Vheissu is still one of the greatest albums front to back I’ve ever heard. I was hurting really bad when this album dropped and it always reminds me how far I’ve come and how glad I am I’m still here. I hope everyone is doing ok out there
Probably the most beautiful, dark, tear jerking, masterpiece of all time wish thrice did more stuff like this. Of dust and nations is great as well by them.
@@capedeath4194 Have you kept up with all their albums? They definitely have 'more stuff like this' for you! I recommend Hurricane, Burn the Fleet .. and if you really want a heart-breaking tear-jerker, try The Whaler
When my daughter (now 8) was an infant, she had colic and screamed pretty much from 7pm until 11 if we were lucky, or 3 if we weren't. Thrice/red sky saved us while we were in the car. It was played on a continuous loop, and it worked. So many thank yous for this song!
My best acid trip ever ended up being an all nighter by myself, playing “Glover” on N64 volume muted, while listening to this album on vinyl for 12 straight hours of absolute bliss. Man I want to go back there.
This classic is 15 years old now. To put it in to perspective, imagine being in 2005 and listening to Smells Like Teen Spirit and thinking how old that song was. Time is the enemy.
OMG. Yes. Walking around in a cemetery in 11th grade 2005 with my now ex husband listening to Nirvana, Come as you are, looking for his grandfather's grave stone. Fast forward, husband goes to Iraq when we're married in 2008, tells me to listen to this song because he listens to this album while out and thinks of me. I never saw him again.. since the day I took him to the air port to go back to Iraq. I came here to listen and think about him. Brought back even more memories. Things hurt a little less after the amount of time that passes, but the songs are timeless.
THE WIND'S A CHEATING WIFE, HER TONGUE A THIRSTY KNIFE. AND SHE CAN TAKE YOUR LIFE WITH ONE GOOD KISS... THRICE IS EPICLY AWESOME AS A FACT!! THEY HAVE CLEVER LYRICS AND LOVELY MELODY IN EVERY SONG. BEEN A FAN SINCE 2004 - STILL A FAN TODAY.
On the eve of finally getting to see Thrice headline the UK, I can't get over how perfect this band are. Their back catalogue is so eclectic. There is not one emotion they fail to perfectly evoke.
Im amazed by the fact that Thrice were the kind of music i used to listen when i was in elementary school. Now im 23 and im finishing my university studies and still listening to this amazing song by such a great band.
"Red Sky" I know what lies beneath, I've seen the flash of teeth. Conspiring with the reef to sink our ship. The wind's a cheating wife, her tongue a thirsty knife. And she could take your life with one good kiss. Can you see the sky turn red? As morning's light breaks over me, Know tonight we'll make our bed at the bottom of the sea. I know the ocean speaks, I've heard her call to me. And smiling in my dreams she whispers this (The stars retreat behind their veil. The clouds are clinging to your sail. The storm is coming can you see?) Can you see the sky turn red? As morning's light breaks over me, Know tonight we'll make our bed at the bottom of the sea. Look and see the sky turn red. Like blood it covers over me. And soon the sea shall give up her dead. We'll raise an empire from the bottom of the sea
They really should have released this version as an official audio track. Dustin singing "Can you see the sky turn red" at the end differs from the album version and I love this one so much more because of the different ending.
The first verse is one of the most poetic examples of Dustin's lyrical genius. "The flash of teeth" is stormy waters. The rough white caps of aggressive waves threatening to "bite" vulnerable sailors. "The winds a cheating wife." While the wind supports sailors by moving the ship, it can "cheat" on them in a storm with its power and cause the ship to wreck. Sometimes his lyrics can be slightly unwieldy (though rarely) and sometimes the themes in a song may not be completely cohesive. But on the whole, Dustin Kensrue is a wealth of incredibly lyrical ideas and poetics
didn't realize the impact of the implicit array of ideas originating from the dynamic of how you are explaining not only the juxtaposition of wind being a cheating wife with the killing but also of how she is faithful as well, ....errr well once was
All thrices work is profound. I've been a fan for 17 years and every album has been different and profound. I look forward to seeing them live at aftershock. They are why I bought tickets!
They still are! Their sound has changed significantly since the early days but they continue to be one of the most diverse yet consistent bands I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. I fucking love these guys, can't wait to see them for the Illusion of Safety anniversary show in December!
I especially like the lines: The winds a cheating wife, her tongue a thirsty knife and she could take your life with one good kiss It's so poetic and full of imagery.
i cannot uynderstand how i feel when the last part came off. it' s like been in an empty universe where there is just me and this song on background sorrounding. WHen the solo at the end kicks off , my dreams starts brighting all over and i fluttuate through them.
I agree! I just saw them last night at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA. It was amazing! I'm glad I got to see them off and thank them for their amazing music. What a treat!
Why do I stumble across my old comments? 2021, going on 2022. Discovered a beautiful cover of this song by Lea Moonchild: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uJMc8NXNDLA.html
Saw them in concert a couple months ago... and they are just so amazing live. Some bands sound HORRIBLE live... nothing like their studio albums... but Thrice, wow. They did such an amazing job.
