoyaki *Rebecca feeds Luffy with her last bit of money, Luffy immediately forgives her for trying to kill him *Otama feeds Luffy her only rice bowl. This leads to Luffy exposing himself just to beat the crap out of guys wasting Oshiruko at Kaido's party. All just because of how much Otama loved Oshiruko I mean, for a long while during Wano it seemed like his drive to free the country was just as much doing it for the Red Scabbards as it was for allowing "everyone to eat as much as they want" as Luffy stated himself

My favorite thing about Roger is the myth vs reality. His reputation as king of pirates is known all around the world and revered as this legendary person. In reality he's really goofy and relatable. He is super approachable and seems to befriend any and all walks of life.

Personally I think it's "I want to be everybody's friend" And "I will be everybody's friend." Friendship and companions are fundamental cores of both Luffy and Rodgers being. They live for freedom but they also live for their friends. It's simple enough for a child to think, and the influence of being pirate king let's him reach more people than ever before. Even in fights, Rodgers enemies laughed with him after.

There is one big hole in the "I'll be able to eat for free where ever I go!" dream. It's Aces words after he accidently spilled the information to Yamato, why would he say so seriously, "Nobody else can laugh! We believe in him! I really think he can make it happen!" if Luffy's dream was just to eat for free everywhere he goes lol, you would think he would let anyone laugh at such a silly joke plus I don't think just the fact Roger said it as well is enough to make Yamato cry or to stun Oden to the extent that it did. But I think their reactions are completely valid if the dream was to be able to *party with everyone in the world.* It's childlike enough for 7 year old Luffy but not too childish for 50 year old Roger, I also think it's possible that Roger DIDN'T get to complete his goal, because of what he learned at Laugh Tale and the realization that the World Government directly opposes the people of the world coming together that or his ending journey where he went around partying was what he considered his dream. The very first thing we see Luffy doing is watching the Red Haired Pirates partying, and its the only thing he seems to care about as much as meat, he always is concerned about the party at the end. So until Oda himself puts the answer in the story, this theory is my headcanon it makes the most sense out of anything I have heard or seen.

The best the thing about Roger is his mystery. The fact that he was revealed so late and kept Secret was a brilliant and very Patient move by Oda.

My favorite thing about Roger is his fighting style. He seems to be a swordsman without much regard for real swordsmanship but is a monster in spite of that. He carries a single saber which is able to clash with the murakumogiri and he even goes far enough to name his only son after the blade. Even the naming of his technique is simply fitting for the man named the king of the pirates. Divine Departure speaks for itself. As does Roger on the battlefield.

Ok so I'll just have to say this at this point. I've seen so many theories and here's my take. Luffy isn't going all out for free food, freedom or whatever. What seems weird to children but also suits Luffys personality in modern day? His Nakama. It's all about saving his friends and making friends, growing his crew and gathering more friends he can fight along and have a good time with. He goes out of his way to save cities from tyrants, gods and whatnot all so in the end people will all call him their friend. So I'll go all out and say that Luffys true goal is to befriend everyone. White beard even said it back in the war arc that he has the most terrifying power there is, he befriends everyone he comes in contact with. To go even further with this theory... Katakuri. He went out of his way to fight for what's right, he never fought to kill/defeat Katakuri, he however broke him free of his problems and Katakuri started admiring him for it. There's more examples of it if you're looking for it, but I'm not gonna give it all away and give you RU-vid content for free. 😉

My favorite thing about Roger is that he actually believes in what the poneglyphs and actually except that he was not JoyBoy and just a little short of a generation before he could meet JoyBoy. A man that was given title of king while not looking to be a king.

My favorite thing about Roger is that he is still something else, an unknown, maybe not as much as he used to be but I feel there are definitely world shaking secrets about Roger that I am just waiting to hear.

My favourite thing about Roger would be his ability to leave an impression on people. He asked Rayleigh to join him without even knowing who he was, fastforwad to 20-25 years Rayleigh still remembers all the details about him. not only him, its applies to everyone he has met, Oden was awestruck as soon as he saw Roger, Whitebeard respected him, Big Mom is still mad on him for stealing her poneglyph's print. Even Garp admits that despite his reputation he always respected him. And ofc, the whole world still remembers him as the Pirate King! Man that's something. He definetely was a great man!

This was fun. My only issue is that Luffy and Roger both said, "I want to be..." So it has to do with being something, not necessarily doing. I cant imagine him saying I want to be the greatest partier or be someone who never pays for food. Plus, I believe it was linked to his experience with shanks as a kid because that's when his dream solidified. It obviously wasnt something he thought he could do by being in the navy. Its something crazy, moving, inspiring, and surprising. Yet they believe in him.

Honestly Roger has had a huge impact on actual pirate mythology for me. When I see the Jolly Roger, I think of Roger smiling and laughing at death and choosing a life of freedom over oppression.

It’s something that made usopp ask luffy again and said it’s impossible. It’s something that made sanji think there’s something wrong in luffy’s head. It’s something that made chopper burst in tears and awe. It’s something that made jimbe, franky, and brook laugh out loud. It’s something that made zoro and robin speechless. And it’s something that made nami think that his dream is so luffy. And one of the most crucial context, it’s something that will be achieved or done “AT THE END OF LUFFY’s DREAM”. This context also said by Ace to Yamato as stated too in this video. So with that, i dont think make a feast of the world is luffy’s dream. I dont think everyone can eat and fill their belly is luffy’s dream. As both of them will surely makes sanji respect the dream instead of saying something wrong in luffy’s head. Throw a party is reasonable as party usually be held “AT THE END” of something. But it lacks the explanation of why it was so laughable, especially by jimbe. So it’s something about party, but not just a regular party. I think luffy, while also stating his dream, he also explain his reasoning. So we should also think the simplest reason aside from just thinking about his dream only.

First there is this whole myrth style around him, the music, then the stories Rayleigh and everyone began telling, till now the flashbacks where now they show us a mortal man, strong but a dork guy anyone would love to go for drinks with.

The fact, that right before his execution, he smiled to Garp begging him to take care of Ace, because Roger sees the trust in him and Garps relationship.

I think "I want to live forever" is a good answer, Sun wukong who Luffy is based off of went on a journey to search for immortality in mythology. And that could achieve many different reactions from children and old men alike. Think about it, in mythology Sun wukong started his first journey from the island he was born in a raft like Luffy in his barrel, his primary goal at this time was immortality. This is also written as him stating he wants to "become a god and hangout with the other gods and goddesses, to become a god he fights the 10 judges of the dead and erases his name from life and death(Blackbeard anyone?). I'm paraphrasing but something like that. So there's more evidence to even backup "I want to party with everyone".

Honestly, I can't see this not happing now. Luffy's dream of having a massive party with all the races in the world, like you said makes so much sense. I can't wait for the confirmation and will make the ending of the series all the more satisfying.

I think my favorite thing about Roger is how for about the whole pre skip we knew nothing about him and the little we did know painted as a rather dark or malicious character. And when we finally got more screen time we found out that he's just as Goofy as our favorite captain and even could fit in as an MC (I'd love a Roger spinoff). It raises the question of what other dark seeming characters are actually just hams?

In the world of One Piece we've seen people starve and be in terrible conditions so having a handful of people wish they could eat anywhere anytime essentially doesn't seem that unique that Shanks would be like "he said what Roger said". Especially considering Shanks has probably visited a lot of places in this condition and heard this kind of dream. I would be surprised if there wasn't at least a few people in Wano alone with this dream.

My favourite thing about Roger is his search for crewmembers named Silvers and Scopper and that he appoints them to his first and second commander. And then pretending like: 'ohh? My favorite thing about Roger is that he isn’t just an older Luffy. Oda could have easily been like, “Only people like this can be the pirate king,” but instead he made Roger his own unique character and that is a huge relief.

My favorite thing about Roger is his lore. Just because of the fact that the early history of the pirate era started around with him. You never hear about tails of the Will of D before Rogers time. It's kind of like there's more to be unraveled.

He is the man who truly enjoyed life. He was crowned the pirate king and was seen by every body as a person who only seek fame and glory but he was the one who saw life as an adventure. And also even though he was really strong he still cared about others and u can see that when kiado calling him soft in front of oda

What if their dream was ... "to go to the moon" I think it makes sense Roger was about to die and luft being a kid maybe looked up at the moon and wondered what'd it be like. I think the reactions of everyone else would fit perfectly as well.

What I like the most about Roger, is that he seems invincible. We've never seen him in any situation where he was the weak one and he just overall feel overpowered. I wonder if he was always that strong or which ennemy did he have to conquer to become the unstoppable force he became.

My favorite thing about Roger is the lesson you can learn from his role in the outcome of the story. Even though he stated he and his crew came too "early" to reaching Laugh Tale and he ultimately is not the person everyone is waiting for, he managed to enjoy his life the most with the time he was given.

My favorite thing about Roger is the history he has with Garp. I love the love/hate relationship they are always shown having. It cheers me up knowing that they were on both sides of the Government and still able to be friends. Hoping to see more of that in the future.

My favorite thing about Roger is the fact that he was this overwhelming force without an army. He only had Oro Jackson, no fleet necessary. Even Luffy will have the Straw hat fleet at the end.
