I am 59 now. When I was in high school I went to my friends house for a Super Bowl party and while I was there, an acquaintance put LSD in a beer that I was drinking. I only remember drinking the beer and then I remember being home and staring at my eye in the bathroom mirror. I have zero recollection of what happened to me. I found out later that I drank a gallon of milk and ate a bunch of bananas. I could have easily died because I have no idea how I got home and anything could have happened to me. I think what these guys took was probably more powerful than what I consumed unknowingly. Don’t go to parties where there are people taking drugs. You could end up in a casket.

I respect Dr. Grande's analysis but I am wondering, too, if they were given something unnknowingly or if they were used as guinea pigs, never thinking it would result in death. Whatever happened there, I don't think the full truth will ever be told by Jordan Willis. The witnesses are deceased so he can slant the story any way he wants to take the heat off himself. Too many unanswered questions. Even if these guys took the drugs willingly, the source of the drugs needs to be found.

i’m four years sober from cocaine and alcohol, and Dr. grande, hit the nail on the head at the end about substance addiction. I felt lost and hopeless in life not knowing what I was gonna do and not feeling I had anything else to give so I turned to alcohol and later cocaine, and those were the two things that soothe my misery of existence. But since I became sober, I became self-employed, doing what I love, and that has given me purpose that I didn’t think I could have, and that’s something better than alcohol or cocaine could ever give me!

i do not understand taking a drug that knocks you flat out for 12 hours. you have missed 12 hours out of your life. alcohol, pot, or psychedelics don't do that. cocaine doesn't do that. only opioids. what is the attraction? do you have great dreams or feel good while you sleep? of course guys like cosby would use it on a victim to have sex the victim wouldn't remember, but thats a very different circumstance.

That’s what I’m saying! Esp since the dude (Jordan) is a successful scientist/chemist and according to one of the victim’s brothers, he’s known within their community as _THE_ Chemist for his hobby of synthesizing all kinds of drugs for recreational use, both for himself and others. So assuming he is in fact an opioid user, he probably had a higher tolerance than even other regular opioid users since he would’ve most likely had his own personal stash that he would’ve been able to customize and make much stronger/higher potency than street level fent, and my guess is that’s what the 3 friends may have dipped into, either knowingly or not (like for instance, it’s possible they snuck some after Jordan passed out, perhaps not realizing just how strong it was). Tragic all around, regardless of what actually happened tho.

All generations - play dumb games,, win dumb prizes... It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure drugs are dangerous but drug war propaganda has done more harm than anything else besides the CIA... It doesn't make sense to do cocaine these days because the cartels ARE some sleazy individuals and they think they put enough fentanyl in to make the cocaine more addictive, but they're so stupid they don't bother to mix it well and there's inevitably lumps that contain large amounts of fentanyl... If we didn't have the idiocy of prohibition keeping all these substances under the table, maybe we could get a handle on this problem....

My Mom has tinnitus and used to have a hard time sleeping. Last month, she got these headphones from Amazon made for sleeping. It's like a cozy headband with flat earphones connected on the ear part that you can't feel. So when you roll over you don't notice they are there! She connects it to her Bluetooth and listens to relaxing sounds so she can sleep. I figured I would let you know, bc I know how annoying tinnitus is and these headphones seem to work great for her and I think she only spent like $15 on them. When I was in rehab for alcohol I had a lot of time to think. I knew if I continued to drink I would end up in jail, the nut house or the morgue. The truth is, if I could have kept drinking and been found dead in a day, week, year with people saying I didn't know she was still drinking I would have kept on drinking. I knew myself well enough to know that I would end up in jail or the nut house before I ended up in the morgue. I was raised Catholic so suicide wasn't an option. Neither the jail nor the nut house were acceptable either so I had to get sober. It took a lot of time and counseling to find out why I had preferred the morgue.

First, love your channel Dr. Grande. This is exactly what I said when it first happened, "stoned in the snow" that is the answer. Family members want to accuse and point fingers at others because that is what codependent relatives of addicts do, they protect the addict and blame everyone else. The guests were watching the game, partaking in legal and illegal activities, they probably were so out of it they thought they were going out front to their cars and instead went to the back in confusion. Now as far as blaming the homeowner for not seeing and knowing... he was stoned too! Later, it makes sense to me because during a snow storm we close all the drapes, turn up the heat, open the cabinets for the pipes, put on TV and hunker down. We don't go looking in the back yard or wondering about the cars in the street... The homeowner was probably too stoned to let the dog out. Days go by, I don't answer the door to people I don't know, I check the camera and if I'm not dressed, and I don't want to socialize, I ignore the doorbell. Am I the only one that does that? People need to call first. The cops show up, yes I will answer that door! I feel that they were all druggies and had no idea the consequences of the fentanyl, like so many others that have met the same demise, and family members will need to come to terms with that fact so they can have peace.

I remember seeing this in my news feed the day it was originally reported on, the causes of death had yet to be determined. I had thought to myself, "sounds like fentanyl". I had a cousin who had been both a heroin addict and an alcoholic. After 15+ years of battling his addiction with 3 tries at half-way counseling/lockup he took his life with fentanyl just over 3 years ago. He had the discipline to go to the gym daily and exercise for 2 hrs (he was in incredible shape, physically) but not to stay clean. The path of destruction that opioids, either natural or synthetic, are cutting through westernized nations is horrific. It's not just the loss of life but the scars that it's inflicting on the loved ones left alone, wondering "why?" that are so tragic. Thank you Doctor for your thoughtful and well meaning video.

Here's the thing. Drug use is different from drug addiction. These people were probably recreational drug users who were just having a good time at a party. Like most recreational drug users, these people were contributing members of society. Our society needs to accept that many doctors, teachers, insert respected profession here, use drugs recreationally. This is not an immoral or uncommon pastime but one that has been with humanity almost as long as we have been human. This was almost certainly a case where drug prohibition caused these men's deaths because with regulation comes safety for everyone involved in the drug trade from producers to users. These men were probably not aware they were consuming fentanyl unless they were purposefully speedballing, but even if they were aware, overconsumption can still happen. Overdose mixed with the cold temperatures caused these deaths, and no one should be held criminally liable.
@MimiRAM0NE
@MimiRAM0NE 5 месяцев назад
If regulation leads to safety for everyone, why do people still die using prescribed medication?
@aeropsia
@aeropsia 5 месяцев назад
@MimiRAM0NE like i said, "overconsumption can still happen," but overall, the entire system is safer when legal and regulated because the drugs aren't tainted. Since they are readily available from regulated distributors who have to track where everything is coming from and there has to be quality control, things are safer. People will still make mistakes. People still drink themselves to death, whether from overdose, hypothermia, or some other accident, but the majority of people who use alcohol do so responsibly. As a society, we don't have a problem understanding this. We have an analog with what happened during alcohol prohibition where people were making bathtub gin that was actually not consumable, or the government was poisoning industrial alcohol to keep people from drinking it and these things killed a significant amount of the population. Now that liquor is legal, when you go to the store and buy a bottle of gin, you know it's ethanol. Knowing exactly what you're consuming adds more safety.

If you need to use illegal drugs to have a good time, you would be much better off spending your time and money on professional counselling than on committing criminal acts.
@aeropsia
@aeropsia 5 месяцев назад
@irenerosenberg3609 No. If you want to use any drug when you are relaxing and having a good time, there is nothing necessarily wrong with it or you. If you are a person who is responsible and contributes to society in a positive way, the use of drugs does not automatically mean you need therapy. In these situations, there is no addictive or maladaptive behavior associated with drug use. And going back to prohibition, acts are only considered criminal until they are legalized. Maybe you think everyone who goes to a football game or dinner and has a few beers would be better off spending that time and money on therapy. That doesn't sound like a world most of us would want to live in, but if it's how you want to spend your time and money, then go for it. Drug prohibition creates a problem in our society and then blames us for it.

I've tried listening to some podcasts like crime and wine or something. But the format isn't like yours. There is excessive and pointless chat and they don't stick to the facts. (in my opinion). You stick to the facts and you also make some what I guess you could call puns and jokes which are easy to understand and, having what is described as a dry sense of humour, your jokes amuse me and make me laugh.. Btw, my 15 yr old son is now a huge fan of yours and watches your videos on the bus to school. He said he's learnt more from watchhing your analyses than he has from 3 years of high school (lol). He says you should get a T.V. show and you'd be as famous as Dr Phil. (I know you're personally not a huge fan of his). Sending thanks and hugs from Down Under.

I have a sleep disorder, adhd and ptsd. Depression. Anxiety. I can safely tell you that I wouldn’t notice cars on my street or a dead body in my back yard. I have a doggy door. I also don’t get out of bed to answer the door.

Shoutout to those 60 and above: doing dope now is not fun like it was when we were young and stupid. It's all so serious now and the majority of people involved in it are such heartless creeps. There was still a degree of naivete and honesty when we were doing dope but that's all gone now. Too many bad people involved and there is no casual recreational drug use like there was when we were teens and 20s.

Agreed. Some may be more pre-disposed to it than others but every single person is capable of falling into it.

No. Only criminals become addicts. You must first break the law, and use a drug illegally, to become an addict.

Like 99% of the case presented here, the victims are responsible for their own deaths. The pattern is not paying attention to what should be clearly dangerous, or just plain bad judgement. Three at one time is a bit unusual.

Yeah, people talking about how “it wasn’t even *that* cold!” Well, if you sit out there all night you could get *hypothermia*. People talking like they were blocks of ice was odd.

I almost completely disagree with your assertion that "users know the risks" Most do not. They tend to know it after they are addicted, but they do not know the first time or the first few times. Most people are extremely bad at assessing risk of any kind.

i think users know the risks, but don't believe it'll happen to them. Then after surviving the first hit, don't care anymore 💫
@tarstarkusz

@@diffrntlytwistd7442 I mostly agree with you. I would say though that people's ability to assess risk is very poor. That is why they think it won't happen.

Addiction is a beast. My ex husband lost everything to it, including his life. It destroyed him, but I didn’t go in that direction thank goodness. He was a good man who chose alcohol over everything.

As a retired 30 year law enforcement officer, I can understand how the guy's story makes sense. I have seen it all during my 30 year career, and many people who drink alcohol or do drugs often live differently than a lot of us who don't. He may have been hung over for two days, which means you get up and go to the bathroom, watch some tv in bed, fix a sandwich, and sleep. He could have kept the curtains closed since he was hung over. I personally have a fan running year round for the noise when I sleep. If he looked out the front door and saw the cars, he may have thought the guys called a ride to pick them up since they had been drinking. It doesn't make sense that he knew the guys were in the back yard and he just ignored it and went back to bed. Having said all of that, law enforcement should ALWAYS investigate a death as a homicide until there is no evidence to believe it is a homicide, which takes time, at the very least until after the autopsy is completed.

Yep- you know it! Could have thought they were passed out in another room or took off with someone to keep the party going would be a reasonable thought while in that state. If I had enough and was nodding out, I wouldn't worry too much about my grown up drug friends who were going to do whatever they want anyway

Could it be the host of the party, may have survived because he was an addict so had a higher tolerance? Plus he passed out indoors.
