I don't think people realize how powerful those blasts were, and how durable thanos is. The blasts were enough to destroy clusters of galaxies, based on the fact that thor and silver surfer can withstand supernovas and galaxy level attacks, got vaporized instantly. It was faster than the hakai technique

i feel the the comic book writers of today don't understand or even know Thor's true powers, for instance i'm pretty sure that in the classic Thor era he is able to use mjorlnir to teleport and also to time travel plus you never see him use the god blast or warriors madness in modern comics and also his abilities also allow him to create cosmic storms too.

Surprisingly Thanos is the one who sees the the bigger picture I guess he has seen the future or possible future with the powers he has he probably already knows what going happen or possible happen and Thor on the other hand hasn't got these powers or at least that's what seems and a warrior and champion and fights for midguard and others in the universe as Odin son and future King of Asgard the Lord of Lighting and Strom, and this story isn't as straightforward as it seems will Adam now in a newly role in the universe what of the Elders and will everybody remember at some point or will only some of the more powerful characters remember what happened?
