I feel exactly 💯 what she talked about not wanting to pay the prices for makeup but yet they don't fuss on the expense of the dress etc...i have actually had makeup and hair artist friends quit bcuz they get discouraged over ppl not wanting to pay..

I know it’s so sad!! It’s made me question it at times as well. I wish that people valued hair and makeup as much as they did other vendors!

Just worked a wedding today and usually am using an extra 15 mins for every other person (75mins sometimes!) and today it went exactly as i hoped. We waited a bit for the guests to show up past start time, I ran ahead even though I forgot all my mixing paletes my coworker lend me one 🥰 I just rewashed it. Still ahead of time! Then I did end up being the last person there as planned but had two Juniors makers thrown on me because I was told they paid for them at the salon so I just did it and wish I could be that available more often 😊(contacted my boss after they didn't pay for that!! but we got the payment with card on file per agreement( your videos help me sm, watched this n a couple clips laat night n this morning 🙌☺️ thank you Julie and Malorie!

Interesting hearing how strongly you both feel about tips being business owners. (no shade AT ALL, just interesting to hear your perspectives) I ALWAYS tip 20% just because of tipping culture here in the US, but I feel like people who own their own service business - especially when writing a contract and using and invoice for the service - should just set their prices as needed and then not expect the full 20% gratuity. Then, any amount of gratuity after setting the desired prices is just a token of appreciation. But definitely 20% for people who are not in control of their pay and working for someone else. But I am older and I can see tipping culture has changed a lot in recent years, especially more so after covid when more people are working for themselves.

Hey no offense taken at all! Everyone has their own viewpoints on this. It also does differ a lot from consumers to business owners as well. I feel like it's probably something people as a whole will never see eye to eye on because of our backgrounds or experience which is perfectly fine :)

mallory was so right about how ppl pay the deposit fee so far in advanced that they almost forget so charging an on site fee makes sense bc it’s technically girl math 🤣

Yes it is super accurate!!! I’ve definitely thought about incorporating this!

I have been loving this podcast! I was wondering how do you decide on what to do for bridesmaid makeup since it’s a cheaper service, do you still let them choose what kind of makeup look they want? Or do you have a couple different looks you rotate through? Like what if they choose a look that’s more time consuming? Thanks!!

Hi thanks so much!! For bridesmaids I still let them choose:) normally their looks don’t get too wild so I’ve never had an issue with this personally. If the bride is paying for everyone though, sometimes they will choose the look for them.

This is so interesting. Is tipping a common thing in the USA? I feel like where I'm from, not necessarily where I currently live, the culture is more in the lines of the price is what it should be and only tip if you're extremely satisfied with the service provided.

Yes it’s extremely common! I have heard that about other countries or some even get offended if someone does offer to tip.

Now I'm on to listening to the podcasts. lol Have you ever had someone who said your prices are too high and offered them to put them on a waitlist for a model call? That way they know, if they want it for an occasion, they have to pay. If they want it for free, they can't pick the day or the look. You demonstrate your value but offer flexibility.

I hope you are enjoying the podcasts! That's an interesting idea! To me, I'd rather offer model calls to those that have paid full price at one time or supported my business as opposed to those that want it "cheaper".

@@julieruby I could totally see that. Then it becomes a fun reward for loyal customers. I like that too.
