When I was 7/8 years old I heard my brother listening to music but my parents said I was too young for it. I remember waking up early on a Saturday morning to sneak into our living room and watch MTV before anyone realized and could stop me, getting to the channel just as this song started. I didn't even have time to sit down, I just stood there awestruck until the song ended then waited all morning hoping they would play it again. 20 years later and it's still giving me chills.
One day the dreamers died within us When all our answers never came We hid the truth beneath our skin but Our shadows never looked the same A ghost is all that's left Of everything we swore we never would forget We tried to bleed the sickness But we drained our hearts instead We are, we are the dead And when we couldn't stop the bleeding We held our hearts over the flame We couldn't help but call it treason And after that we couldn't fill our frames After that our shadows never looked the same A ghost is all that's left Of everything we swore we never would forget We tried to bleed the sickness But we drained our hearts instead We are, we are the dead In summers past, we'd challenge fate With higher pitch and perfect aim And standing fast, we'd radiate A light we loved but never named But the answers never came Our shadows never looked the same A ghost is all that's left (We are the ones who lost our faith) Of everything we swore we never would forget (Can we be saved?) We tried to bleed the sickness But we drained our hearts instead We are, we are the dead (We are the ones who lost our faith) A ghost of everything we thought but never said (Can we be saved?) We tried to bleed the sickness But we drained our hearts instead We are the ones who lost our faith We dug ourselves an early grave We are the dead, can we be saved?
Funny thing is I kept remembering this song from madden 04 but only seemed to remember the refrain in the last chorus, so I kept searching for “we are the dead” Took years, but i’m here. I feel like i’m home.
I saw the lyrics of this song in a graffiti in my city (Guimarães - Portugal) and it caught my eye. So I decided to take a picture and look it up. Totally worth it.
@@Andrew-zt3bf Lol. Im gonna say he had access to emerald tablets from a young age. Talking to him many times about the occult and politics he just had access to good authors and materials. Plus just the want to learn about these things at that age is huge.
every song off this album reminds me of the day it was released and i skated down to tower records and picked up this cd.. jeeeez just saying things like tower records, or CD's makes me feel old and miss my youth!
I've been a casual fan of Thrice since the mid-2000s but I keep coming back to them. I get to see them live for the first time ever in September so my over-the-hill ass is super stoked though I don't know how much of their early stuff they'll play. Their new stuff is super rad, though, so I'd alright hearing nothing but that as well. Such a good band, though; I love how much they've evolved over the years.
Man.....The feels and memories with this song both make me sad but give me hope for the future that everything will work out ok.......so many good times playing Madden 2004 with this song >:3
Co-worker gave me this burned CD in early 2000’s in Springfield MO @ some call center deal we worked at. Had no idea who these guys were but am forever grateful and still have that burned CD.
Saw Thrice live in Orlando and Tampa, hands down one of the most amazing bands to see live in my life behind Tool which if you have been to a Tool concert is saying a hell of a lot. They know how to get the crowd into each and every song. Teppei is a God on the lead his solos are masterful.
Ahhh hahahaha the memories that this brings back!!! Who else listened to this shit non-stop in what, 2003, 2004? And out of those, who else was just starting high school at the time??
I remember buying this album back when I was a Freshman in college. I was 18 or 19 in those days, and these guys weren't that much older than me--maybe 4 or 5 tops (except for the drummer, who was definitely someone's older brother, because he's another 4 or 5 years older than the rest of the guys. It's definitely making feel a bit of nostalgia looking at the way those guys looked in the video, because I was exactly the type of guy who would've fit in with those guys. Since then I've put on a few lbs and I grew out both my beard and my hair, so now I look more at home at a Ren-Fest than Ozzfest. I just had my 20 year High School reunion, but what sucks is that I won't ever get to find out what happened to the folks I met that first year of college, when I was living in the dorms. I kept up with a few of them, as Facebook became a thing, but the folks who weren't on it when it was the cool new thing to sign up for, almost none of them got onto it later, and if they did I never came across them on there. It's a bummer, because my roommate Paul was the shit, and we did all kinds of stupid shit back in the day, but he was a weirdo about being a luddite and not spending time online interacting with people, and he changed up his phone number so many times, that I lost touch with him like 5 seconds after he transferred our Junior year.
I played a decent bit of madden 04 and it introduced me to Avenged, Blink, Gob, etc but I don't remember this song from it. I got into thrice years later and when I was showing them to my brother I put this song on first cause its awesome and he says "oh yeah this song" and tells me it was in the game
guise. I've seen them 5 times in the past 5 years. They are much better than you can even imagine. The fact that you are here, reading this comment, means that they must mean something to you. Just feel the passion in their music, your soul. That's all that's left to do
I recently bought Madden 17...hadn't played since Madden 04. I can definitely say the soundtrack for these games used to be a lot better than what they are now.
One of my favorite songs of all time. THE song that got me in to post hardcore and screamo... yet I believe if I've ever seen this video it was only once or twice back in the day. Discovered this song on Loveline.
Aaah the good ol’ times when this was fresh and new, and thrice was thrown in the emo kids pot. Nostalgia. Unlike many of the bands of those years, thrice are like wine, got better through time. I still love the early stuff but their career was an artistic escalator, you can’t compare this catchy pop-punk song with the deep poignancy of the latter albums.
Dustin definitely sounds a lot different in his vocals now than he did back when this song was released. His voice appears to sound deeper in Thrice's latest albums, including "To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere".
