OneNetbook: Let's compete with the Nintendo Switch, it's an open market! Also OneNetbook: Let's give it a better processor, no GPU, and sell it for 4x the price of the Switch! Marketing Team: You're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation
@@AverageT-90 I'm sure it's set like Jatoxo said, since they sent out review samples with this hardware. But if it's already this expensive, adding a GPU isn't going to bring down the price.
I love Riley. I wish some of the personalities at my work were as low key, playful and reasonable as you folks. I've been having a bad week stacked on a bad month and so forth. The people, or the characters, behind the videos have helped a fair bit. As long as I have a decent distraction maybe I can get through this year to the other side.
Hope it gets better for you, buddy. Keep your head up and reach out to some friends and family, even if it's been years. Life can really suck sometimes and it seems like everything is going wrong and no way for it all to "get fixed". Don't beat yourself up and work on things one day at a time. Its amazing how even something as devastating as a divorce, car accident or serious injury/illness can seem so catastrophic at the time with no end in sight, but then only a year or two later have moved on so completely and it seems so far in the past.
It's the really shitty integrated GPU that's dragging this whole thing down, honestly. But if it did have a dedicated GPU, it would be more expensive and put out twice as much heat. I don't think they can win here.
@@shanez1215 AMD laptops can be configured to run below 15 watts by an OEM, they're just optimized for the 15w+ envelope. They also run a tiny bit hotter because of the increased silicon density. Overall it would probably be better though, although what would be best is something designed for this form factor that doesn't exist yet.
“dankpod” had a vid where he used an ipod classic (like 15 years old) as an external drive, installed windows onto it, and installed doom eternal. It ran fine lol
Literally came to the comments to say that... Ryzen 5 4600H... Probably cheaper than Intel and has a Radeon chip in it too... Would've been an absolute dream
Starlogical - High Tech Low Life does amd pay you people?? seriously on every friggin tech video.. im starting to despise amd because of all the shills and i love what they've done for the market
@@goncaloduarte4683 In terms of cpu, yes, but even intel crappy igpu is better than ryzen igpu... Also, this device might enough for emulating anything, the problem is the latency of the controllers. Also, this type of device need 9w to 12w consumption and it seems amd isn't making those at the moment (which is weird cause they built their chips in 7nm... So... They should consume less compared to intel 14+++++++++ but it seems not in terms of power).
@@syvix7787 the samsungs had that for awhile iirc. samsung is one of the biggest memory maker in the world so they can do these ram and storage options at much lower cost than other manufacturers.
@@senorcapitandiogenes2068 Ram keeps apps running in the background as well, which means that you don't have to wait potentially long loading times to resume whatever you may be doing in the application. Plus Samsungs One UI is a generally a heavier software skin, so by having more ram, there is no competition between the apps and software, which makes for a smoother experience
@Captain Diomedes Applications don't run natively on Android. They run in a Java VM, which is very memory intensive. Hence the reason why equivalent apps run relatively better on iOS even with outdated hardware.
This is really cool I love it's design, Too bad it's a little bit costly for the amount of proformance :/ hope to see more adorable gaming netbooks in the future :)
I'm so glad you reviewed this! Super tiny form factor machines like the Viao UX Micro have always held a special place in heart. If you're not really going to be using that machine I would love to take it for a spin. Seriously. I'll even do a deposit if you're interested.
There's a really interesting device called the Aya Neo coming from China that's similar to the Switch form factor but with Ryzen 5. Seeing quite respectable performance in modern games at a more than respectable ~700 dollar projected pricetag. Might be solid.
If I was using something like this as a "mobile" work device, it would really be along the idea of "I can take my work PC with me home or to the office" and have a dock set up in both locations with a real keyboard, mouse, and display. Meanwhile you can still read emails/watch movies/etc on the train.
To carry a knife is to carry one of the oldest of mans tools and separate yourself from mere apes. Or at least (insert a country that have knife ban(s)).
My buddy confirmed that his DragonBox Pyra is in the final stages of production and that they are having backers choose their final choice of color. He is expecting to get it before the end of the year. I can't wait to see it on Short Circuit since it has been many years in the making with many road blocks.
@@RedPMD For sure, I wouldn't pay 1200 for this, maybe 600. It's cool, but I'd rather just go to walmart or ebay/amazon and get a crappy laptop for 300 with the same specs.
@@brenotome IDK man, I remember people complaining to me that you couldn't do anything on them. I remember you could only have like 2-3 tabs the most before it became unusable. Thank goodness for the iPad. Intel atom with only 2GB on XP or 7 was bad. God forbid it had Vista.
I could 100% see you having a keyboard mouse at work, and another set at home. Just the tiny little boy to bring back and forth? That'd be pretty sweet.
Watching these short circuit videos really drives home how far LMG has come from the days where nearl every single video, and worse, every single thumbnail was of Linus ;) Getting to know the crew gave an entire new feel to the channel. Imma shill here for a minute, but if you think the same, floatplane has behind the scenes with other people in the office, and those are fun.
This unscripted format is such a fantastic break from the norm of ltt videos. I hope this channel keeps on putting on stuff that's a bit different, because I love it
I like the title, it saves time. I was thinking of getting a ONE GX, but will stick to my Switch and my Acer Nitro. I wish I could give ad revenue to them.
Wow. Hook up better quality controllers that looks and feel less cheap with less latency, and give it AMD chips and I would buy this. As it is right now? Nope.
The One Mix 3 Pro from the same company has the same internals, a larger screen, better usability as a laptop, actually useful tablet function (with pen input) and is more comfortable to game on if you slide it into an iPega 9083 controller. And it costs less.
This would be a fair bit more interesting if they had an alternativ set of controllers for mouse based games, like a trackball on the right and a few keys on the left.
Holy shit this was steaming via Bluetooth audio in my car, with about a half second delay, and I was wondering why Short-circuit would make a video with a Linus voice-over. LOL WTF THIS guy sounds exactly like Linus.
Dude, they just keep going intel for those kinds of machines huh Meanwhile AMD is there with more performance + power efficiency and they still go to the one fucker dominating the OEM market. Don't know why, cause I'll never buy this small stuff anyway, but it makes me so angery.
@@SirisC It's only 4.5W with passive cooling, otherwise just like other notebooks, it'll run at 7 - 9W TDP to reach its advertised max turbo clock. And speaking of which, forgot to metion the very unimpressive turbo max of 2.7Ghz, that even if AMD limited their power consumption to 5W, compared to this 14nm++++++ chip, the architectural improvements of ryzen's 7nm would still allow it to run faster, for longer and be cheaper. Omega Bourbon “Departed grandma” that means she is dead. And the catholic part means she believes in heaven. Heaven is sometimes considered to be above or “higher” then earth.
i feel like this design kinda targets a really niche market, with that being college students, like this one kid i had who would take notes with his left hand typing on a tiny little notebook, while doing other things with his right, but like if that's the case, that's neat
I think its more for people who want something more flexible than a standard android device (I wouldn't even consider any Apple product in this field) and have more games than a Switch given its a fairly limited platform.
I have a Switch and since I played the 3 exclusives I bought it for it has been collecting dust. I’m not gonna buy games already own on Steam again just to play them on an handheld device, and I’d never buy a multi platform title on Switch since then I’d not be able to play on my desktop setup if I wanted to without having to pay for it again. Also free online, mods support and emulation without the hassle of jailbreaking the device.
Zivon the GPD Win 2 is half of that price, and if a company would release one of those things with an actually good production quality... I’d say yes. The value of my Steam library would easily make up for the difference in price with the Switch.
It's rlly funny for me, cuz at the end Riley said that it comes in WiFi-only.... Then y is there an SIM slot on 2:38 or somehrere there? But yea boi good review 👍
