Thomas Monticello 372 w/Moog Satellite tech talk and demo

Bob Weigel of www.sounddoctorin.com shows his latest acquisition. A lawn organ :-). The THomas 372 has a moog satellite in the lid. This one had a bad key spring that was causing bizarre interactions with notes going to wrong pitches. I'm still puzzling over why the CV's appeared consistent while pitches were off in the S+H. Perhaps the contact was intermittently opening allowing notes to properly be sampled? Look for upcoming comedy parody 'Organ on the lawn' inspired by this one. I simply have no room inside :-)

That’s some serious mad scientry there! Looks like Thomas Dolby’s workbench in that organ! No idea how that all makes sense to you. You could be a rocket surgeon. 🤔

I have a late model Thomas Eldorado 792, possibly one of the last manufactured in 1981, as the stop rail was re-designed for 1981. On my Thomas organ, I have the Thomas synthesizer, called the Band Master Polyphonic synthesizer as I love it. It has some great filters to create some really cool sounds.

Yes! There are certainly 3 models of the Satellite and I had one of these Thomas organs some years back and restored it. Learned the long way round about the Satellite though. Finally got it done but man... would have been great to know at that time there were 3 slightly different models.

PS note it would work ok below the note that the spring was hanging on. So not all notes just...all notes there and above :-)

Hey I just got one of these. Can I take the Moog synth board off the organ and use it to run other instruments through it.

i saved top section and keyboard- i plan to build a dual mono s/ sh1000 parts i have/ it's a moog satellite so sure if you set it up w/ proper power and merge ext. audio w/ vco out and trigger envelope

I'm looking for answers to the same question. I want to use it in the effects loop of a guitar amp. I have the 371 and I think I'm about to buy a 372 from a church. Anyway, how did you go..? Have you done anything with it..?

I hope that you are not keeping this Thomas organ outside as it needs to be inside. I wonder if the Moog Synthesizer could be removed to create a keyboard version by itself? I heard that it could be done with the Wurlitzer Orbit synthesizer 3. If you have any questions about this Thomas organ, please contact me. I would donate it to a church or a thrift store, but it should not remain outside.

It's covered but i am out of space and too many people had life devolving issues with cars and stuff and I couldn't get around to scrapping. The finish wasn't great and it's hard to find any home for something this big but I'm planning a frankensynth using the moog board and oscillators /dividers and some solo voicing maybe into a more compact box.

@@sounddoctorin Even covered up, the enviorement of the dampness can rust up the circuit boards and cause problems. I would suggest giving it to a thrift store or a church. I am sorry that I do not live in your area or I would pick it up from you. Please consider a church or a thrift store or maybe a friend's house or with a relative.

it came from a thrift store....nobody around here wants to store big stuff much. 40 buck...I got it for that purpose. No shortage of big organs for people that want them. I'm doing a song /video when I get a chance with it and dismantling to make a more compact moog which is WAY more valuable cuz it's compact awesomeness :-)
