It would be lovely to meet your mom on your podcast - if I remember correctly you mentioned she taught you to knit. She must be very proud of where knitting has taken you and your beautiful makes.
It's amazing how parents-to-be give us so much warning about their upcoming babies, and we're still frantically gift knitting to the last possible second! Thanks for reminding me I've got one to finish quickly
Haha I just had the same omg! moment this morning for a friend due in July. Heading out to get yarn today! Thanks! Just found this channel and looking forward to more!
This has quickly become my favourite podcast - and after being very sick for a few days, I just came home crossing my fingers you'd uploaded. Thank you so much! Stoked to watch and knit along! 🤗🤗🤗
Hello ladies!! I have a twin brother, so it’s really neat to watch you all together. I also grew up in Kansas, albeit the opposite corner of the state. Love your projects so much. I’m a very experienced crocheter, but I just figured out how to knit. Would you all mind on one of your episodes recommending some beginner sweater patterns? That would be so awesome. Thanks for the great videos!
Hi! I definitely found it helpful to measure preblocked and blocked swatch both stitch and row gauge. Then you can calculate how much growth in length you will get and work backwards to figure out when to stop arms and body!
You influenced me to get my first skein of coast to coast yarn at the rose city yarn crawl in Portland this last weekend! I met Erin and told her she should watch your podcast, I know I enjoy it!
That is so sweet of you! We probably won’t be able to make Erin’s store opening, but hopefully we can meet her eventually! Hope you enjoy the yarn! The Portland Yarn Crawl always looks so fun! ☺️🤍
Glad you had fun at the knitting retreat. I feel the same about winter knits and just want to keep working on them. I’m currently knitting with cotton and bamboo though for the first time and really enjoying it. Look forward to catching you next time 😊
Thanks so much for sharing your makes and WIPS and the retreat experience. Rachel, I love your N O R D pullover, even if i dont love the crazy way the designer has of writing the name. It looks beautiful on you. Well done on the baby knits. I have some I need to start and need to get some energy behind that.
For the button hole worries, I would suggest some quiet time "embroidery" with the same yarn and making some blanket stitches around the holes or some satin stitch around the holes.
I love the chiefs yarn! The colors are off though. 😂 I was thinking during the superbowl I’d love to knit some chiefs socks. I believe all of the yarn from the fantasy coffeehouse is inspired from legends and lattes. Rachel, I know it’s not knitting related but I’d love if you talked a bit about being an art teacher. I’m going back to school for art education and I’d love to hear your experiences with teaching. 🙏
Just found your channel and have loved watching from your 2023 round up, through your goals and then catching up and can’t wait for your knit and chat! I am knitting the moby and both of you mentioned at different points in reference to different projects that you use cable needles to knit the crisscross mock cables and I would love to see how you do that, I can’t even conceptualize how you would use one! Thanks for all the time you give us! Love your styles, yarn choices and commentary!
Thank you for knitting with us! That is so kind of you to say, and we appreciate you wanting to support our channel! We have never looked into a wishlist on ravelry, but we’ll need to do that soon! ☺️🤍
Of course our can still join our cumulus mini KAL, Rachel 😊 the link to our discord group is in my instagram bio! I really love both of your sweaters this episode especially - the judy sweater is one of my all time favorites and the nord pullover had been in my 2022 plans (which were more like a wishlist than actually achievable plans tbh haha), seeing your version really makes me want to make it again! 🧶 Jessica, seeing your Coast to Coast order come in makes me even more excited for mine to finally arrive hopefully soon 🤞🏼🤎☕️
Eee okay I would LOVE to join! I can cast on this weekend! 🤗 it has been so inspiring! I can’t wait to join you! I hadn’t gotten my order in either when she brought them over and I feel like I checked the tracking every hour till it came 😅 it was so worth the wait!☕️💛
There was actually a quilting retreat taking place at the same location as our knitting retreat! They looked like they were having a great time! They were also super nice and let us look around a bit at all their beautiful pieces!!
Just went to Yarn Barn on Sunday! Kicked off project Rebuild My Stash! Your haul was wonderful 🧶 The silence for the Red / Orange was killing me 😂 (I see red all the way) Can’t wait for the knit and chat!
Thank you for validating that it is red! 😂 Ahh we just missed each other!! I was there Saturday! I would love to know what you picked up! They had a beautiful Ozetta jacket I was tempted by but I’ve bought so much yarn recently we had to stick to just the yarn for a gift knit 😅
@@thosetwinswhoknit Oh my gosh, yes! The Ozetta was so pretty! I picked up a Ad Astra 4/2 Cotton cone (840 yards fo $20, can't argue that!), and 6 minis of Timeless Textiles Epic Wool, the colorways were too pretty to not pick up!
love the green colour of your jumper! I made some socks with twisted rib and continued to the toe decreases, and it looked like a bird foot. It was so funny😅
I see someone else asked this too - I was wondering if you have other siblings? All your knits (and recent sewing projects!) are so beautiful. Truly is such a treat to see your FOs - I look forward to every podcast (have been here since your 1st episode)! 😊
Thank you! That is so kind of you to say! We don’t have any other siblings, just us! Our parents wanted two kids, so while they weren’t really planning on having twins, it worked out well! ☺️
Once I bought a cashmere sweater at Hudson Bay, a department store here in Canada, I thought it was oatmeal beige, and I got home, and threw it on the counter, forgot about it, then saw it and was like, “what is that? “ , as it was totally lavender, and I picked it up, and yes, it was my “oatmeal” cashmere sweater. So there must be something about lighting and mauve, and beiges.
Another inspiring post. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous knits and sewn garments. You're both so talented. I feel the same way about shawls. I enjoy knitting them, but I never wear them. Lately I've been tempted to make one again. There's a gorgeous one by Fiber Tales, the Humlebi Shawl, that I'm looking at.
Someone else already mentioned it and I agree that I would call Jessica's buttons toggle buttons. I just finished a cardigan for my nephew using them and was also worried about how they would work in practicality. What I found is that the more traditional way to use toggle buttons is to sew the button at the end of a crochet chain and to also crochet a toggle on the other button band instead of making buttonholes. I didn't like that look too much and I had already made buttonholes so something that really helped was sewing them on with a shank to lift them away from the fabric a bit. Roxanne Richardson has a great tutorial for that.
This was my first time using toggle buttons, so it was definitely a little different than what I’m normally used to! I’ll look up that tutorial! Thank you for the suggestion!
This is my favorite episode! Can I ask how many skein you used of Cumbria fingering for nord pullover? I want to knit both of what you’re wearing here!! Really inspiring.
I just finished Fiber Tales Perikon test knit using the Purl SoHo Good Wool in the colorway Teal Twilight and their Tussock mohair in the colorway Nichol Blue! This was my first time using their yarn and I love it!🥰 I am currently knitting Lene Holme Samsøe’s Cara sweater with Fiber tales medium grey Gotland yarn. It has taken a lot of focus and longer than I expected but I am really loving it! It is the perfect Irish Fisherman’s sweater but in a lighter weight perfect for our midwestern winters!😂 The Morel sweater has been on my list for a long time!
@@thosetwinswhoknit Yeah I think I underestimated how much focus..😅 I am almost done with the yoke now and I finally have all but one of the patterns completely memorized which makes it much easier!
I call the boat buttons “toggles” but I’m not sure if that’s the correct name for them. Funny, I’m knitting a baby gift while I’m watching your podcast. I’m just free styling a raglan with some colorwork. This baby is due in July so I’m good on timing I see red
I enjoyed watching your podcast. I always look forward to e next one. I was wondering if you can share a little bit of your personal life…ie..what kind of work do you ladies do. Any other siblings.etc…. Thanks
I love the cloud sweater and desperately wanted to make it too, but I have had it off the needles for like 3 weeks and its already too warm to wear it here in NYC! :( I totally that you're sad about chunky knitting season ending!
I’m curious to know how your socks made from the coast to coast yarn wears. I noticed they don’t seem to have any nylon in them except for the cashmere one. You seem to love them for socks and they’re yarns are so beautiful, so I’m hoping they are also durable. Or do you do something to strengthen the areas on your socks that wear harder than other areas? Love your podcast!
Hi! Thank you so much! We mostly have used the “Classic Sock” base which does contain nylon. To be honest, we are probably not the best source to confirm durability because we try to be super gentle with our knit socks. We don’t tend to wear them all day everyday, and stick to shoes that don’t rub them too much, and also always hand wash/air dry. We’d definitely be curious to hear how someone who’s a little rougher with their socks finds them, though!
Rachel, can you please tell me the color way of the four skeins you bought from purl Soho? Love your podcast, and all your beautiful knitting! Thank you!
Your knits are lovely. Just a question. In Australia and aran weight yarn is a 10 ply and worsted weight yarn is 12 ply. Is this different in America as I've heard a few podcasters seem to refer to aran as being heavier than worsted?
I’ve heard the terms can definitely vary depending on your location, but I’ve always considered them pretty similar with Aran yarn being slightly thicker. I usually think of worsted weight as knit on US 7-9 needles and Aran weight as knit on US 8-10, but I’m also a super tight knitter, so take that with a grain of salt! 😅 ~Jess
I’m not an expert at baby knits, but I think it might be okay for something that doesn’t touch their skin, like a jacket, but I wouldn’t necessarily use it for a sweater since it might be a little rough for super sensitive skin!
Hello! We typically either order it directly from their website, or a shop in the US that carries it like Wool and Company or La Mercerie. Hopefully one day a shop close to us will carry it so we can see the colors in person! 💕
Check out a Norwegian Knitter. She loves baby knits and makes cute practical clothes for newborns + and they are quick easy and cute. You might get some great ideas.
Q. For the knit and chat, What are some of your favorite yarn lines/companies for largely all natural yarns? Especially ones who have a wide range of colors. I find rust and warm dark browns are so hard to find!
I really enjoy your podcast! Would you tell me again the name of the sweater you’re talking about - I think it was min 42? I couldn’t understand the name of the sweater neither of the designer right. Thank you so much ❤ @knit.knit_nele
